    It's nice to see the original mind reading chicken in action. Now she will live on forever. Honestly, although she was 'just a chicken' for me seeing her again like this was a bit emotional. RIP Curry.Congrats Jo for fooling two of the best magicians in the world!

    Okay, it is great, great, really, but Alyson's totally GENUINE blunt reaction at 3:51 is what made her the BEST host of this show. She was the PERFECT (adorable, beautiful, funny, spontaneously clever...etc) but still EVERYMAN character to host this show. :D

    It's long been thought that birds have some ability to sense magnetism (in order to align themselves with the Earth's magnetic field and navigate as they fly), now domestic chickens have long since ceased traveling much of anywhere but it probably has not been long enough on the evolutionary timeline for them to lose this ability entirely. So knowing this, my theory is that the pen had a magnetic substance, some kind of fine metal powder like you see in ferrofluid toys, applied to the tip which rubbed off with the first application of ink, and that is what attracted Curry to that particular page. It's an excellent trick and I enjoyed every minute of it, and of course I could be wrong here, but that's my 2 cents. Well done, and knowing the lifespan of chickens and that this video was posted 6 years ago, Curry is most likely, sadly, no longer with us so God rest your wonderful bird and thanks for the performance.
    Edit: second theory, the burning feather bit is a clue, it could be temperature the chicken was following, a chemical on the pen that briefly heats up when exposed to air or reacting with the ink, drawing Curry to the warm spot.

      or the repellent odor fades away with time and the other pieces of paper had the scent until they dried as well. This would explain why penn and teller couldn’t smell it, the others had dried too.

    My only thought is that the chicken can pick up on the "drying time" of the ink on the paper. If there are no funny smells with the marker or any extra inking on the first paper, it's maybe a drynesss comparison.
    Or, perhaps, the chicken picked up the woman's natural scent a bit longer for the first one aince that was the most time spent on one card.

  • @uncannysnake

    Now, I know one thing: The weakest point of almost every magician is that they don't change their basic-method when performing variations of a trick. It is even harder with training an animal.
    Additionally, many "perfect" their trick in a very late stage when they already perform it. This almost inevitably leads to the versions which still have flaws being "somewhere" to be watched over and over again and the different versions and variations to be compared.
    So, in this case it is your behind the scenes video with the 12 mal 7, which I presume is an earlier version as well.
    These things stand out about it:
    1. The stand has NOTHING behind the back
    2. You place the chicken on a different place than in the penn and teller video
    3. You don't move at all after you placed the chicken
    4. This was implied on point 2. and 3., but to make it clear, you already confirmed that you have no influence over where the chicken moves, you don't need to know the answer beforehand for it to work
    5. And the most important point: The 84 one looks DIFFERENT than the others, it is first the only option that is left for the method and second this, because you would not change the method, means there is some VISUAL input for the chicken
    The penn and teller one also has the holders for the papers exchangable, so they are part of the stand, unlike in the first trick where it was just duct tape.
    Now, having something look different is definitely a flaw, and the fact that you had it in an earlier version and removed in later only makes the argument stronger that the input is indeed visual. Chickens see more colours and can react to all kinds of preparation of cards (you forced the first card to be selected, if this was just misdirection and it is just exactly the same as the other cards I am just done and you are amazing), which one you chose is up to you and I don't think I need to go into as this would be just a guessing game with those things you cannot see.
    EDIT: Additionally, you took part in Belgium's got talent once, where you quite nicely touched the blue colour with your elbow. Almost got me there. But this leads to one question. Did you indeed change your method? The touching can be done with scents more easily. But considering chickens have bad smell it is more likely a fluorescent paste (something white) or something like that to narrow it a bit down.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Місяць тому

      @@gilou006It’s not pure luck. A lot of magic is done this way, where you gamble on an effect working that might not. If it works, the effect is very strong. If it doesn’t, you have a back up which also works, but isn’t as strong. For example, I ask you to choose a number between 5 and 10. There’s a good chance you pick 7. If so, I can have you deal to the seventh card. If not, I deal, and rely on sleight of hand. I’m not saying that was done here, just that it is a possible approach.

      I tried the UV a lot but I don't know how these scientists declared chickens can see UV.

  • @phatp4206
    @phatp4206 Рік тому +1

    It's quite particular on the spot the chicken peck. Many theories suggest that the tip of pen was doused with UV ink prior to the trick. I believe the wood piece had something, either his scent or some food scent, cause he had to pick up the chicken before the chicken keeps pecking.
    Too bad the video is edited and not complete for us to analyze further.
