Thanks for doing this video- it sorted the issue with my daughters Lenovo 100e Chromebook. The connector didn't look unseated when i took the cover off, but I un-clipped it anyway and took the ribbon out and put it back in and clipped it back in. Put the cover back on and it started straight away. Nice.
I just tried to do this and I must have connected the ribbon wrong when I was plugging it back in and it shorted and melted part of the ribbon cable immediately while I was still holding the cable! :( Is there a way to ensure that the power is off before trying this fix? Edit: added that it melted while I was holding it, not after it was assembled.
Wow I haven't experienced that. You could take the bottom cover off and unplug the battery. I've probably replaced 400 of these screens and never had that happen.
I don't know how you do the voodoo that you do but keep on doing it. Still working in 2023. Like some of the others stated mine looked perfectly fine at first glance to the point where I said,"This guy is crazy, how could this cable come loose" . It was only after reading some of the comments that I went back in, pulled it out and reinserted. Sorry I doubted you 😢. I know it's an old post but thanks a million.

My chromebook just needed its battery reconnected. I have a 100e gen 2 school chromebook I got a week ago and didnt want to return cuz it was new. I figured it was the battery connector loose and watched half of this to see how you open it. The 100e 2nd gen opens from the bottom tho so dont go prying around the keyboard. Just pop off the cover on the bottom after removing the 9 screws
If it's your school Chromebook return it to your school and let their tech department fix it for you. this is for people that own their Chromebooks I guess or don't mind tearing into them.
I've discovered some models only boot up if the battery is unplugged. Otherwise, they refuse to respond at all. Replacing a dead battery with a fresh one helps, or just leave the battery out/disconnected and only use it on external power. The 100e *will not boot* with a dead battery connected.

Mine is a Lenovo 500e. Black screen. No charging light or any luck with the “restart” button combinations they tell us to try. I’ve tried plugging it in from both sides. No luck, but it makes kind of a whirring clicking noise when plugged into a charger. Could this possibly help fix my issue? My school is closed because of the virus and I need it for testing.
It sounds like you have a notebook computer rather than a Chromebook and the clicking noise could be a hard drive problem so you could be as simple as just replacing the hard drive and reloading windows.

I know this is an old video but we have a 11e, have you run across this with them? Ours was working fine and one day after sitting for a couple weeks the screen wont turn on. Says its charged. Ive tried the power button and refresh and it turns the screen super dark gray and then back to black. I dont want to take it apart if its not even going to be the same issue. This video is the closest ive found to what might be wrong
Puede que sea un problema de sobrecalentamiento, desmonta la placa y checa los pads térmicos del procesador, si ya están dañados cámbialos solo pads térmicos, no uses pasta ni nada, la placa de cobre no debe tener contacto con el procesador
Is there a different version of this case. The one I have is 2 years old and the keyboard side of cover comes off, so it does not have the ribbon cables as shown in this video.
I don't think I've seen this problem manifest itself in this way. Mine seem to charge regardless of weather or not that cable is connected. The CB's I have that don't charge have the faulty mobo issue that Lenovo is still denying was ever an issue. I'm trying to find out if there's a tiny fuse or resistor on the mobo that I can test or replace like there was on the Lenovo N21 & N22. I'd be satisfied if I could just find some definitive test points on the silly thing. Do you also have the disintegrating hinge issue where the brass grommets separate from the lid because the hinge tension is too high? That's a fun one. We ended up going with the dell 3100's but their hinge's are only marginally better. Randy thanks for the video and sharing a solution, I appreciate the efforts. You get a thumbs up sir.
Yes I have encountered the issue with the little brass rivets in the plastic popping out on the hinge. The only thing I found to help with that problem is loosening the hinge friction bolt, I guess is what you call it. and then I have replaced the keyboards on them just to get a good holding point when those rivet nuts pull out. Thanks for commenting I appreciate it. All of the CB's we have had has had these issues with the brass nuts except the old Samsung's
Friction bolt is what I'd call it. loosening them so they only just keep the screen in place is what I end up doing as well. If you're still using the N22's I found that if the keyboards aren't exhibiting the pinched cable issue you can hold that hinge tight if you take needle nose pliers grab the now freed brass nut and screw in the case screw to it cinching the hinge to the case and then break away the bad plastic on the keyboard where the nut was and it seems to hold together quite well. I wonder if the new Samsung's or Asus have these issues? Like your old Samsung our old Asus C200's and Toshiba's didn't.

Ok ok soo I got a personal chromebook and it won’t turn on and I look all though UA-cam how to fix it and nothing seems to work so what do I do and also I don’t have a light when I plug it in
@@strosty6029 if it's a 100e I would start with the loose cable issue in the video. If that doesn't work I have tried the other usbc port and sometimes (not very often) it will charge. Other than that it's either battery or main PCB. Sorry I can't be more help.
I would say it would be hard for you to mess it up however that possibility is always there. Just thinking I would guess probably the worst thing that would happen is you could accidentally cut the Wi-Fi tab off of the cable in the upper right side of the screen if you're not careful or if you flex the bezel too much while trying to remove it you could crack the bezel other than that it's really hard kind of hard to mess up.I've actually started just using my fingers instead of the spudger and trying to cut the tape It seems that if you work it with your fingers the tape will release better than using the spudger
There's always a way to fix but it may require you to buy additional parts just depends on if and what you could possibly break. If your having doubts in your ability to preform this procedure, you probably shouldn't try it. However if you look at the comments, most people state it was easy. Good luck!

I believe that is a P1 screw It may be a p01 you'll have to have a really small Phillips screwdriver to get to those screws. Be sure not to strip them or you'll be in a world of hurt.
At this point you most likely due for a new main board, the last I checked they were about 140.00 new and 90.00 used . They are not worth repairing when you can buy a new one of 190.00

If that doesn't work I'm not really sure what your next option would be.
Look very closely at the screen while you hold the power key down for 6 seconds, see if you can tell if there's any change in the screen a lot of times the backlight will go out and the LCD screen and then you just need a new LCD screen
Lenovo probably makes the worst chromebooks. They all have issues with the keyboards failing or bad connectors like this. I've had much better luck with the HP 11s.
Suelen tener muchos problemas de sobrecalentamiento, cambien los pads térmicos del procesador por unos de buena calidad, los que trae de fabrica no soportan bien el calentamiento y se dañan muy rápido
Use a PC search for chrombook restore utility. You will need a USB drive. Open the utility an make a recovery USB drive and do the recovery. That would be my first try. I have seen a lot of Asus chromebooks do that and they all had bad memory.
My son's Chromebook from school wouldn't power on or charge either. The ribbon wasn't unclipped and they all looked seated pretty well. I ended up unplugging the battery that connects in the middle with the multicolored wires coming out of it at a right angle (visible at 3:16). Plugged it back in and it fired right up and started charging when I plugged in the power cable.
If the ribbon cable doesn't fix it the next thing to try would be a battery I have also seen trying the opposite side for the charger port the other USB-C and I have also seen 45-watt chargers not work but when I put a 65 watt USB-C charger on it it made the Chromebook work
