    Says..."I'm the world's worst overblower"...plays a perfect overblow. Love all Brendan's videos and playing. Just got my hands on one of his Lucky 13's. Brilliant harp, beautifully made, a dream to play.

    Well done Brendan for actually putting some thought into the playing of our beautiful little instrument. I am of the thought that if it helps the average harpists like me then why not have it. Thank you Brendan for caring.

    I love how inventive Brenden is! Awesome man. I do also love that he calls his invention the Booster Bar, because the PowerBar energy supplement maker would have sued for sure! ;) I also think Over Bar would have been a cool name. Or, The Hurdle. (Bit more heady that name is though!)

    @Brenden, any chance some of your mods could come to Yonberg Typhoon harps? Also, thanks for all you do and for bringing things like this to EastTop harps! EastTop is affordable and really they make some good stuff.

    I had somewhat this same idea when I was setting up a new harp recently, I was optimizing the reed shape and I noticed that once I get the reed perfectly shaped, it was really easy to get the overblow if i just held the reed plate up to my mouth, but the second I put it on the comb with the other plate, that clear overdraw was gone. I was wondering if you could find some way to completely cut off the second reed while you’re using the first one so that overblows and overdraws could be improved, this video is exactly what I was wondering about and now I stumble across it a few days later, weird coincidence

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  3 роки тому

      Yes, cutting off the opposite reed is very helpful. I'm working on a new, better version - should be out this year.

    Dommage que l'on ai pas de sous-titre. je ne maîtrise pas l'anglais et pourtant je suis fan de ces nouvelles techniques. J'ai modifié 5 harmonicas (G, A, Bb, C, et D) pour les passer en Paddy Richter. C'est tellement chouette à jouer.

      Amazing advancement. The Elon Musk of harps. Will always pay homage to the purists, but as a player who realistically will never be able to master the Levy way, this gives me a shortcut to the fun. Thx!

    I'm amazed by this little device! But I'm afraid it may not be lefty friendly... Make my day and tell me it actually is! On a side note, I'm lefty for the grip and my mouth is "righty", that is, numbers on the coverplates upwards. Thanks!

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  6 років тому

      The Overblow Booster inserts inside the harp are lefty-friendly, because they work in the same way if the harp is around the other way. As for the Booster Bar, it would still work the same way, but be attached at the right and be operated by your left hand. I assume that should be good for lefties?

    Great idea Mr. Power. Does this work on the Suzuki Olive? I hear they are similar to Manji.

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  6 років тому

      No, because the covers don't have open backs. If you modify/flatten the rear of the covers they will work.

      The Special 20 is a nice harp alright, the first lipped-comb harp and a classic in its own humble way. I'll look into how it can be hacked to take the Overblow Booster :)

    How funny, I purchased the Suzuki Overdrive a decade ago and never understood what those holes were designed to do. I never used it cause it was so hard to play with out blocking those holes. I'll have to give it another try now that I understand it's use.

  • @trentmason009

    What would happen if you took a Power Bender, half valved it with Power Valves, then used this new gadget? No sound at all? Or, maybe all the dogs in the neighborhood would come 'round and praise you! Only one way to find out! Seriously though, I often wonder about combining gadgets. For example, what if I used the Overdrive harp with valves? Something tells me I may get no sound at all hehehe .... Actually owned an Overdrive harp and I'd constantly cover the holes by accident. The issue was that you couldn't hold the harp like we all tend to do. So, the invention was just in need of a tweak! Oh, to be in Powers' mind for a day, just to think about harmonicas in a new light!!!

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  6 років тому

      Hi Trent, you can't overblow with a valved or half-valved harmonica. PowerBender un-valved will work with the Overblow Booster, - it's simpler to make/fit actually, because you need only one insert part on the blow reedplate. That's coming soon...

    The suzuki overdrive is a disastorous harmonica

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  6 років тому +1

      I don't agree! It's actually a very clever, innovative harmonica, and well made. However it is fiddly to use and has some drawbacks (such as not being able to get overblows in normal play).

    • @18Yoav
      @18Yoav 6 років тому

      its clever in the sense that you can use it as a tool to hear what an overblow sounds like and yes its very well made(quality). but its more expensive than a regular harmonica, and you need to unlearn how to properly hold a harmonica so you dont block holes. its drawbacks outweigh its benifits in mho...

    You Pay 30 pounds for small pieces of plastic. I thought I was getting at least a harmonica with it and you get a few pieces of plastic. This isn't amazing . It is wrong.

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  5 років тому +3

      A few points in reply: 1. It is quite clear on the order page that you fit these parts to your own harmonica. 2. A substantial part of the cost is for international shipping, included. 3. The inserts themselves, which are all you need if you operate them with your fingers, are £20 including international postage. 4. All parts take time to make, by 3d printing and hand sanding/finishing, which costs money beyond the basic material cost. 5. They may just be 'small pieces of plastic' but they make a standard out-of-the-box harp overbend as well as, if not better than, a very expensive hand-customized harp that can cost hundreds of pounds. However you make a good point about wanting the complete harmonica, and we are working on an affordable harp which has the Overblow Booster parts included.
