How Submarine Combat Works Dueling Another SSN | Cold Waters w/ DotMod Tactics

- Here, I explain how Cold Water is played, with the simple scenario "The Duel" where a 688 is pitted against a similar Soviet sub.
-----
Engagement 1
We made sure 1 decoy is loaded then entered the scenario, immediately go to silent running, and deployed towed array.
We tried sweeping the different depths, but we never got a contact, both above or below the layer. We accepted the failure, and disengaged. You can't win every engagement.
Engagement 2
We made sure 1 decoy is loaded, then entered the scenario, immediately go to silent running, and deployed towed array.
We reduced speed to 2 kt due to strong duct.
We got a contact to our southeast almost immediately. We kept listening. We finally got his heading as northeast, at distance of 12 km. Then he started heading north.
We turned east, so we can slip in behind him, to conduct a baffle attack.
We made sure he could not hear us, then fired a torpedo as we entered his baffles. The torpedo was guided to almost directly behind him, then pointed at where he would be as torpedo approached, and left on "passive seeker", so he would get no warning.
We then watched the torpedo go in from the virtual torpedo camera. There was no launch transients as our torpedo was a complete surprise coming in from its baffles.

There were many different factors discussed, from how to position your submarine to how to read sensor panels. How to set activation points with torpedo, and how to dogleg. How to conduct baffle attacks and how to consider approach angles to optimize sensors. How to locate enemies...

Very well done! You have a great manner. Relaxed, concise, informative. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you kindly!
Great video man. Awesome
Very helpful, thankyou sir.
Not in the vanilla game, you are the only person to say that, I was wondering why I could not deploy my towed array, thanks.
Ah, I did say in the Title (and elsewhere) this is Cold Waters w/ DotMod. In the vanilla game there was no separate towed array (it's sorta modeled with the main stuff). I know, who reads titles nowadays? :)
@@CaptChang no mods list in the description.
@@techstepman As I said in the other reply, it's in the title.
@@CaptChang ...need to get back in cold waters cause ive been away so long i didnt even realise thats a mod title.
Thank you. I'm wondering why (or even how) your target didn't go red on the map, as I've seen in other uploads. Can't find that in the manual.
Can you give an example, like a timestamp in someone else's video?
Great for doing this but wish JiveTurkey had a vid like this
Loved your content, Please do a soviet submarine combat strategy guide. Soviet campaign is very difficult.
Actually, I wrote this back in October 2022. steamcommunity.com/app/541210/discussions/0/3550553789960609771/
Are you running mods? My UI looks very different to yours. Yours seem to have more functions
Just DotMod, as stated in title and description.
@@CaptChang many thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate your work 🙏
Your voice kind of sounds like Robert Reed, but with a slight accent.
You should have started the battle closer than 25k away.
Safer this way. -
