I'll say this I've always had better customer service from smaller brands that cost more. It makes me really want to spend money on them vs the mass consumer brands, but I also get why people buy the cheaper options this economy is no joke.
I love that Nigerian dresses got featured on this one, and they were so cute too!! Okay, as an African myself, I have a few things to say. 1. You can’t compare these pieces to ready to wear pieces because these types of clothes are made to fit the person it is made for. They’re extremely difficult to make from pictures and measurements that are sent to the makers. I would know because I have them made for me using pictures and I can say for a fact that I always have to alter them. Nothing beats having the designers take your measurements by themselves. 2. The brand Hope went with is not a generic brand. It’s a luxury one. Merely seeing the people wearing the outfits on the page can tell you that (Toke Makinwa, Adesua). Even Chioma is the wife of a billionaire, so of course the dresses weren’t going to be cheap. 3. Wearing custom dresses like this is an integral part of African and Nigerian culture. A comment saying they were probably premade in another country and just sewn together and the prices hiked up is not necessarily right, and I’m saying this because I’ve worked for a fashion brand before and I’ve seen what it takes for them to make their pieces with my own eyes. Designers do a lot, and while I don’t know for certain if the dresses were actually premade, I’ve seen some made, and I know they cost a lot of time and materials to make by hand, from scratch. And they actually have the expertise to make it from scratch, pattern drafting and all. Not all of them are “imported.” If you don’t like the outfits, that’s your opinion which you’re absolutely allowed to have but ultimately, Hope likes them and that’s what matters because she made the video. OMG - I saw this type of thing on some website today. I noticed, as I looked really closely, that the photos in the "reviews" were a better version of the dress shown in some of the other photos. Like there were more really great details and subtle differences that made a really big difference.
The OGs are gorgeous, but 1200 USD for a dress that doesn't fit and more for a dress with a lining that doesn't match your skintone? I think those are a miss. Same with the 900 dollar dress where your hoohaw is visible. They're GORGEOUS and you look amazing in everything, but those are not worth the money, tbh. The wedding dress though and the beaded dress with the shoulder beads were *chef's kiss*
Yea, I was thinking the same. The blue one is going to have to have the lining replaced as it's like shockingly not a color match. I suspect they probably don't get a lot of lighter skinned customers and really couldn't adjust.
The Nigerian made dresses are gorgeous but I hate to break it to you, here in Dubai you can buy the dress pattern literally premade and this is where they get it from and it cost around $90 per dress. They have the beading work, embroidery and embellishment very well made and All you have to do is literally sew the pieces together. I have personally made three DIY dresses from these Indian pre made patterns and OMG it looked so stunning you’d think I’m a seasoned designer where in reality i never sewn in my life lol. Hit me up if you want to try to DIY your own fancy dress for less than $150 and I will send you fabrics from here for free. I believe it will make a wonderful video idea ❤

One thing I love about Hope, is that she always supports small businesses and gives back, not just by giving away some of the items she purchases, but by making sure we don't get scammed by brands by trying them before to make sure they are worth it. While I agree that it’s great that Hope is supporting small businesses, I don’t understand why (this video doesn’t really apply unless you need these types of dresses), the websites for the small businesses that she reviews. I’ve been interested in some of the websites and their products. This way we would also be able to support them and since Hope reviews them, we would know whether or not to purchase from them. 🦋
I'd advise you to choose the last dress for the fashion show, because girl, you look breathtaking! It compliments your body shape so perfectly and the colour is simply stunning.

I don't think she got scammed at all. The dresses are going to fit and look differently because there's quite a difference in sizes between Hope and the ladies in the pictures. Also, every dress in the pictures are tailored to fit the models body perfectly whereas Hope's are not.

The Nigerian store's customer service was definitely top tier but the dresses were horrible and tacky. This material gets sold over here in the fabric souk for like $12 a metre.
@@kuromii9206 Fabric dye lots change color. The fabrics that are available one month even wholesale might not be available again later, and almost CERTAINLY won't exactly color match. The color it photographs as might also differ from reality, or what it looks like under natural vs florescent vs LED lighting, especially with clothing that is thin mesh and reflective. Even with machines applying the beads, sequins, rhinestones and mirror, it can be months waiting for a manufacturer to circle back to rerun a pattern they have previously released...and again, color matching exactly is not going to be a thing.
I feel like she didn't 100% like it either, even though she was trying to stay positive and be nice because it's custom made, you can feel her energy and excitement drop. It was evident that the silver dress wasn't nearly as nice as the one in the picture, and the blue one was just a little bit better but still a miss.

the brand who made the dress with feather sleeves designed it perfectly. a lot of high end brands (think gucci) don’t care about the aging of their clothing, but being able to remove the feathers for washing is great! i’ve seen a lot of expensive clothing be ruined because the leather bleeds and stuff :(

I agree, the original dress was way nicer and they didn’t match her skin tone right to the lining, it was too dark on both dresses… albeit they’re in Nigeria and probably don’t have much need for lighter skin toned lining, but for that price, they should’ve sent her liner swatches and asked her to pick a color(s) that match her tone… still pretty dresses, buuut definitely not worth that price, especially not the blue one. Other dresses on their site may be worth that (if they show up actually looking like the picture), but not the two she got.

comments mentioning that the material for the custom dresses is cheap so the dresses should be cheap...labor. if you want to buy fabric at cost, you get fabric. if you want to buy a dress that's been custom made, you have to pay for labor. i know people are used to shein sweatshop prices, but damn.
For real. The dresses are not my style but clearly quite well made and I’m confused by all the comments saying otherwise. The material does not look cheap either, the way they cut the fabric so that it looks like a pattern on the body is impressive. The biggest problems were easily the fit (the silver was terribly fit) and the lining which was not Hope’s shade. This would be beautiful dresses if those issues were fixed and unfortunately for over a 1000 I would expect perfection.
Lesson learned: Before purchasing a gorgeous, expensive-looking dress from a random internet company at a too-good-to-be-true price, take a screenshot of the dress and run it through Google Images. This way you can check to see if the same dress is sold elsewhere for a lot more. If your $49.99 dress appears on another site for $549, and there are more photos, etc. on that other site (more proof that their dress is legit), this could be a sign that the $49.99 dress might be a crappy knock-off. As they say, do "due diligence".
To me, the last two dresses were a big ooooof. I feel like they look really tacky and cheap. Great customer service and great to support a small business, but at the end of the day you're buying a product, and they were awful in many different ways. (in my opinion! Hope obvs looks beautiful, but I'm remarking on the dress quality)

I like the channel but I don't feel she gave an honest reaction to the last two dresses. The first one literally didn't fit her and didn't look the same as the one she ordered. If she didn't feel comfortable calling them out because they're a small business , she just shouldn't have shown the dresses on the video.

For the pink dress you could attach some feathers that match the sleeves or some string of diamonds that match the diaminds on the dress (i am not sure exactly what theyre called) you could fabric glue them on though or stitch,etc.. sometimes they come in a line of long strings and you could put them on the hem of the cut part.. it would add a lovely look and cover the problem !! Hope looked her best in the wedding dress to be honest. She somehow was glowing in it. It was looking as if it was custom made for her. Rest all were okayish nothing over the moon. The 2nd last dress actual story is so.. Such beaded fabrics are actually manufactured in China and India and exported to African countries and Dubai due to their huge demand there. Yes these fabrics are very expensive and are all machine beaded. In this case the designer bought the fabric probably they have a regular factory out in China that they get their fabric customized from. They then filled in the gaps in the fabric with handbeading which again is a tedius job. Hope would have looked better in the 2nd last dress if they had measured her themselves and had fitting sessions with her in person. Its difficult to expect pro results with measurements customers send you online. I am a fashion designer too so I totally understand. The last dress looks good on Hope in terms of colour and the fitting but definitely not a pick for a fashion show attendee ( style feels way outdated).

I was really disappointed in the mirror dress. The big chunks is what makes the mirror effect and the dress received looked very little like it. In the end it lost all its uniqueness. For such a high price…

I did not buy the dress of my dreams when I got married. Just a cheap one I could afford. This year will be our 30th anniversary. Let me assure you that the dress you wear will have no impact on your wedding (nor your marriage for that matter). It’s the people you’ll be surrounded with and the energy you all provide. To be honest, hope is such a sweet person but I think the last dresses weren't it for me. First of all even though the seller continued to text her to make sure things are okay, for such an expensive dress you shouldn't have to wait 2 extra months, and the dress should look just like the picture not the fabric looking darker because your paying a lot for it. For the first dress, it really doesn't look like the picture, and even fi her body type is different it can still look just as beautiful but the pattern and color are different. For the second dress, the brown underneath really ruins how beautiful it could've been, and doesn't match her skin tone, and this really matters because of how expensive the dress was. Honestly, I think hoep is just super kind but I dont really like the dresses and I can tell most of you don't either.

Try to find a mini bodycon dress in the same color of the second dress to wear underneath preferably in a shiny material (or just use the base of the 3rd scam dress). Solves the see-through issue and the high slit as well.

I don't know about top tier, because even with communication they delayed the expensive dress by 2 months and made the other one a darker colour.

the brand who made the dress with feather sleeves designed it perfectly. a lot of high end brands (think gucci) don’t care about the aging of their clothing, but being able to remove the feathers for washing is great! i’ve seen a lot of expensive clothing be ruined because the leather bleeds and stuff :(

I agree, the original dress was way nicer and they didn’t match her skin tone right to the lining, it was too dark on both dresses… albeit they’re in Nigeria and probably don’t have much need for lighter skin toned lining, but for that price, they should’ve sent her liner swatches and asked her to pick a color(s) that match her tone… still pretty dresses, buuut definitely not worth that price, especially not the blue one. Other dresses on their site may be worth that (if they show up actually looking like the picture), but not the two she got.

comments mentioning that the material for the custom dresses is cheap so the dresses should be cheap...labor. if you want to buy fabric at cost, you get fabric. if you want to buy a dress that's been custom made, you have to pay for labor. i know people are used to shein sweatshop prices, but damn.
For real. The dresses are not my style but clearly quite well made and I’m confused by all the comments saying otherwise. The material does not look cheap either, the way they cut the fabric so that it looks like a pattern on the body is impressive. The biggest problems were easily the fit (the silver was terribly fit) and the lining which was not Hope’s shade. This would be beautiful dresses if those issues were fixed and unfortunately for over a 1000 I would expect perfection.

Lesson learned: Before purchasing a gorgeous, expensive-looking dress from a random internet company at a too-good-to-be-true price, take a screenshot of the dress and run it through Google Images. This way you can check to see if the same dress is sold elsewhere for a lot more. If your $49.99 dress appears on another site for $549, and there are more photos, etc. on that other site (more proof that their dress is legit), this could be a sign that the $49.99 dress might be a crappy knock-off. As they say, do "due diligence".
To me, the last two dresses were a big ooooof. I feel like they look really tacky and cheap. Great customer service and great to support a small business, but at the end of the day you're buying a product, and they were awful in many different ways. (in my opinion! Hope obvs looks beautiful, but I'm remarking on the dress quality)

For the pink dress you could attach some feathers that match the sleeves or some string of diamonds that match the diaminds on the dress (i am not sure exactly what theyre called) you could fabric glue them on though or stitch,etc.. sometimes they come in a line of long strings and you could put them on the hem of the cut part.. it would add a lovely look and cover the problem !!

finally I thought I was the only one who noticed that
Hope looked her best in the wedding dress to be honest. She somehow was glowing in it. It was looking as if it was custom made for her. Rest all were okayish nothing over the moon. The 2nd last dress actual story is so.. Such beaded fabrics are actually manufactured in China and India and exported to African countries and Dubai due to their huge demand there. Yes these fabrics are very expensive and are all machine beaded. In this case the designer bought the fabric probably they have a regular factory out in China that they get their fabric customized from. They then filled in the gaps in the fabric with handbeading which again is a tedius job. Hope would have looked better in the 2nd last dress if they had measured her themselves and had fitting sessions with her in person. Its difficult to expect pro results with measurements customers send you online. I am a fashion designer too so I totally understand. The last dress looks good on Hope in terms of colour and the fitting but definitely not a pick for a fashion show attendee ( style feels way outdated).

@jennymichelle81 as I stated above I came from a poor household I don't have someone paying for everything for me so its been hard getting a dress and finding the right one too especially in this economy. Also you never know what's going on in someone's life.

To be honest, hope is such a sweet person but I think the last dresses weren't it for me. First of all even though the seller continued to text her to make sure things are okay, for such an expensive dress you shouldn't have to wait 2 extra months, and the dress should look just like the picture not the fabric looking darker because your paying a lot for it. For the first dress, it really doesn't look like the picture, and even fi her body type is different it can still look just as beautiful but the pattern and color are different. For the second dress, the brown underneath really ruins how beautiful it could've been, and doesn't match her skin tone, and this really matters because of how expensive the dress was. Honestly, I think hoep is just super kind but I dont really like the dresses and I can tell most of you don't either.

Try to find a mini bodycon dress in the same color of the second dress to wear underneath preferably in a shiny material (or just use the base of the 3rd scam dress). Solves the see-through issue and the high slit as well.
