Io imparavo a suonare l'armonium spiegava l'opera i vocalizzi di Del Monaco che cantava (1958) ecc... A me rimase in mente questa aria....
Oggi ci dobbiamo accontentare solo di queste registrazioni perché purtroppo voci di questo calibro non ci sono più. Personalmente il più grande tenore di tutti i tempi, ogni volta che ascolto la sua voce è una grande emozione.

Wow Mario DelMonaco had what it took to thrill and stimulate the inner ears of tenor opera lovers. He could hit and belt out the high c . Ears were like magnets to his powerful voice. An emotional sound in his high notes. But there was another Mario. Mario Lanza ,a voice out of this world because it was angelic. The voice sounded divine only a God could sound like him , pure , round, big and extremely emotional not to mention his clear diction.There have been only 2 heroes in my life , my dad a sicilian tenor with a pure voice and I still have recordings of him and sometimes mistaken and asked if he was Mario Lanza in his country. The other was Mario Lanza. I have been singing and self trained myself since seeing Lanza movies. I sound like in between my dad and Mario Lannza. Am 61 but never did anything to have a career.
Your praise of both Lanza and Del Monaco is totally justified however, you're ignoring a vital difference between Lanza and all the other great tenors of the past. Namely, the others, including Del Monaco made their bones on the operatic stage, in front of the "conoscenti" people who really knew opera and would judge harshly a blown hi note. That's where artists like MDM, Corelli, Bjorling, Caruso, Pavarotti and so many more became legends. The Italian opera buffs that attended La Scala wouldn't hesitate to boo their asses off if the singer fucked up. Lanza, with rare exception was a creature of the recording studio with the aid of sound engineers and the opportunity to redo a passage before the final cut. I say this as a big fan of Lanza. Had he followed his heart and talent and appeared on stage in the great opera houses of the globe he probably would have lived a lot longer as it is believded that his constant crash diets caused his heart problems. Farewell home of love." in this great Puccini aria. For Butterfly it was all for him . For Pinkerton it was all for himself. His remorse was all too late, the damage he created was irreversible.

Io vado a teatro circa cinque volte l'anno...e ci andrò sempre meno...ma se ci fosse all'orizzonte un artista del genere farei l'abbonamento per vedere questo artista come dice Lei (stile sorpassato)... "Chi si accontenta gode" .
