Keep the different pitches (in this format) coming!! Helps the younger kids understand what the balls are actually doing that causes movement and also the importance of masking the different pitches so they look the same early out of the hand. Great work!
Most professional pitchers agree that kids shouldn't throw a slider/cutter because of the impact to your arm.
I feel like personally kids should only throw a fastball and maybe some sort of change up, because if you were watching the LLWS the chris sale look alike was throwing a curve and slider and dropping his elbow when he threw it.

@@theRealUmpZY right but regardless of how great a parent thinks their kid is and how capable he is of taking care of himself the truth is most kids will never be in a position to really need to throw a cutter. Teach them how to throw with accuracy and to develop a changeup and they'll be good until they're in their mid teens.

Excellent stuff! This was the best pitch design video that I've seen. You (I) really need to see the graph of the axes and the slow mo of the way it comes off the hand to really understand what a pitch is supposed to do. Can't wait for your other videos!

Awesome graphics. This is pretty much how I visualize pitching anyway. It's just tremendous repetition and determination, research, experimenting, etc to get the ball to spin consistently with a comfortable enough grip. Each pitcher has a natural advantage for certain spin, and they gotta really foster that into a working combination that fools hitters. Hearing ohtani and gausman and others speak about blisters forming from snapping the ball seams so hard it helps explain that .0001 of a second during the pitcher's release. I love how u mentioned the way the ball 'feels like' it's leaving your hand is going to be different than how it is really leaving your hand. Film is the key to matching that grip feel to spins, hand rotation, alignment of wrist to forearm and so forth. God it must be so satisfying to throw a pitch that perfectly breaks how you command it to.

My gawd finally! Someone explaining pitches on a real level!! Even for Bauer this was extraordinary and his tips are usual that!. Only thing I’d say maybe slow down explaining some of the info not the visual part, but speaking part. Dunno if TB went over this but like to hear dynamics on catcher, pitcher. Strange how some pitchers only work with certain catchers but then some pitchers are really flexible on catchers…

Wondering if in future videos you could focus a little more on how you grip the ball and the hand/arm action you use. I realize you said that the specific grip is not that important, but I think it would be cool to get a closer look, with the ball in your hand, at exactly how you’re gripping the ball and where you’re applying pressure.

That was legit awesome tutorial…any theories on what made Mariano’s cutter such an outlier? From interviews he always said it had four seam spin so my guess was he was able to generate less gyro spin then most so it resemble a lefty fastball, but coming from a righty… it could explain the above average “rise” he had on his cutter.

Love the videos, very helpful for me to teach my son about pitching, pitching dynamics and how to use pitches and why. That said, I think I would prefer a cutter with more of a 11-5 rotation which I think would be easier to control, a little faster, likely a later break but not as much movement

I want a more in depth discussion of the forces acting on the baseball. For example, where does the Magnus force act on the pitch, according to the axis of rotation and spin direction. Also, It would be helpful if you could define those concepts, and how it affects the trajectory of each one of your pitches.

Pitching seems so much more complicated than batting. You really know your stuff and are a good teacher. I'm strictly a spectator but I can see how useful your vids would be for s player.
I'd say easy to learn but impossible to master lmao. So much that goes into pitch design but it's easy to get on the mound and just throw over the plate if that makes sense.

I take it Tatis will not like that cheating comment. All I know is I wanted every single Astro player in 2017 to had been punished for their cheating. The cheating players still kept their title and their World Series bonus pay. While the manager and coaches got suspended along with the GM being fired. Why them and not the players who were the ones who did the cheating? Some of the Dodgers pitching careers were hurt by the cheating.
@@dphotos007 not just the astros a few other teams and probably many but the astros were the first to be known and that put all the blame on them. i get that they stole the ws, but they couldve also punished teams like the red sox more

I want to understand the actual grip better. The finger and thumb placement specifically. Can you do a video comparing your grip to Mariano Rivera’s?
One thing you could add could be how major league hitters are still able to recognize the pitch even though many major league pitchers have perfected their pitch design. Obviously you're not a hitter but what do you think they think about when they have many different pitches they face everyday?

Im 13 and Ive thrown this and a preset curveball (I preset my wrist so I dont have to snap it) I have been striking out a ton if hitters. Kids my age know how to hit a slider and a curveball but not a cutter. Low outside or any inside cutters most kids dont know how to hit it. I found this useful for me😊

You can also throw a cutter by using a two-seam grip and just changing the angle of your wrist at release. If you can throw a good two-seamer, you will be able to see the "bald" (no seams) part of the ball on each side (though it doesn't have to be perfect). If you then orient your wrist to the to the left (RH pitcher) slightly (while your fingers stay on top of the ball in a two-seam grip), you will insure that as the pitcher you will see one side of the bald spot at an angle from the back of the ball and that the leading edge of the ball will show the other bald spot to the batter. This will cause the ball to dart left (from a RH pitcher) as it approaches the plate. This movement is also attributed to a difference in air pressure as one side of the leading edge is smooth while the other side is rough (seams). This pushes the ball to the rough side (this is the idea behind getting a scuffed ball to move as well, which is why umpires are taught to remove scuffed balls from play). If you orient the ball coming out of your hand the other way, you can make it dart to the right. And of course you can also throw a sinker with a two-seam grip if you get one of the bald spots to orient upwards and the other downwards to some degree. This destroys lift at the bottom of the ball and allows gravity to pull it down faster than a normal four-seam fastball. So it will dive as it gets to the plate, and depending on the orientation of the ball it may dart right (for a righty) as well as drop.
I'll be happy when you pitch for the dodgers again and quiet all the haters.

Suggestion!!! Place two dots on the ball of different colors on the football style axis so that kids can see the ball and the gyro more pronounce or less with the different pitches. It would be good to see the different dot sides show up on a spin. Also explain seam position or finger seam placement. Thanks for this man, you are deffinatly going to improve pitching for generations. Do you prefer COACH BAUER OR COACH TREVOR!!!!????????
I haven't played baseball since Pony league, Never played high school or collage. I'ma tryout for a team in February then I will try out for the Round Rock Express, Yeah I'ma dreamer but I have a Beautiful Swing and I cant let it go to waist any longer. I watch your videos so I know what's coming. They have no idea what's coming for them!! If my plan doesn't work then Ill take your advice and pull some Fernando Tatis moves LOL

If you haven’t watched it he made a video called how to throw a gangster curveball there’s a couple things to do and progressively get the muscle memory of how to karate chop it’s helped me a lot to throw a curveball you should check it out

Shots fired at Tatis! He definitely knew it was a cutter because he stretched out to get contact on that ball that was 8" off the plate and down. I don't know if it was because he peeked or didn't peek because everyone knows they use different sequences to sign pitches but somehow he knew where that ball was going right off the mound.
He totally peaked. For sure. And they really only use different signs when there is somebody on second. I can guarantee the Padres know the Dodgers signs well and vice versa. Tatis knew what was coming and nailed it.
