I hope my iced tea that is in the mail will be as beautiful as yours. I started 40 years ago with a les Paul clone I still have, then played 35 years for most on a Fender Strat, the last 5 years a Musicman Majesty (a great guitar) was my favourite but all those years a real Les Paul stayed on my wish list. By far the best done review I have seen.
Very thorough review. I've been playing guitar for well over 50 years, and Les Pauls for around 35. These new Standard 50's and 60's LPs are very, very good guitars. To get a "better" one you'd have to go Gibson Custom Shop, and pay at least an extra $2000 US on the purchase. I have the 50's version of this guitar that I purchased from Wildwood Guitars here in the States, and I'm very happy with it.
Shopped 38 stores in 3 states in 2 years…finally got one!! And yeah, Like you, been a Strat guy my whole life; wanted another legacy brand before I go out 🪦! Thanks for “Fretting it Forward” getting use to my LP 🤩
I agree with your assessment.. I expected it would be heavy since it's not weight relief, but it's not that bad.. Not as comfortable as a Strat but nevertheless not a boat anchor.. My only drawback would be that the rosewood fingerboard was actually quite dry.. A touch of lemon oil solved it.. BTW my cat also enjoyed the casing..
Thanks for your comment . . Yes, dry fret boards seems to be an expected these days, all the guitars I review from $99 to $9000 need some oil or fretboard conditioner. Cat's just seem to own the place, wherever you live 😊😃😃
Very good review, indeed ! As far as I remember, my « 60’s » has been also provided with a plain black truss rod screw cover to exchange (if you wish) with the one with « standard » written on the same 😊….
@@guitar-academy Gibson was supposed to include a extra blank truss rod cover. I did not hear you mention it when you went over what was in the case? They include a blank one because players such as myself prefer the truss rod to not have any writing on it just like the old 50's and early 60's Les Paul's had the black truss rod cover. It may not even be a issue to you that it say's "Standard" there but i thought you should know anyway.
I totally agree with you about it being a bit 'off' not in a bad way but just different from the 1999 les paul studio that I have. Playability is like a fight it seems at times... great guitar tho
I went with a Tribute because it has a satin finish on the neck and isn't sticky. I want to want a Standard but I'm just not sure... it is a work of art though.

You can't get both guitars in the same colours. You can't get the gold top in the 60s. Just so you know. Also the gold top comes in a p90 version and also p90 in tobacco burst
I just purchased a 2023 lp standard bourbon burst. The guitar quality, feel and sound met my expectations. The salesman and I opened the box in the shop and I did as much of an inspection as I thought was necessary before purchasing it. When I got home I noticed in the case compartment there was no blue warranty pamphlet and no inspection form checklist. My concern is that if I ever go to sell it I really don’t have any proof that it’s a LP standard other than the truss rod cover which you can get anywhere. Also no plastic removable film on the pick guard and back plates.
I fully understand your concerns. The Chinese have made some exact copies that could fool a lot of people. The sad thing is that they even copy the paperwork. Buying from a music shop is the safest way to buy 🤔
It is a real Gibson, it has the tool, bench photo, polish cloth, owners manual. But I’m a case candy fanatic and I will be calling Gibson customer service today. Thanks for the reply!
I often wondered why Gibson don’t route a 1cm groove either side of neck and insert carbon fibre inserts then cap with mahogany you then have a very very strong stable neck and charge a $150 more on the retail price.
@GCH GUITAR ACADEMY, It has been a few days now that you have had this Beauty what is your up to date verdict? I am getting ready to buy one just like it for myself and am 99% sure i will love it. I already love the Iced tea finish and know they sound great but i am not positive about the neck? it is not real think is it? My super strats all have the "wizard" necks so i want a Les Paul with a different feel. Not into baseball bats but a neck with some substance to it would be nice.
I recorded this in order but if I'd have recorded the end first I would have mentioned the sustain. I've heard people talk about the sustain on Les Pauls in the past but thought it was the usual BS you get with guitars . . but it isn't BS. It just wanted to ring and ring on for so long. If you're use to superstrats this neck isn't chunky at all and you might miss a tremolo bar, I know I do. 😊
@@These_go_to_eleven_1959 No, but it is thin. The 50s one has a thicker neck, but the pickups are less powerful. If you can try one it would be well worth while. 😊
