Love Pauline Collins, and so happy she won the Tony Award for playing Shirley Valentine onstage, such a shame she didn't win the Oscar for playing the role in the film, but great she was Oscar nominated at least.
The Oscar story goes: she asked her agent if she should have a campaign to try to win. She was told that no, Jessica Tandy is going to win. Case closed. Wear a pretty dress, do all the interviews and stand up when she wins. And she did. Graciously.
I always have loved her acting especially in Upstairs Downstairs, Shirley Valentine and No Honestly where she starred alongside her husband John Alperton. I really liked seeing them act together. Great acting couple whose marriage has stood the test of time.
Watch her and Joan Collins in the movie THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES..you will be sweetly and pleasantly surprised..I thought it was going to be lame, but a really funny and heartwearming watch.
Shirley Valentine is one of my all time favorites. A true classic. She is a great actress.
Re watched SV yesterday. Still makes me cry. Wonderfully written and performed.
