Lovely reaction! This may be the catchiest song of all time and it's so serious yet so silly. I could never not laugh reading some of these words so Stephen did a great job. Kate's creativity is still at 100%, no idea how she came up with some of these. My favorite part though is the chorus, it's so addictive and fun and Kate is so desperate for more words, she's like "COME ON, YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!!!". I genuinely believe this is a masterpiece.
The feel of this song is expansive in its wintriness and I love the dichotomy of the lyrics being so literal and the music being so driven and imaginative.
I had read some extremely mixed reviews of this album and had put off listening to it. I am so glad you did this reaction to it, it's quickly becoming one of my favorites from her.
The rhythm section is cooking up an absolute storm on this. Steve Gadd's drumming is as magisterial as you'd expect, but John Giblin's bass playing is just the *business* too - he's one of the best bassists around. This track shouldn't really work, but I absolutely love it. (Btw, number 42 is in Klingon!)
My favourite track on the album. Stephen Fry has one of those voices that just captivates and the guitar tone and chords, particularly in the chorus, remind me of Joni Mitchell.
I noticed that you have mentioned The Sandman a couple of times while discussing this album. Here's a fun fact: Neil Gaiman is a big Kate Bush fan, and a major aspect of The Sandman was named after a Kate Bush album. Does "The Dreaming" ring any bells?
I know it is a terrible, terrible, terrible pun, and I apologize for it in advance, but on her album "50 Words For Snow" Kate manages to give us one of her coolest songs. This song along with "Wild Man" was my gateway into this album and to me along with Pi showcases her creative ability as much as anything else she ever did. Sorry once again!
It might be Time for an "Intervention" for you Justin fir this New Year with you and your obsessive addiction with Kate Bush !!! 🤔😆😜 Just pulling your string man ✌ Hey I need a "Major" Classic Prog fix reaction for the end of this year, anything from my Live Patron list will do !! 👍🎵🎼🎶
Again a great reaction - thanks! Having taught in Greenland I know that there is a big hoax about the number of words for snow in Greenlandic, but still the idea is great, like your analysis.
the year 2030 is coming... and I'm happy because Justin announced that this year he's going to react to Marillion's best album "Misplaced Childhood" 🥳😅 😂
Hi JP. DP from UK. The Best Is Yet To Come. 'Fraid I've never been a big fan of this album, but for me the absolute stand-out track comes next. Yes, this one is very literal, a bit like Pi from Aerial where she sings all the decimal digits of the mathematical term. P.S. my song ref The Best... is by Clifford T. Ward.
Stephen Fry is half the comedy team of Fry & Laurie, Hugh Laurie is better known in the US as Dr. House in the brilliant TV series "House M.D." Fry was also in my favorite film "V for Vendetta" as the comedy show host. This track has more energy to it, nice to hear the guitar. The album would have benefited by putting this song earlier in the track list to break up the dreariness. Still the "lyrics" are pretty light-weight. Sonically it's a nice respite.
It was such a wise move, by Kate, to use Stephen Fry on this track. Stephen is more than just an actor; he is a writer, comedian, presenter, intellectual and, "UK National Treasure". He delivers the imaginative words for snow with great panache and authority. It is not my favourite song on the album, but it does have a great groove. Out of the ones I can pronounce, "blackbird braille" and, "anklebreaker" are my favourite words.
I think it is great you approach it with your sense of humour. Yes Laurie Anderson comes to mind, but this one really does not come anywhere near Laurie's superior songwriting. It is Steve's drumwork that is interesting enough to listen to the song once in a couple of years. Sorry Kate, but no. But.... right after this track, one of her most beautiful songs comes in view. The album closer, 'Among Angels'. On UA-cam a video exists where the music was laid over an already existing animation video: Michael Dudok De Wit's "Father And Daughter". Heartwrenchingly beautiful.
Love this tune. She has a song called Pi, in which she recites the numerical 3.1519 etc., and it's awesome!
Thanks for the fun reaction. I can never resist blasting this one LOUD! Steve Gadd kills it on the drums. One of my fave Kate tunes.

A landscape of sound defining a landscape of snow... the percussion drives this along like a blizzard... I think Steve Gadd is the man...

Sorbetdeluge.......... ......
Thank JP

This song is just a total vibe, like your videos, Justin. It's fun and I love the jangly guitars.
😀 Who's counting?🌨❄One word,-masterpiece!✌

Kate Bush is a genius!
This is my go-to track off this album
Eskimos have 50 words for snow but zero words for heat.

To me, "Pi" is still more literal
More numeral than literal, IMHO.

Wait until you Hear Pi by Kate Bush.
All positive about the music! It swings
I'm here for you my lover 🥰
This album was a disappointment to me after Aerial. However the vinyl album is beautifully packaged and this track is wonderfully original and fun.
Most literal song ever?
You have heard Pi from Aerial?

Misty is the real masterpiece on the album ^^
Love how you find foreign words so hilarious- how typically insular.

Not for me this one, sorry Kate.
