This must be my fourth or fifth comment on Tori's singing. She is sheer magic and whether doing her brand new songs or tributes she sings in such a way that she owns them as her own. No there won't be another Karen Carpenter but I can safely say at this early stage there will never be another Tori Holub. I have not heard a vocalist this on target in years. Her buttery smokey contralto is so impressive she makes herself brand new each time. ❤

I wasn't sure how familiar you were with the Carpenters, but I would recommend listening to the original on your own time if you are not. That is where the greatest impact of this performance comes from. I see Joe recommended her latest performance from Olivia Newton-John called Suddenly. That's a wonderful choice. I would also recommend another Carpenter song which is the Backrach David Medley as performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. Tori slays this and it is a very difficult arrangement. I am subscribed to your channel and enjoy your love of music, as I share that. Thanks for all.
Jamie! You know the killer about Tori? She actually made dozens of covers before this on her own in her home studio. She works with multitrack decks and sequencing software to layer herself in her covers. She's quite the audio engineer, which is obscured by how gorgeous her singing is. I agree with your adjective, sultry, as it exemplifies the full timbre of her sound. Two notables about her singing is that she sings on pitch and has a seemingly endless vibrato. I think she's a better singer than a great amount of singers signed with major labels. Now this will be even more boggling ... so, she did this in Karen's contralto range. Now, you wanna hear her go high in Olivia Newton-John's range? Check out the recently released cover of her doing Olivia Newton-John? It's John Farrar's "Suddenly," which was arranged and performed by Dan Wesley, who sang Cliff Richard's part, while Tori sang Olivia's. The stunning thing is that Tori now goes higher, in Olivia's soprano range, and she doesn't scream or get pinched. She's just as clear and can hit the notes with her chest voice without resorting to falsetto. She's amazing.
Very nice reaction. Tori is a diamond and a devoted Carpenters fan and she is paying the ultimate tribute to the contribution that Karen and Richard made. While Karen is undoubtedly in her own league, Tori comes the closest in my estimation to capturing her spirit while still conveying the warmth and clarity of her own voice. You should know that the video production and audio mixing was primarily created by Jim Wilkas who did background vocals and played a number of the instruments as well. My understanding is that he approached Tori about singing for this track which already had all the parts completed except for the vocals. All of the musicians in this video made such wonderful contributions to this effort and I think that's why it resonates so effectively with so many. I would concur with @jbs256's suggestion for further options. And while you may prefer to not react to just audio, one of my personal favorites that Tori has released is a version of Georgia on My Mind. Its absolutely beautiful. I have listened to this cover many times, and have watched many "reaction" videos of it. Yours is one of my favorite reactions. You critique the piece on its own merits and that is it. You rate Tori for Tori alone. So many reactions videos are heavily loaded with, "She sounds so much like Karen", or "she doesn't sound like Karen." Or, 'there will never be anyone like Karen." One guy nit picked every 2 seconds; we all know who that is. Tori is Tori and she is extremely talented and gifted.
