I was so surprised that in this season I saw so many "wtf is this, I don't understand what is going on" comments. This mostly happens to anime with complex plot.
Episode is not a recap. Fern’s first attack was blocked. In the manga, this is clearer as the “it was blocked” started the chapter and did not include the black hole and golem scene.
MISSED KEY DETAIL - remember when lugnar Demon didn't look at Stark and Fern when frieren was held on the ground to basically show how one "underestimated " them but thinking they were weak. In this fight, frierens clone didn't look at Fern for the first couple of hits, Fern did but kept getting auto blocked until Fern managed to get one of her arms off, THEN the clone FINALLY LOOKED AT HER.
80 years ago Frieren used "the height of magic". That falls within the tail end of her journey with Himmel. Makes you wonder if Fern forced Frieren to use a spell she had to use against the Demon King.
I don't know why they didn't animate it, but there's a panel in the manga that shows Clone Frieren blocking Fern's first Zoltraak shot, the one that ended last episode. It would've been a smoother transition into this episode, if they showed that, but I guess they wanted more time for everything else? Clone Frieren's blackhole, Frieren's Just for Vibes golem, that planet reality breaking spell, all were anime exclusive! This episode was amazing!
yea, i also dont understand why they dont animated the clone block zoltraak, it's make the transition between 2 episode a bit confusing. btw, i think the golem is "copycat golem". when the replica shot and Frieren block, its just 1 lightning strike. But when she strike back with golem, it's 2 lightning
@@vinhnq3607I think it is implied that the golem fires its own lightning. Talk about evolving, from just breakdancing during Himmel's time, to firing destructive lightning lol.
From Ubel's "Magic is about visualization." to Fern's "This is the the height of magic." witnessing clone Frieren do unrecognizable spell that isn't really magic and knocked Fern off the wall without staff/hands.
The disconnect on the start is Fern's zoltrack from last ep is just being blocked by the clone and Fern keeps sniping it. Yet the clone didnt see Fern as a real threat and the clone and Frieren just keeps dishing out cosmic level spells. Until Fern finally landed hits and disarming the clone, and the clone change focus to Fern. And this is the opening Frieren was actually waiting for.
I thought the opening was Frieren using her “height of magic” you can see a magic circle under Frieren. This implies that she didn’t have enough time to turn on her defense because you can’t use an attack spell and defense spell at the same time
@@friedhotwingsthe attack frieren used to finish the clone was just a huge zoltrack. Because the so called "height of magic" you talk about should have a huge disadvantage, it can be completely negated by someone who can use the same spell.
@@friedhotwings ah alright my bad. But btw, we know you can't use attack and defence spell at the same time, but if i remember correctly we saw frieren use both at the same time near the start of the anime, or is that my imagination
aaannnd now people are gonna overhype the hell out of frieren and underestimate everybody else lol. that's why I didn't like all the bullshit the anime team added to this fight. wtf was she even doing during that scene when a bunch of pretty colors were appearing on the screen and then it all broke down like glasses ? that didn't even make no sense and you can't comprehend what was happening either.
@@boboyo3140 it depend on their mind since this series's characters had a lot interesting story. about underestimating other character maybe it's exaggeration, since Frieren and Serie already said it, Frieren is OP but still can be defeated. Remember her statement about how she defeated by human mage? that's what mostly people miss about it. Still make sense tho. It's just symbolization about how far OP people can be defeated.
@@Heyya01 that black hole was ass tho, it just sucked some rocks in and then exploded repelling them back, a real life black hole of that size would have destroyed the earth lol, the one Frieren summoned couldn't even make her flinch, it clearly didn't have the power of an actual black hole at all.
I like how Wirbel is not surprised at all that Ubel won and immediately recognizes the matchup. He's also barely scuffed up at the end when the others can't move. Even though we don't see him do that much fighting, it's clear he's among the top class there due to his experience. Likewise, even though we don't see the fight, the positioning of the rising dust and Methode looking pretty unbothered implies she was right about having no issues handling Fern's clone. The test does a pretty good job throughout on showing who is clear first-class material even on characters not shown with a lot of screentime.
Ubel can't visualize cutting through magic shields because she uses magic shields herself. If she could visualize her own spells getting through magic shield then that would cause her own magic shield to become weaker and unable to stop enemy spells.
Fun fact for anyone who didn't pick this up: During the little arc with Sein, it was stated that Curses aren't usually detected as magic by Mages, and curses are just demon/monster spells so advanced that mages don't understand them yet. Fern didn't detect that attack as magic, implying frieren's clone was casting a curse. Frieren knows an actual demon curse and is choosing not to use it unless in dire emergency.
we don't know if that was a curse. frieren actually says during the Sein little arc that curses are monster/demon spells that can put people to sleep or petrify them. frieren's attack doesn't qualify as neither option. macht's gold magic is a curse because it can petrify you into gold. grausam's illusion magic is a curse because it can put you to sleep. frieren's attack didn't do anything like this, so it must not be a curse but something else entirely.
Frieren's height of magic moment is absolutely the most baller move I have ever seen in a show about magic. No hands to cast signs. No staff. No spells used. No mana used. Essentially meaning that Frieren just realitywarped and did a significant spell effect without even following any of the rules about magic except for the visualization rule(probably). We don't know the limit of this feat, whether she can only use it once in a blue moon or if it can't produce every spell effect, but if the limits are loose and she is personally choosing to not use it often. She is just technically cheating, she is making magical effects from NOTHING. NO RESOURCES USED. Thats godlike. Also who is to say what spell effects this feat can produce, it isn't counted as a spell by fern, so does it even need to be a spell she can use or is it just limited by her imagination and visualization?
@@sepg5084 I think Ubel's "Superpower" is that she can trick herself into thinking that she can cut anything that looks mundane while it is clearly protected by various magical barriers. Whether or not this ability applies to any other spell than her cut is unknown but probable. I think Frierens ability is more like the ability to literally visualize herself not needing magic to produce magic. This could mean that Frieren is tricking herself similar to how Ubel is doing it, but it could also mean that deep down Frieren is so confident in her abilities that she actually just thinks that she doesn't need "magic" to produce it if the situation requires it.
@@tinius9276 Übel isn't tricking herself, at least not intentionally; she just has no intellectual understanding of how magic is supposed to work; she doesn't learn from books, she learns by watching other mages and copying them by feel; and since she doesn't understand how Burg's or Sense's protection magic is supposed to work, and cloth and hair are by definition and in her experience easy to cut, she can't visualize herself as being unable to cut them, not out of some sort of mind trick but out of sheer _misunderstanding_ of why she shouldn't be able to. She's basically so dumb when it comes to the theory of magic that she pulls an integer overflow and comes out the other end as an idiot savant of sorts.
I think that Freiren clone was angry, and that Freiren understands that it the upper limit of magic is that if you want it enough, it will happen. It is not a suggestion or a visualization. The clone was angry enough to not care in the slightest. Not enough mana? don't care. Not a spell? don't care. going to die? don't care. Freiren clone is angry, and she wanted revenge.
fern's going to be even more terrifying as time goes on.. she's young yet veteran mages needs to be wary of her clone bc she's that dangerous. Frieren better show off fern to Flamme when they get to heaven
Its not a recap, its continuation of the fight. Fern failed with the sneak attack from last episode. They explain that in this one, just that small sneak gap is not enough, thats why Frieren had to resort to letting herself get hurt so her replica puts her guard down some more
Except that's not what was said. She said fern could kill frieren which technically is true. All it takes is a sneak attack while she's fighting a willingness to die in the process.
@@aziouss2863 you really don't know frieren, including sense she can finish all if they ganged up to her... Frieren said herself that fern can attack her cos she will be fighting her clone and clone knows how frightening she can be. A girl in teens can never hurt frieren. Moreover if fern didn't stoped firing attacks she still would have fired the spell she wanted. What else do u expect from a mage who fires spells without staff... And about fight..just for eg. if frieren has 1000exp and fern (10) they will have combined 1010 which is 10 more than frieren's clone.
@@TAKAMI-jk6fw wdym for a 2v1 fight? the whole point of the test was cooperation & on top of that frieren & fern were trained to use underhanded tactics to win. btw there's gonna be more of this kind of thing in the future
The fact that you think they did all that crazy animation this episode just as a recap for the fight from the previous episode is hilarious. The Frieren replica blocked the attack from last episode and every single fight scene from this episode was just the continuation of the fight. There was no recap.
The Magic combat against the Clones in this episode with its animation is fantastic & that Mimic scene at the end, & a fun fact when Frieren destroy the Spiegel in the manga she used a giant explosion spell to destroy it rather than a simple shattering spell
"Pinnacle of Magic" the term used in the manga means its not just the height it is the highest point. Pure magic no staff no casting just visualization.
@@alexthai5223 No, she doesn't. As Land points out: She has no understanding of magic at all. No formal training and no booksmarts, as you'd say. She says she can't imagine cutting through a defensive barrier, but hair with multiple defensive spells is fair game to her. She's relying purely on instinct, and her imagination. She could cut through the proctor's cloak because she doesn't understand any of the spells he wove into the magic.
20:50 yeah I concur with Director, the quick cut to Methode suggests that she had managed to close the gap with clone Fern based on where the dust was dissipating from. Whether she managed to restrained it or was about to get a full blast to the face is up for speculation.
The animation is kinda misleading. Methode knew fern was targeting her from behind, she let the clone think she didn't know about it. In the manga, she was chilling the entire time she was fighting the clone and didn't even break a sweat. Do not think she is weak. Methode can destroy fern in a fight.
6:30 - Ubel is just doing what all mages do, as explained in the previous episodes...magic is all about visualization, mages can't unleash spells with greater effect or potency that they can't visualize perfectly. Most mages visualize all the defensive magic imbued in the cloak or the hair, but Ubel doesn't think like a mage and instead thinks like a normal person...cloth and hair are things that can be cut, so Ubel visualizes them being cut, which will always bypass the magical barriers within the cloak or hair. Ubel isn't visualizing failing to cut through the barrier or even succeeding at cutting through the barrier, Ubel is visualizing cutting through cloth or hair. So more powerful mages than her wouldn't be able to get through the defenses, but Ubel can...meanwhile more powerful mages can get through a barrier like Wirbel's or Denken's, but Ubel can't. 16:30 - Fern hesitated because Fakeren gave her a look that put fear into Fern, she had never seen Frieren look like that and she became scared. The Demon King made Frieren unleash the pinnacle of magic, Fern made Fakeren turn all attention towards Fern and unleashed the pinnacle of magic against Fern.
You are absolutely right about the Fern power scaling sitch. People have to remember the rest of the Hero Party is there to cover vs the Demon King so she's got more wiggle room to work with... especially that Heiter was prolly sober 😂
i feel like ubel's cutting spell and the spell clone frieren casted on fern is the height of magic, a magic that gets stronger due to the caster's visual imagination. just how ubel thinks a cloth and hair is easy to cut to defeat the cloak guy and sense, and frieren underestimating fern thus she can subdue her easily
That's why Ubel is my GOAT😂. I remember thinking if they would show us her fight against Sense's clone in here, bc in the manga they didn't, and i know why: it wasn't even a fight, it was a completely annihilation. And her backstory too, really cool.
Richter had the same energy as Stark when that old man was like "I've nothing left to teach you," he's just not afraid to say it😂 damn, I feel bad for Lawine, thought she was gonna make it to the third round at least Serie was rlly talking facts when she said Demon King or human to kill Frieren, both pbly forced her into a corner
The last attack from fern in the last ep was blocked by the clone, this fight is a continuation. There are 2 more eps left. The animation with methode is kinda misleading. Methode knew fern was targeting her from behind, she let the clone think she didn't know about it. In the manga, she was chilling the entire time she was fighting the clone and didn't even break a sweat. Do not think she is weak. Methode can destroy fern in a fight.
22:16 Best part about the mimic scene is that there's another exposed mimic to the left that Fern clearly already had to remove her from, and she still got stuck in this one...
It's slightly confusing because its just picks up with spell casting but I am pretty sure this is a continuation of the fight. I feel like they should have replayed the shot with Fern blasting her at the end of last episode and showing that the clone blocked it or dodged or something. It's not a recap of the fight at all.
10:45 Look at the subtleties of Fern's rapidly changing expression. Do you see that brief smile mixed in with everything else? It gets drowned out by her other feelings, but you can still visually taste the hint of its aftertaste. I sound creepy for describing it like that because it's THAT subtle. They REALLY amped up the animation for this episode.
Don't doubt my girl Methode, I'm willing to argue and bet that she's the fourth strongest mage in this exam right after Frieren, Denken and Fern (I would even bet she's on par with the latter two).
Falling prey to a mimic after defeating the boss of a dungeon is gonna be written into the encyclopedia of Frieren's life. She's literally never living this down.
And Denkin thought he stood a chance. First time we see Frieren paying full attention to a fight - nope no way in hell was he gonna survive serious Frieren.
Like what Sense said, her mind doesnt works like normal human. Ubel have such simple yet sharp mind. Clothes, hair, and human body ARE meant to be cut, she don't even think about the defensive magic in it, she just see the 'shape'. She don't overthink, if she see the shape can be cut, than it will be cutted with ease. But that's also what makes Ubel cant or will have hard time in defeating Wirbel or Fern or Denken bcs they're using defensive magic in pure spell form. Ubel don't understand the "mechanism", she follows her feeling, that's why she cannot think/imagine to cut the shield from pure defensive magic.
that's so OP imagine in a world of magic how can you counter a spell that can't be recognized as magic😂 it's like the magic of the goddess but frierens height of magic spell you can't block or react to it, it's the force
Uble said she doesn't really get the basics of magic so i think she just doesn't understand why a cloth can't be cut , meanwhile everyone can understand this has crazy defens magic and cant imagine cutting it
Frieren's battle againts herself really reminds me of a wizard BR game called spellbreak, sadly its no longer available lol. But it was an epic concept, especislly durimg the last 1 v 1, just two mages floating, dashing around, throwing meteors, tornado, wind blades and shit lmao
A lot of people seem confused about what Frieren and Fern did to beat Frieren's replica. Basically, Fern shot off both of the replica's arms which made it use that "Almighty Push" type of spell that had something to do with it's eyes. Frieren said she hadn't use that spell for about 80 years which means at some point, she was unable to use her arms/staff to case spells as per usual and was forced to use that "Almighty Push" spell. While the replica was using it on Fern, that's when Frieren snuck it. It's much harder to understand in the sub version but that's the gist of it.
@19:20 The visualization isn't QUITE that simple. She wasn't imagining people were paper. She saw dude wearing a robe. "It's cloth, of course I can cut it."...... Then she saw Sense with her hair....."It's hair of course I can cut it". But the wall she just cut while talking to Denkin, she couldn't imagine cutting that deep, so she didn't. That's why its REALLY important that Kanne was said to be a blood bender in the first exam. Even though it was bullshit then, I don't believe it will be much longer. All she needs to do is read some medical books......
I believe in the manga and some translation of the anime when Sense say it's practically a superpower she instead say she's in the realm of genius which I think make Ubel potential so insanely high to me I think she maybe he could reach even higher ceiling then Fern because Ubel just recently become a mage without a master or if she had one we don't know who but Fern have been training in magic since she was a child train by Frieren herself and Ubel is this strong not only that she could take people spell so imagine Ubel in like 10 year with all the spell of a first class mage she would be insanely powerful
It’s more like she is delusional and doesn’t understand magic, just uses it off of vibes. If she could actually understand how defense magic manifested she couldn’t visualize cutting through it. As Sense said, her mind doesn’t work like a normal persons’
in this exam the rank was , 1. frieren , 2. sense 3.denken, 4.methode, 5.wirbel , 6.fern ,7. ubel , although ubel could kill sense easy but agains other she cant defeat them .
At least we now realized that Frieren is actually EXTREMELY powerful. Totally OP. I'm now excited how will they animate Frieren vs. Solitar together with Denken vs. Macht fights in the future, if they make S2 of this anime.
I wanted to see if that look changed the way you see Frieren? Before I thought she was definitely battle tested and one of the strongest ever but now I seen she has a badass killer side when she needs to get serious
Frieren makes me wish the magic in Mushoku Tensei was animated like this (especially in big fights). This show has some of the better magic battles I've seen in an anime.
It'd be really funny if Ubel's superpower is that she's just absolutely terrible at sensing magic. So everyone else is seeing that enchanted defensive cloak and going "How can I possibly defeat this magic?" while Ubel is just like "lmao. It's cloth. Just cut it, bro."
The weird thing is she is not even that crazy when compared to most crazy people we usually get. She doesn't go out of her way to kill people, she would if you give her a motive to do so lol

Correct: Frieren plus Fern forced Frieren clone to use that spell. Frieren clone VS Fern wouldn't be a fight, it would probably end in 1 second.
Ep 24,25: fern can defeat frieren
Ep26: proceeds to show how fern never stood a chance
@@dohalimilqarasdeldemenanci8483 to be fair, if everyone except frieren ganked on frieren clone, the fight probably end in 1 sec also.
@@apostleofd119 I never said otherwise. This comment was about Fern, Frieren and Frieren clone so I didn't mention anyone who didn't matter.
@@dohalimilqarasdeldemenanci8483"... Who didn't matter." 🥶
Just one thing to note. They didn't go back in time. Ferns attack from the end of last episode was blocked by the clone and the fight continued.
This
I don't know why they didn't animate it, but there's a panel in the manga that shows Clone Frieren blocking Fern's first Zoltraak shot, the one that ended last episode.
@@juanthegreat3954 I didn't realize that until your comment. That's actually really nice lmao. I love the golem even more now
From Ubel's "Magic is about visualization." to Fern's "This is the the height of magic." witnessing clone Frieren do unrecognizable spell that isn't really magic and knocked Fern off the wall without staff/hands.
This episode really put a whole new context to the phrase "If looks could kill."
@@Mayank_MJ I’m talking about Frieren blowing Fern away.
@@friedhotwings ah alright my bad. But btw, we know you can't use attack and defence spell at the same time, but if i remember correctly we saw frieren use both at the same time near the start of the anime, or is that my imagination
@@Mayank_MJyou can use defense and offense spells simultaneously
Frieren harnessing the power of the infinite cosmos while everybody else outside the vault is throwing rocks and water and shit. 💀
Frieren on different level shit
aaannnd now people are gonna overhype the hell out of frieren and underestimate everybody else lol. that's why I didn't like all the bullshit the anime team added to this fight. wtf was she even doing during that scene when a bunch of pretty colors were appearing on the screen and then it all broke down like glasses ? that didn't even make no sense and you can't comprehend what was happening either.
Frieren be like, “lll teach you just basic spells.” And then boom!! Throws a black hole at you 😅
@@boboyo3140 it depend on their mind since this series's characters had a lot interesting story. about underestimating other character maybe it's exaggeration, since Frieren and Serie already said it, Frieren is OP but still can be defeated.
I love Wirbel. He could be a main character in his show. The author has made many great side characters who have main character depth
Frieren must have found a grimoire called "Pushing enemies without using magic through death stare"
Ubel can't visualize cutting through magic shields because she uses magic shields herself. If she could visualize her own spells getting through magic shield then that would cause her own magic shield to become weaker and unable to stop enemy spells.
Fun fact for anyone who didn't pick this up:
During the little arc with Sein, it was stated that Curses aren't usually detected as magic by Mages, and curses are just demon/monster spells so advanced that mages don't understand them yet.
Fern didn't detect that attack as magic, implying frieren's clone was casting a curse. Frieren knows an actual demon curse and is choosing not to use it unless in dire emergency.
Technically it wasn't a curse, there was no disabling "status effect" applied to Fern. But you're right, it was not a human magic.
we don't know if that was a curse. frieren actually says during the Sein little arc that curses are monster/demon spells that can put people to sleep or petrify them. frieren's attack doesn't qualify as neither option. macht's gold magic is a curse because it can petrify you into gold. grausam's illusion magic is a curse because it can put you to sleep. frieren's attack didn't do anything like this, so it must not be a curse but something else entirely.
Maybe Frieren can do what Ubel can but only does so as a last resort? Visualize then materialize.
To use something from D&D, Epic Spell unlocked! XD
They explain that in this one, just that small sneak gap is not enough, thats why Frieren had to resort to letting herself get hurt so her replica puts her guard down some more
Ep 24,25 : fern can defeat frieren
Ep26: proceeds to show how fern never stood a chance
Except that's not what was said. She said fern could kill frieren which technically is true. All it takes is a sneak attack while she's fighting a willingness to die in the process.
Fern stopped firing and gave the clone a chance.

Moreover if fern didn't stoped firing attacks she still would have fired the spell she wanted. What else do u expect from a mage who fires spells without staff...

I love how Ubel's superpower is basically being too stupid to understand what she's doing is impossible, which makes it possible.
I think she knows, she just chooses to ignore and go against the grains
@@alexthai5223 No, she doesn't. As Land points out: She has no understanding of magic at all. No formal training and no booksmarts, as you'd say. She says she can't imagine cutting through a defensive barrier, but hair with multiple defensive spells is fair game to her. She's relying purely on instinct, and her imagination. She could cut through the proctor's cloak because she doesn't understand any of the spells he wove into the magic.

The way Methode is looking down on the floor looks like she already pinned down and beaten fern's replica before it even disappeared 🗿🗿🗿
Fern's style is not "Getting up close and personal". Fern's clone was clearly being restricted
@@dariaty859 I was thinking more of Methode finally getting close to the Fern clone but it was ready for her kind of scenario.
The last spell the copy used is probably the same spell that killed the demon general back in the flashback when she met Flamme.
I noticed frieren (clone) used the old/demon version of zoltrak

Edel is cool (Thats the girl talking to Richter at the end). Even though she lost she is so positive and actually excited for the golems... lol
i feel like ubel's cutting spell and the spell clone frieren casted on fern is the height of magic, a magic that gets stronger due to the caster's visual imagination. just how ubel thinks a cloth and hair is easy to cut to defeat the cloak guy and sense, and frieren underestimating fern thus she can subdue her easily
It was a continuation. On the previous episode, they were on the air. The clone just continuously blocked Fern’s sniper shots and just ignoring her.

22:16 Best part about the mimic scene is that there's another exposed mimic to the left that Fern clearly already had to remove her from, and she still got stuck in this one...
"I saw her get pressed up against the wall like the thicc girl at the party." lmao
Ubel offed that 1st class mage because she was clumsy💀
Don't doubt my girl Methode, I'm willing to argue and bet that she's the fourth strongest mage in this exam right after Frieren, Denken and Fern (I would even bet she's on par with the latter two).
damn now i wanna see the heroes party fighting the demon king
Falling prey to a mimic after defeating the boss of a dungeon is gonna be written into the encyclopedia of Frieren's life. She's literally never living this down.
What kind of troll ass devs put 3 mimics in a loot room after the boss???
And Denkin thought he stood a chance. First time we see Frieren paying full attention to a fight - nope no way in hell was he gonna survive serious Frieren.
Frieren be like, “lll teach you just basic spells.” And then boom!! Throws a black hole at you 😅
Like what Sense said, her mind doesnt works like normal human.
26 episode in I think everyone now want to be looked down upon by Fern.
This was the continuation of the fight not the beginning
A lot of people seem confused about what Frieren and Fern did to beat Frieren's replica. Basically, Fern shot off both of the replica's arms which made it use that "Almighty Push" type of spell that had something to do with it's eyes. Frieren said she hadn't use that spell for about 80 years which means at some point, she was unable to use her arms/staff to case spells as per usual and was forced to use that "Almighty Push" spell. While the replica was using it on Fern, that's when Frieren snuck it. It's much harder to understand in the sub version but that's the gist of it.
Not confused. It aired months ago
