@@crustybomb115 this anime drew me in when at the start nothing was happening and I was totally enjoying myself and it grew into the very best battle scenes I have ever seen in an anime. I wish the fights were longer at this point. They are 110% of what I would expect of a magic battle.

I love that "When you put the scissors down and just slide them through" explanation because it's so viscerally true. That sensation of when you get the scissors just right and they glide through what you're cutting is so gratifying! It made me immediately understand the character and how her magic works. She replicates that uniquely gratifying sensation for herself and it just works.
Also see Frieren implying that the last time she was pushed as hard as Fern pushed her duplicate was when she fought the Demon King 80 years ago.
The stare dopple-Frieren was using, I wonder if it was implying that she can use her emotions too! That force hold was probably sight based, just like Übel's skill.
Fern+Frieren.
They did a cool sort of twist because based on ep 25 we assumed Fern would be the one hitting Frieren replica with the killing blow. So we thought all of the talk of replica Frieren leaving herself wide open was for Fern to attack. But all along Frieren knew Fern wouldn't be able to actually land a killing blow on her and she was really just waiting for replica to launch a desperate counter attack on Fern that would incapacitate Fern but leave herself wide open for Frieren to finish her off.
The time for Frieren to be killed by a human mage is close, but it isn't here yet.
You can see why Frieren said: Sure if more of us fight doppel-me, we will win, but some of us will die. Because Frieren AoE spells are no joke.
But I can't help wishing some of the others could have have at least observed it. You think you're hot stuff - check this out!

its funny how majority didnt believe ubel could beat sense, the moment she said she could beat her i could already tell she would be able to cut through her hair.
even ritcher and frieren mentioned it before, magic requires imagination. if ubel is able to copy spells by empathizing i had no doubt she could cut through any spells. she is a problem
She can’t cut through most spells, actually. If it takes the form of physical stuff, she can do it no problem, no matter the magic. But if it’s pure magic, she can’t cut even basic barriers. Because the same way that cloth or hair are meant to be cut, barriers are meant to stop magic. That’s why weibel beats her without much problem. Ubel isn’t unbeatable by any chance, just a really good matchup against sense.
When Frieren said “it’s been about 80 years since I was forced to use that.” She probably had to use that against the demon king, so Fern was so strong, she made dopple-Frieren use the trump card that Frieren used against the demon king.
Yep. It's been 30 years since Himmel died and 50 years before that was when their journey ended so it was a spell she used against the Demon King.
frieren + fern. Fern is nowhere near strong enough for frieren to even consider using anything other than zoldrak.

@@reignmans obv frieren is stronger, I dont really like how people are saying fern could kill her, especially since it took FRIEREN to let fern even have a chance of killing her clone, one day maybe since fern is basically learning what frieren is doing, faster than frieren herself is learning but people forgetting that frieren has the knowledge of magic that dates back a thousand years, fern cant possibly learn a thousand years worth of magic in her lifetime. Anyways on the point of the date, it does match the time when the demon king was killed but it could be anyone since even the demon king attendants were strong enough to make frierens old party run away

Zoltraak is now "demon killing magic" so it's not as effective as overwhelming attacks, like Fern said - it's ordinary offensive magic. Or like Frieren likes to do is get up close and as Danny Devito is famous for saying on Always Sunny "I just started blastin'"

I could be wrong but I think that attack the copy used on Fren is what brought down the demon king, since it was 50 years since Frienen had used it.

Looks to be something like a pure mana force attack, without forming into a spell. Really fking cool.
Most likely, he used it against the demon king but not the one who defeated him, (spoiler) if you think Frieren is strong, wait until you see his rivals.
I'd like to point out that whatever the doppelganger was doing to Fern, it wasn't permitted to complete. So Fern (and the audience) only got a taste of the heights that Frieren is capable of.
It's kinda similar to the spell she used on the brink of death when flamme first saw her, same damage and look on that demon general
imo frieren is like at the peak of anime but at the same time i also consider it to be the base standard... stories should have this much care and thought to how they are told

we dont know at what point in her "career" she lost to humans. she is obviously way stronger now.
Qual was a super genious (he literally figured out the defensive spell, its weakness and how to fight against it a couple of minutes after he woke up after being sealed for 80 years)

The humans that defeated Frieren were already dead. As what Frieren told Fern, basic magic is enough to defeat human mage in this current era.
By the way, it's pronounced like "Zen-Ze" and is German for scythe.
You shouldn't do advice on pronunciation, because Sense is not pronounced "Zen-Ze".

it is closer but still not even close enough. A "Z" has in English the sizzling *z* in it like in zoo, just lesser verbalized. Sense is pretty complex for it is in International Phonetic Alphabet: [ˈzɛnzə] and has two slightly different "s" sounds in it, which makes "Zen-Ze" a bad way to explain it.
Take the zoo "Z" and pack it into Sense this sounds so awful. But sure go ahead and encourage awfulness.
IF you wanna give pronounciation advice then Sense is vocalized for the "Sen" part like "s" in the english word "sending" IPA: [ˈsendɪŋ] and the "se" parts "s" in the british english word "search" IPA: britisch [səːt͡ʃ] not the american IPA: US-amerikanisch [sɜː(ɹ)t͡ʃ]!

Laufen says she understands that feeling because she also knew that Frieren was baiting her in the first test but she still went for the gamble anyways to try and save Denken where she then got trapped. Basically same thing as Frieren constantly going for the 1% gacha on mimic chests.
I think it was more of a feeling of disbelief of how they could lose to someone that falls for such obvious traps
So far, the 5 strongest test-takers should be:
1. Frieren
2. Denken
3. Methode
4. Fern
5. Wirbel
I don't follow the manga, but it seems to me that Fern should rank above Denken. Frieren basically just used basic spells to defeat him. And when it comes to basic spells, Fern is capable of casting them even faster than Frieren. With that logic, Fern can repeat the feat that Frieren has done if Denken doesn't know her strengths beforehand.
Frieren beat Denken also by outlasting him Mana-wise. Fern likely would not have had the Mana reserve to repel that wind-fire combo Denken cast at Frieren, which required Frieren to use a mana-costly 360 shell, and keep it up for a pretty long time. In the training session we saw before they faced Qual, Fern couldn’t keep up a 360 shield for even half as long as that.
Plus, Denken’s Catastravia is just as rapid a spam attack as Fern’s Zoltrak-47.

@@beatrizoliveira9344 I don't know and I don't think anyone can confidently say who would win in a one-on-one match between Fern and any of the mages you mentioned. Wirbel can easily lock any of them right off the moment they encounter but his mana detection can't detect Fern and Denken if they know his ability beforehand and choose to take the guerrilla approach. Denken can be defeated if he gets hit by a single Zoltrak shot (just like in a match against Frieren), and Zoltrak is second nature to Fern, she also possesses a higher level of mana control, or at least on par with Denken, just like Frieren, she has been concealing her mana all her life.

Yeah. Methode is a hard counter to Fern. She’s good enough at mana detection to sense Fern coming, and she has that ability that reflects an opponent’s attack spell back at them, which neutralizes Fern’s Zoltrak-47 spam. Plus she’s just far more battle experienced and knows a much bigger range of versatile combat spells.
If Fern's replica had a shiv it would have been over for a lot of them 😂

Everyone said the last episode was peak, and this one exceeded it. And before that it was the episode before that, which was exceeded. This anime just gets better and better. Maybe there is no peak? Though the next episode will probably be a cooldown one in terms of action.

STOP OVER HYPING FERN. She's just freiren's apprentice and that doest mean she's more powerful than most of the human mages. There's still mages that are far stronger than her.
Sense is stronger than fern and ubel is counter of sense so this means methode can defeat fern. Methode is stronger than fern. Shes versitile and observes her enemies shes my mommy methode❤. You cant change my mind. All she can do is defense, attack magic and conceal her presence whereas methode analizes situations in battlefield. Thats why i like the mechanics of magic in this world because stronger maged(mana) can be defeated by weaker ones. Just like what freiren said she cant imagine defeating kanne during the rain.

@@ryanlarkin9783 dont forget she was already training zoltraak and mana suppression before even meeting frieren, at so young age the first thing Frieren said is she could barely detect her mana and thats without an extremely specialized tutor to teach her. Heiter had her practicing already.
Mana suppression and detection at this point is probly as natural to her as breathing. So it's nothing crazy in the grand scheme of things.

You guys underestimate Metode too much. I fell like the anime minimized it a bit, but she beat Fern’s replica alone off-screen, and it didn’t feel like it was even hard in the manga. Also, Ubel doesn’t only think about cutting all the time, it’s the opposite. She doesn’t think too much at all. If it’s something that normally should be possible to cut, she can cut it. She goes by feeling.
Ah, the “only use zoltrack” thing is for Fern, not Frieren. She’s not even that used to zoltrack yet, since she only learned it in the last part of her adventure with Himmel, that’s not her signature. She trained Fern to use it, not herself. For Frieren, it’s the exact opposite: she’s extremely versatile. She’s super old, of course, and her master created more spells than anyone in history.
From the first time she appears I liked her.
Übel is absolutely the MVP of this episode. Her voice actress nailed her performance more than most the fanboys want to nail Übel.

author wrote himself into a corner bringing Sense into this.... so he had to bs that ubel vs Sense fight to get senses copy out of the way.
Sense has the knowledge of Ubels skills, she is kind of afraid of it.... so the copy should also know that and keep kiting. You play your advantage and fight from a distance creating space between you and ubel. But somehow the copy forgot about it and decided to go into Ubels range to conveniently get cut.
well we dont know how long the fight was as most of it was skipped, but ubels magic is simple so theres not much sense can do if her hair just keeps getting cut lol
On the contrary, because Sense already lost the mental battle against Übel years ago, not being able to imagine herself ever beating her because Übel is a complete counter to her special magic and makes it completely useless, there is no way her replica can defeat Übel.
Also you say they wrote themselves into a corner but Sense's replica only became a real threat in this very episode because she couldn't be found, if they knew where she was, they could have planned for her but with her ambushing them there was nothing to do. What you call "writing themselves into a corner" and it being resolved literally were in the same chapter.
