The manga creator and the anime staff are clearly people of culture. We've got Midriff-chan, China Dress-chan, Yandere-chan, Mommy Methode, and now Feet-chan.
@@grillmeoutofhere2128 i mean we already kinda saw it. The golems from the second exam was from him, and physical power and healing magic of them is insane
This is one of those things I am not too sure about. Because as we already know for a mage visual imagination is quite important. And Lernen couldn't seem to even imagine being capable enough to test Frieren, and as such likely also couldn't imagine defeating her. Serie also doesn't come off as the type of person you should trust in regard to her views about Frieren because she is very biased. And she has been wrong before, like she didn't think Flamme could achieve her dreams, nor did she think Frieren could defeat the demon king. I mean, when you think about it... the two mages Serie disagrees with the most in regards to their views, are also the mages that have caused the most change in the world and accomplished things she didn't expect could be accomplished.
19:46 it kinda shows what they were talking about, humans grow/evolve fast af . the other guy spent his whole life training and only at the end of his life can he tell frieren is hiding her mana , meanwhile fern is basically at the start of her life and already surpassed him (in that part at least) , thats just 1-2 generations of humas
the difference between the two is that Fern has spend the majority of her life practicing being able to tell the fluctuations in suppressed mana whereas we have no indication that Lernen has done that
i love the nuances in this show, like how frieren is inexperienced for her age due to specializing in an inefficient skill but at the same time that inefficient skill is making her enemies miscalculate which could end in their defeat so it kind of balances out. that being said one day frieren might encounter a fight where she's gonna need more than her enemies miscalculating her strength in order to win, for that i'm excited
Ironically Frieren being in the exam was more of an obstacle than anything. Denken, Methode and co. probably reach the Spiegel themselves if it was any other clone but Frieren's guarding it, or at least when Ubel catches up.
series like this (especially with character who contradict a lot like serie), 86,heavenly delusion etc that do a lot of "don't tell, show" let me can really see which reactor can read between the line and actually pay attention to what is showing rather than only the dialouge in the anime. You guys are one of my mainstay whenever there is show that require a lot of observation like this. Not every of your guess and theory is right but it's super amusing to see what you guys come up with.
now it makes sense why Himmel KNEW what the Mirrored Lotus meant, since he fell in love with the Flower spell Serie, although we do not have to take what she says at face value, says that she will not overlook Fern for being a capable mage, but is willing to be petty towards Frieren despite her being the most capable among them AND THE REASON WHY THEY ALL PASSED in the first place. GodLevelTsuntsun
Hollyhood needs to take notes because this is how you right powerful female characters. The author did it so effortlessly it's insane. Frieren, Fren and Serie are so well written and interesting, makes me want to binge the manga immediately .
History has been made, Frieren is my personal #1 favorite anime of all time. If there are more seasons that are as consistent as this, I can't imagine what could possibly dethrone it.
Probably the petty AoT fans or the anime "boomers" who might give it a low score just to make FMAB on top again, but I completely agree with you - Frieren is one TOP tier anime in every aspect
@@Senji-Ch. I love Frieren and it's definitely a top tier anime so far, but AoT is also one of the greatest shows in terms of story, writing, and characters. If you really have to dislike certain communities or fans then you need to talk about fans of overrated shows like One Piece, JJk, Demon slayers, etc, because in these communities where I found plenty of people that called Frieren boring.
Pretty much the reason I stuck with you guys. Other channels like yaboyroshi, yeah, they are fun, but it's also frustrating because they tend to not understand and sometimes massively misinterpret stuff (Tokyo Revengers was HORRIBLE in that regard) You guys tho, not only are you fun to watch, you actually make an effort to not only enjoy, but also understand what you're watching (because for you, that's probably part of actually enjoying it), and I like that, a lot. This is pretty much the only reaction channel where I watch the parts before and after the reaction, because I can actually take you guys seriously Much love, you're all amazing
Not talking about you guys (already saying before someone accuse me of LMAO) but for the people thinking it was "unfair" Serie to fail them, here's who Serie is, and WHY i think she has every right to do whatever she wants 😂: *she has been here before human began civilization *she was THE ONE who started teaching magic to humans *she was Flamme's teacher, the core of human mages *she is LITERALLY THE ONE who created the magic association, so the test is hers as well *she's the one who's gonna give them the spells they want *she is compared to a freaking GODDESS *her intuition is always right *This is the one for me: in FRIEREN'S OWN WORDS, not mine -> "even i can't picture myself beating her at all. There is no doubt she reigns supreme over all human mages of this era. She is beyond human's comprehension" *basically, if it wasn't for her, THIS SHOW WOULDN'T EVEN EXIST in the first place
@nicerium6247 EEhh to be fair though, the only reason Frieren trained to supress her mana was specifically to kill demons. It's not really that Frieren "uses magic in a way to bring happiness", no, she specifically trained for centuries to **kill** demons. The issue is that she could've spent that time learning and training to become a better mage in general. She could've been a far better mage if she spent the same amount of time training in magic as she did supressing her mana. In essence, Frieren went about killing demons in the least efficient way possible, and for what? Serie was basically saying she could've been able to kill demons just as easily, if not easier, WHILE being a better mage than she is now.
I mean, none of that really counters the fact that her test is unfair. It's just explaining why she gets away with being unfair. Serie herself acknowledges that Frieren is more than qualified for 1st class, but she fails her simply because she expects more from her.
@nicerium6247 idk if you noticed that, but without Serie -> No mage to humans -> No Flamme -> No Frieren, so....yeah. Serie's haters will always try to diminish her importance in the story, but nah...she IS that important, liking it or not.
@@shadowkeepertienga23 Well yeah, you just said why Serie isn't really being unfair. Frieren herself said that Serie's intuition is never wrong. The reason why Serie failed Frieren is because she just isn't really fully making use of the talent she has. Why bother making someone a first class mage if they don't even have the ambition to try and achieve more?
Serie's fluctuations of mana means she is also restraining her mana like Frieren. What we can learn in this episode is Frieren's full mana is equal to Serie's suppressed mana..
Heiter noticed Frieren was suppressing her mana because they had traveled together for years. While Lernen was unable to notice that Serie was suppressing her mana even after 50 years, which disappointed her. Yet Fern was able to spot the fluctuation at first glance.
It wasn't that Serie didn't need to test them, it was that she was testing them by displaying a high amount of her mana towards them, even with it being suppressed to see their reactions to her mana. If they hesitated or showed any fear, then Serie saw them as unworthy and unqualified to be a first class mage, because there are demons with just as much mana as she was releasing and first class mages have to be strong willed in order to defeat them. Frieren isn't scared of Serie's mana at all, but Frieren doesn't view magic the way Serie wants so Serie spites her...Fern is used to high levels of mana, but she isn't used to seeing such a high level suppressed with fluctuations so she was perplexed by the fluctuations...all the people that were shown to have failed, they all were hesitant to go forward in the face of Serie's mana and so Serie saw them as the ones which would not have passed the exam were it not for Frieren being there.
Serie is such a hypocrite, though (in a good way). She refers to the flower field spell as "ridiculous magic", yet it would end up being the very thing that not only brought Frieren together with the likes of Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen, but indirectly brought about the demise of the Demon Lord, the latter than Serie, despite being a battle mongrel insistent on magic being used for authority and power, was unable to do. Additionally, she also referred to Frieren's practicing and refining of mana suppression as a big waste of time, YET she herself was suppressing mana in practically the exact same fashion to where only Fern of all people noticed it (not even her own apprentices were able to). She's someone full of contradictions in her words, which funny enough make her feel more human than she would openly admit. If that isnt a great way of writing a character like that, idk what else better is.
I understand some people misunderstanding the last fight. They hyped shameless for 2 episodes that Fern could killer her 😂 maybe at her peak, but this will be in about 50 years 😅
Lernen is voiced by Atsushi Miyauchi who also voices Director Bear (Reborn as a Vending Machine), Niji (One Piece), Raphead (Helck), Ash (Metallic Rouge), Shinpei (Boogiepop & Others), Cioccolata (JoJo), Lich the Eddie (Bastard!!), Richard & Mamuro (Ghost in the Shell franchise), Inaniwa Jr., Sergio, & Daidoji (Lupin the 3rd franchise), & many more. Eng dub is Kent Williams who also voices Tao, Dr. Gero, Supreme Kai, & others (Dragon Ball), Akisame (Kenichi), Father (Fullmetal Alchemist), Kuro, Shura, Professor Clover, Fossa, Hack, Momonga, Raoul, & Scorpion (One Piece), Compress (My Hero Academia), Byakuya (Dr.Stone), Hatori (Fruits Basket), Jura (Fairy Tail), Alastor (Shakugan no Shana), Rigurd (Slime), Judge (Ace Attorney), Mao (Darker Than Black), Sid (Soul Eater), Soichi (Baka & Test), Rob (Duke of Death), Akihiko (Uzaki-chan), Cavi (SpyxFamily), Gustav (Baccano), Arata (Zombie Land Saga), & many more
Serie's intuition is never wrong, when she uses it, which she does not where Frieren is concerned. She's totally biased against her and as Frieren said, would fail her no matter what she said. And Frieren couldn't care less: Serei: "You fail" Frieren: "No f**ks given grandma."

I am not surprised over the background images from this episode. 👀
fern has such massive potential. One of the test proctor couldn’t detect frierens suppressed mana -> the old man who has been a first class mage for 50 years first to detect frieren’s mana since the big bad demon king -> same old mage couldn’t detect series suppressed mana -> fern instantly sees series fluctuation
Remember how Serie said for those that lack talent, concealing your Mana Level where you can fool demons would take a century or two of practice (Which humans don't have and thus why its impractical for them to do so.) Keep in mind two human mages that were talented enough to learn how to hide their Mana while they were young. Flamme and Fern. Basically Fern right now still has a way to go but she could become the next Flamme. Of the current test takers the strongest people other than Freiren are probably Denkin and Methode. For the record Freiren herself in terms of skill is a relatively average mage, she just has a shit ton of Mana because she's an Elf and knows a lot of spells, but her Mana control (Barring her hide her Mana skill) is relatively mid (The First Class Mage Protactors and Fern could hide their Mana and walk around with a Stille bird while Frieren has to remain motionless.) She also drops her scanning Mana while attacking. (Which is considered a rookie mistake.) Basically she stomps anyone not in her weight class, but anyone close to her weight class with good technique could beat her. (Lauren that old man probably still has less Mana than Frieren but he has a chance to defeat her because he's probably more skilled as Serie said.) Lauren is the guy that recognized Frieren's old Emblem in the beginning of the arc to let her in, AND he designed the escape Golems BTW.
Yeaaaaaa ..... All the people she failed she basically saved their lives. Because you cant just fake being a first class like you can lying on a resume😂😂😂.
Serie is just like a tough super-grandma. She is upset with her overachieving "daughter" Flamme not having visited her in life but left a bunch of obligations for her to fulfill at her death. And she's upset with her "granddaughter" Frieren for having potential to be great at school if she only studied harder, but wanting to just chill and hang out with tattooed bikers. But she loved them anyway. She loved all of them. You will see in the next episode. Even Lernen (she called her "that boy," like she called Flamme "that girl" - she called all humans "those children"), she was only giving him the tiger-mom parent passive-aggressive "push" by expressing disappointment for the child to be shamed into performing better. She wanted him to be more courageous and stop being timid and humble, traits she dislikes - and in the next episode you will see that she's successful in that. She expected Frieren to be strong enough to solo the Demon King. Although Frieren did anyway, that was by trick and not by skill, and her trick didn't work against the big boss, and she had to do it with a party; that's why Serie remained disappointed in her. The final interview question was like "one more chance: do you promise to study hard now" with an answer of "no I like hanging out with bikers they're cool YOLO" Note that the anime has introduced a contrast: when Fern was upset with Frieren at the beginning of the episode, Richter asked her whether she was Frieren's student and she was silent and Stark had to answer for her. But after Frieren fixed her staff and she realized Frieren really cared for her, she said to Serie loud and proud that she was Frieren's student.
Funny, there are still people who think Frieren has the slightest chance to beat serie. Sorry to break your dream but serie can kill all of them by snapping her fingers. She is not only a living grimoire knowing almost every spell ever existed She is also closest to the goddess.
Every one Series failed at the third test, this show has already established why they aren't quite at First Class Mage level yet: Kanne -- Poor at mana detection, cannot tell there were Corpse Birds flying around during the first test. Frieren had to save her from being ambushed by one of them. She (and Lawine) cannot see the mana leaking out of fully suppressed Frieren when she waved her arms. They also cannot see that Frieren stops her mana detection whenever she cast a spell. Her magic is also useless without water. Dunst (mustache man) -- He passed the second test by running to the main group and sought their protection. He doesn't have good combat magic especially inside a dungeon. Laufen -- Ignored Denken's warning on Frieren when it should be obvious, and got caught. Denken has said several times her mana control is still lacking. Also, her Clone was beaten relatively easily by others. Scharf -- Poor at mana detection. Cannot tell Land was using a clone and got defeated in an ambush. Always runs out of mana and needs Wirbel to float him. Ehre -- Fern defeated her using basic offensive magic. Always runs out of mana and needs Wirbel to carry her. Frieren -- Too much beef with Serie in the past. Admits herself she hasn't lived up to Serie's expectations.
I was wondering how other people reacted to the feet thing lol. (tho past-me wouldn't have wondered this maybe 3 years before.) edit: I fuken knew someone was going to be out there having a suppresed version of their mana still be large af. Tho I wonder if there's a reason she makes it that large unlike Frieren's or maybe there's a suppression limit once your mana reserves get too large.
People who haven't been shown in exam three - Denken, Methode, Ubel, Land Ubel is too crazy to be scared and very good at visualization. Land has no reason to be scared if he's not even there in person. Methode has excellent mana sensing, so she might pass for the same reason as Fern. Denken never gives up and is wiling to box for that certification. He's got an old man's courage - he's not gonna live long anyway, so YOLO. Edit: I forgot Wirbel. Given that he can freeze someone with a glance, I doubt he'd be intimidated by a single enemy who doesn't know what he can do.
Ubel will be unbothered by Series' mana given her personality. Her perception of magic and how she uses magic by visualization will definitely intrigues Serie in letting her pass. Methode seems like an experienced mage. She knows how to keep calm and compose even the graveness of situation so I guess she won't be intimidated by Series' mana. Denken given his title as an imperial mage will surely makes Serie question his capability to be a first class mage. Wirbel on the other hand much like Denken he's also in position as Captain of the Magic Corps and has been through tremendous challenges in battlefield so I think Serie will acknowledge that fact.
Wirbel likely can't restrain Frieren, let alone Serie due to the difference in their mana. Serie sees magic as a tool for warfare, and Ubel and Wirbel fit this mindset. Denken may not be the kind of mage that Serie is looking for, but he has nothing to lose.
I haven´t read the manga but my prediction is Methode will pass, I don´t remember if Serie failed Denken but if not, Denken is another one who pass. I'm surprised at how resourceful Methode is, and no one makes a big deal on how she fights, heals, detects mana, hypnotize, paralyze and so on.
Good shit fellas! I’m with y’all,Richter is such a dickhead and he even threatened to kill the girls in the first test but I just can’t dislike his character I don’t know what it is😂
Yeah that's pretty much for every character even the demons. They all have great grounded writing and dialogue without any over the top tropes. It makes them feel real and believable.
you said it well...without the over the top tropes and good dialogue, many of these characters are just likeable. Doesn't matter what team they are on..they are sensible and serious about this...even the 2 girls i forget their names, but they goof off together but they take the missions serious while providing some comic relief@@lacins
Poor Lerner, that old man is probably the most powerful human mage we've seen so far (not counting Flamme) and the poor guy probably spends all his time getting bullied by Serie for not being even more talented or for simply getting older.🥲
I don't think Serie bullies him because he's not more talented. Serie seems disappointed because Lernen is too doesn't have much confidence in his own abilities and puts himself down all the time and can't live up to his potential, with magic in this anime being about visual imagination. Serie herself said that he could beat Frieren.

That’s if what Frieren showed aura was her full mana. There’s a few hints in the manga that she’s still hiding more
The manga creator and the anime staff are clearly people of culture. We've got Midriff-chan, China Dress-chan, Yandere-chan, Mommy Methode, and now Feet-chan.
Feet-chan lol
If Serie says Lernen could somehow defeat Frieren, I'm gonna trust her.
This old man is scarier than he looks.
All old men in anime are scarier than they look.
Next episode, just a glimpse of it~
@@grillmeoutofhere2128 i mean we already kinda saw it. The golems from the second exam was from him, and physical power and healing magic of them is insane
@@kavirus indirectly, yes~
Frieren is that smurf who carries the whole team 🤣
Ironically Frieren being in the exam was more of an obstacle than anything. Denken, Methode and co. probably reach the Spiegel themselves if it was any other clone but Frieren's guarding it, or at least when Ubel catches up.
The Frieren clone was the ELO system kicking in when things were going too well.
series like this (especially with character who contradict a lot like serie), 86,heavenly delusion etc that do a lot of "don't tell, show" let me can really see which reactor can read between the line and actually pay attention to what is showing rather than only the dialouge in the anime. You guys are one of my mainstay whenever there is show that require a lot of observation like this. Not every of your guess and theory is right but it's super amusing to see what you guys come up with.
Thank you Nano

I love that whenever there's a new foot shot in the episode it becomes the background🤣
Lol.
now it makes sense why Himmel KNEW what the Mirrored Lotus meant, since he fell in love with the Flower spell
Serie, although we do not have to take what she says at face value, says that she will not overlook Fern for being a capable mage, but is willing to be petty towards Frieren despite her being the most capable among them AND THE REASON WHY THEY ALL PASSED in the first place.
GodLevelTsuntsun
I missed Adorkable for this episode... Guys, this show is amazing!!!
btw, last thing, you are thinking of Methode (at the end).
Hollyhood needs to take notes because this is how you right powerful female characters. The author did it so effortlessly it's insane. Frieren, Fren and Serie are so well written and interesting, makes me want to binge the manga immediately .
Denken, Ubel, Methode, Land, and Wirbel have yet to do the third test for reference
Me at the start of the video: "WHAT IS THIS BACKGROU- ... oooh they're gonna like this episode..."
Lee doing Adorkable’s intro gives me life 😂😂😂
History has been made, Frieren is my personal #1 favorite anime of all time. If there are more seasons that are as consistent as this, I can't imagine what could possibly dethrone it.
Best teacher 😂
Probably the petty AoT fans or the anime "boomers" who might give it a low score just to make FMAB on top again, but I completely agree with you - Frieren is one TOP tier anime in every aspect

Chill. There's is a lot of greatness not getting adaptation yet
11:11 bro got distracted at the feet animation Lmao 🤣

My man saw a little bit of toes wiggling and switch side. I saw the background change.
Frieren didn't get the certification but she got the satisfaction of telling Serie how that "useless" spell saved the world.

Pretty much the reason I stuck with you guys. Other channels like yaboyroshi, yeah, they are fun, but it's also frustrating because they tend to not understand and sometimes massively misinterpret stuff (Tokyo Revengers was HORRIBLE in that regard)
You guys tho, not only are you fun to watch, you actually make an effort to not only enjoy, but also understand what you're watching (because for you, that's probably part of actually enjoying it), and I like that, a lot.
This is pretty much the only reaction channel where I watch the parts before and after the reaction, because I can actually take you guys seriously
Much love, you're all amazing
Not talking about you guys (already saying before someone accuse me of LMAO) but for the people thinking it was "unfair" Serie to fail them, here's who Serie is, and WHY i think she has every right to do whatever she wants 😂:
*she has been here before human began civilization
*she was THE ONE who started teaching magic to humans
*she was Flamme's teacher, the core of human mages
*she is LITERALLY THE ONE who created the magic association, so the test is hers as well
*she's the one who's gonna give them the spells they want
*she is compared to a freaking GODDESS
*her intuition is always right
*This is the one for me: in FRIEREN'S OWN WORDS, not mine -> "even i can't picture myself beating her at all. There is no doubt she reigns supreme over all human mages of this era. She is beyond human's comprehension"
*basically, if it wasn't for her, THIS SHOW WOULDN'T EVEN EXIST in the first place
When were the 2nd and 2nd to last points stated? I don't remember those.
That’s what the episode said….lol
Serie caught you lackin' on that rewind, fr XD
Lmfao
Looking forward to see how Ubel does...
Heiter noticed Frieren was suppressing her mana because they had traveled together for years.
While Lernen was unable to notice that Serie was suppressing her mana even after 50 years, which disappointed her.
Yet Fern was able to spot the fluctuation at first glance.
Good point

Serie's intuition is never wrong, when she uses it, which she does not where Frieren is concerned. She's totally biased against her and as Frieren said, would fail her no matter what she said.
And Frieren couldn't care less:
Serei: "You fail"
Frieren: "No f**ks given grandma."
I am not surprised over the background images from this episode. 👀
PLEASE STOP THE INTRO WAS SO CUTEEEEE ❤️❤️❤️❤️
fern has such massive potential. One of the test proctor couldn’t detect frierens suppressed mana -> the old man who has been a first class mage for 50 years first to detect frieren’s mana since the big bad demon king -> same old mage couldn’t detect series suppressed mana -> fern instantly sees series fluctuation
18:20 The one with the mind spells?
18:25 🤦
Of course.
I love the Freren background wallpaper bros lol beautiful! ❤ Subscribed!
Remember how Serie said for those that lack talent, concealing your Mana Level where you can fool demons would take a century or two of practice (Which humans don't have and thus why its impractical for them to do so.)
Keep in mind two human mages that were talented enough to learn how to hide their Mana while they were young.
Flamme
and
Fern.
(Which is considered a rookie mistake.)
Basically she stomps anyone not in her weight class, but anyone close to her weight class with good technique could beat her. (Lauren that old man probably still has less Mana than Frieren but he has a chance to defeat her because he's probably more skilled as Serie said.)
Lauren is the guy that recognized Frieren's old Emblem in the beginning of the arc to let her in, AND he designed the escape Golems BTW.
FEET
The way richter act, he would pass sarie test, so sad he failed the second test
Yeaaaaaa ..... All the people she failed she basically saved their lives. Because you cant just fake being a first class like you can lying on a resume😂😂😂.
9:00 I doubt it was even 4 seconds 😂😂
Himmel seeing Frieren do magic is equivalent to MagicalRevo’s Anis watching Euphy do magic
The final interview question was like "one more chance: do you promise to study hard now" with an answer of "no I like hanging out with bikers they're cool YOLO"
Note that the anime has introduced a contrast: when Fern was upset with Frieren at the beginning of the episode, Richter asked her whether she was Frieren's student and she was silent and Stark had to answer for her.
She is not only a living grimoire knowing almost every spell ever existed
She is also closest to the goddess.
Frieren is too humble
But she didn't lie. She was only able to do it because she had a party with 3 other MONSTERS who were all insanely powerful on her side.
@@boboyo3140 that does not change the fact that she is humble. She could have said many things to serie, but recognized how blessed she was
@@matthewk320 I didn't say she wasn't humble. she's humble... and realistic too.
Feel no shame my brother in arms. I had to rewind it couple times ones the Serie toes stole the scene. Kept failing to read. 😂

Everyone’s reaction to this episode: 🤤🦶😂
Prank' em Fern
Laufen failed the test but she got a rich grandfather who buys her food and will surely leave her a lot of money... So, did she really lost? 🤔
Every one Series failed at the third test, this show has already established why they aren't quite at First Class Mage level yet:
Kanne -- Poor at mana detection, cannot tell there were Corpse Birds flying around during the first test.
(tho past-me wouldn't have wondered this maybe 3 years before.)
edit: I fuken knew someone was going to be out there having a suppresed version of their mana still be large af. Tho I wonder if there's a reason she makes it that large unlike Frieren's or maybe there's a suppression limit once your mana reserves get too large.
Haha
*Small spoiler*
Lernen is very strong.
Of course 😅
Ubel should pass as she one shot Sense's copy
Serie's feet
🙏🙏🙏
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Frieren max output mana lv = Serie suppressed state
The fact that Serie went from, "I should've never taken a human student and y'all suck" to "Fern, you interest me, join me." Is craaaaaazy
flunctuating is not equal to suppressing, i think you misunderstood that one.
these guys keep on saying 'yoooooooo' like everything is a revelation lol wtf is this
Foot Goat Tsundere Serie.
People who haven't been shown in exam three - Denken, Methode, Ubel, Land
Ubel is too crazy to be scared and very good at visualization.
By all rights Ubel would’ve passed last time had she not packed up ol boy 😂
@@tommygunn704 The time she killed the proctor was for the second class mage test though, not first class.
