This is the true spirit of northern California. Best portrayed here by one of the iconic band from that area. Talking about Neil Cassady on the road. Nice job Pat.
They have literally made the best music ever!!! Pat, Tom, John, and all the members that have been a part of this group are sensational. Words can’t describe it. Experience it once in concert and you will forever follow them!
America's most versatile and durable rock band! Damn, they are wonderful. A gift to American rock music for 50+ years! Fandango is one of the Doobies best tunes, here played to perfection.
These guys sure got lucky when John McFee joined. Rhythm & lead guitar; Delta blues slide style; keyboards; steel guitar; banjo; percussion. An amazing player, he really adds a lot to this band.
Mine too guys. Live is great. I recently listened to the studio with fresh ears. Can hear them pull in the Dead with the opening bass riffle, Poco/Eagles/FBBs with the pedal steel, the Allman or other Brothers keyboard and lead guitar and Marshall Tucker esque chord changes and Toy Caldwell like guitar riffs. DBs rule the American Classic Rock Genre.
Well, a travelin' man's affliction makes it hard to settle down But I'm stuck here in the flatlands while my heart is homeward bound Goin' back, I'm too tired to roam, Loma Prieta my mountain home On the hills above Santa Cruz, in the place where I spent my youth Well it was Neal Cassady that started me to travelin' All the stories that were told, I believed them every one And it's a windin' road I'm on you understand And no time to worry 'bout tomorrow when you're followin' the sun Papa don't you worry now and mama don't you cry Sweet woman don't forsake me, I'll be comin' by and by Goin' back, I'm too tired to roam, Loma Prieta my mountain home On the hills above Santa Cruz, in the place where I spent my youth
Saw them four times in the late 70s without the backup musicians. Good keyboards here and the addition of the extra guys really adds to the band. Another excellent concert. These guys deserve their amazing 45 year run.
Great driving beat with everybody locked in on that pulse of that snare and riding along the bass groove. And then in the outro starting around 3:02 they just are playing around the pulse. I always wished they'd just jam for another few minutes there. I guess that's what makes it so special, they leave you wanting more ;)
The days of my youth, my parents taking us to Big Basin State Park above Santa Cruz. Salamanders and Banana slugs in the creeks. Then off to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for more fun.
I. JUST REALIZED THAT PAT SIMMONS WROTE MOST OF THE DOOBIE BROTHERS SONGS, NOW, ADD JOHN McFEE, TOM JOHNSTON AND YOU HAVE THE BEST GROUP TO EVER HIT, SINCE 1970's!!
*Neal* Cassady, but yeah. (Jack Cassidy was an actor who appeared in several Columbo movies and was the husband of Partridge Family matriarch Shirley Jones and the father of teen heartthrobs David and Shaun Cassidy.)
This is probably my favorite Doobie song “ RECORDED VERSION “. This sadly doesn’t come close. I saw them in concert in Albuquerque around 1979 when I was in the Air Force there when Michael McDonald was with the band. I felt the band lost their true sound then. Never understood that addition to the band.
This was a Sony Studios special performance and the people there were invited guests of Sony who are not deep Doobie, dedicated and devoted demonstrative definite lovers of Doobielicious deliriousness.
I thought Dave Mason was excellent...... he's 70, but you woudn't know it. The Doobies came out next and were just great. Then Journey..... they had a LOT of energy. One of the best total concerts I've been too. We left on a cloud...... not from substances in the crowd by the way.......haa. Been to mostly Rush concerts... .but I don't know..... .this was pretty high on my list of mind blowers, I have to say, and I'm 64.
This concert sure seems to be unparalleled in quality!!
I could watch the videos for this particular concert again and again!
Patrick Simmons is stupidly underrated the guy is a beast
Yes! A super talent.
He'll get his due now, I'm glad he is in the Rock Hall
Unbelievable talent that man is! I just love his sound and his soul!
I think I’d put this ahead of Black Water as my favorite Patrick Simmons song
Not even one of their hits and yet one of their best songs, Patrick Simmons is an absolute genius musically
Honestly I think they are the best band ever. They can play any style of music.
This is the true spirit of northern California. Best portrayed here by one of the iconic band from that area. Talking about Neil Cassady on the road. Nice job Pat.
Growing up in the Santa Cruz mountains with these guys was very special. I’ve seen them many many times, and they are extremely talented.!!!)
greatest band ever ...always in my hall of fame ..doobies rock & rule!!!!!!!
Arguably in a good way their best
Damn straight there ....keep on Rockin Down The Highway!!
Love watching John McFee go from guitar to pedal steel on this song. He can play the hell out of anything with strings on it.
Worst hairstyle of all time though.
andyinoregon JMcF is an amazing musician extremely talented and underrated..... Great band then now and tomorrow!
Yes, one of the guys nobody talks about much huh? He's a talent all on his own accord!
@@squonkdh His Wiki page is a testament to how much he contributed to so much of the great music of his generation.
know a guy like that in Nashville.
One of the truly great American bands.
And, maybe underappreciated

more than Michael Mcdonald ever did
My favorite Doobies song ever.
Mine, too ... incredible rock 'n' roll.

Me too. But not live. The recorded version. I have it on my play list and when I play it it’s. LOUD !
IMHO, this is not only the Doob's BEST song, it is one of the GREAT rock 'n' roll songs EVER!
love it ! ... Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons keeping it alive.
That bass player deserves a place up front.
HOW........IS THIS BAND NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!???
Motorcityman Man, May 2, 2020, the Doobie Brothers WILL be inducted...!
One of their finest! Love the instrumental bridge... just wow!!!

Saw the Doobies and 3 dog night back in the early part of the 70s and knew that this band would last the test of time.....
today's music must be required to watch and listen.....this is rel music and talent
The Doobies are the most famous band of my youth!!!!! Love them 'til now.... Beautiful!!!!!! Always smiling, when i hear this great songs.....!!!!
Have this dvd. Love it. This bass player is a monster.!
I have so much respect for Tiran Porter. Wish he was still with the Doobs.
@@fluffythewondercat but this is not Tiran Porter. It is Skylark.

SKYLARK BASS PLAYING IS AWESOME.
LOVE Skylark!
He kept the song tight! Best bass track I think was Tiran Porter on Clear as the Driven Snow though.
..hahaha, makes me wanna take up drums! Superlative bass playing. This is what makes America great, not that other crap! Greetings from Down Under.
Cannot believe the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame keeps rejecting this band....great catalog and a very good band live
Its Political
May 2, 2020...DBs induction into the RRHoF.....’
2019 Still rockin the Doobies ❤
One of my first concerts in 1974 at the Forum in Los Angeles was the Doobies. One of my favorite bands of all time.
I used to live in San Jose in 1969! I'm a surfer! I would go over the hills over Loma prieta! Drive by Neil Young's ranch! Go surfing at steamers!
Encore! Just too good.
Agreed!
Absolutely wonderful!!!

Yeah me too. I just want it to keep going. So much energy, so much fun. Seen these guys 3 times now each time is like the first.
This was a good lineup. Xtill nothing like the originals.
Probably my favourite song from "Stampede".....cruisin' down the road music.....:)
These guys are a family and ROCK like it !!!😅
Loma Prieta my mountain home..on the hills above Santa Cruz the place were I spent my youth...
I lived in the shadow of Loma Prieta and went up there many times.
@@academicjock I used to take my telescope up on Loma Prieta. I miss those days.
Just lovely
Great song. Delightfully performed
tom and pat very underrated lead guitarists
Not in my world..
depends on what world you are in james
not by me brother
Watching them do Clear As The Driven Snow can still give me goosebumps
Now go and watch them do this 40 years earlier with Jeff Skunk Baxter on lead and Tiran Porter on bass ua-cam.com/video/uuIqdeVX58k/v-deo.html
The Doobies.....Forever.....and great!!!!!
The days of my youth, my parents taking us to Big Basin State Park above Santa Cruz. Salamanders and Banana slugs in the creeks. Then off to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for more fun.
Just one of their best songs.....
Lived in saratoga drove up 35 and 17 to santa cruz from lis gatos hundreds of times redwoods baby redwoods
I was never a big John McFee fan but I have to admit the dude is talented.
2:30 - Skylark jumping around like a leaping gnome, while Bumpus is thinking "Get this joker off ma stage"...
My favorite Doobie song
Be still my heart...The Best and ageless 💗🤟 PS 🌞

2:08 I think Pat was channeling Skunk Baxter for that solo
excellent
I'll take the doobie brothers over ANYTHING.
Is the crowd dead??????
Superbe
On the road with Jack Kerouac and Jack Cassady: GREAT,Jack would have loved it..
*Neal* Cassady, but yeah. (Jack Cassidy was an actor who appeared in several Columbo movies and was the husband of Partridge Family matriarch Shirley Jones and the father of teen heartthrobs David and Shaun Cassidy.)

Why is everyone in the audience just sitting there?
They think they got took. They think," hey, I can play like that". Sick society
Pretty sure this an afternoon show.Looks like they just got out of work!
They're sitting in rapt wonder and utter respect for this virtuoso performance.
This was a Sony Studios special performance and the people there were invited guests of Sony who are not deep Doobie, dedicated and devoted demonstrative definite lovers of Doobielicious deliriousness.
The crowd looked unimpressed...who are these people??
whos Neal>?
...only it's not a Fandango.
What is with Mr Simmons hair, but they sound excellent
+Mickey Cook : I know, right?
He cut it when he was doing his solo album - it's back to long now :)
Yep just saw him at the Houston show........ excellent by the way
Just saw them last night here in MI
