  • This fly was originally created by Lance Egan, and is one of the best attractor patterns Ive ever fished. It's flashy, bright, and effective. I love fishing this as my lead fly, then drop to something a bit more realistic behind it. My favorite flies to drop behind this are the RS2, Pheasant tail, or black beauty. All of which can mimic midge or Baetis pupa and emergers quite well.
    So this fly can also be tied with a glass bead, and I believe originally it was created this way. However I like using brass beads here because it gives the fly a bit more weight, and I really like using this as my lead fly, to help other flies sink better. The flashiness of this fly really helps attract trout up to it, but many times I find they will strike the tailing fly instead of the rainbow warrior. This does not mean its not effective, just the opposite. It is very effective to get the fish moving out of their hole, to come take a look, but they elect to strike the less visible, and more realistic fly trailing it once they are close.

    This is easily my top producing fly. I actually started tying this same fly wet.

      McFly Angler non weighted. Standard wet fly variation. Basically same fly except it’s on a wet/nymph hook, no tailing and no bead head. And a hen feather for the hackle.

      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      Ahhh, ok so a flashy soft hackle type fly then... cool, sounds like a good producer. I like swinging soft hackles.

    We also go to Kenai alaska for salmon fishing.
    Its a blast we do all kinds of fun stuff but the cold weather is not bad at all.
    There were days that were hot.
    I was on the bluff in a tank top surf shorts and slippers while standing in the water.

      It’s a nymph, made to look like an aquatic bug. So unless your fishing for fish that eat bugs, I’d say probably not your go to fly for your type of fishing. Haha.

    Hi, I follow you and appreciate your history and job. Your flies have high quality. I could notice how good are the images you film. Could you share with me which camera and lens do you utilize?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you sir! So the camera is this one amzn.to/3fFRK4X. I just use the kit lens that comes with it, but for small flies I use the lens spacers to get in closer. Here is a link to the ones I use. amzn.to/3ve1PNb

    Also when tying these flies you want the pheasant tail short as possible I find when the pheasant tail is longer it doesn’t catch as many fish still works but you definitely catch more fish with a shorter tail

    would you use this one for euro style nymphing? just trying to learn what that is

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому +1

      You could, it’s more of just an attractor though so it can be used many types of nymphing techniques

      @@McFlyAngler there are a few ponds here but I do mostly inshore
      Fishing with dunking and whipping

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      Not sure what dunking and whipping is, but yeah man, I love inshore fishing. I used to live on the coast of California, and did a lot of it there, then also in the coast of Texas and did lots of inshore there as well. Love that kinda fishing.

      @@McFlyAngler dunking is when you cast out a line with big bait. The dunking pole is a heavy action rod. A spinning reel or conventional you will catch something.
      Whipping is I can't explain just search up shaka fishing and they have videos of what I'm talking about. Love your vids keep going

      @@McFlyAngler Thank you, I’ll have to see if it works sometime!

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah man, I mean that’s the beauty of tying your own flies. You can try other colors, sizes, materials, etc. make the flies your own. Use what you have on hand and test it. If it doesn’t work then try something else. My videos are more of a guide rather than an exact recipe. Use them for your own ideas and try something new. Now the original creator of the “rainbow warrior” might differ on his idea whether you can use another color dubbing, but that’s more because of the fact it’s his own pattern. All patterns are something you can change. Just have fun with them and see what you get.

  • @hurleytanaka7760

    In Hawai'i we use grub lures more than flies.
    We have many colors that are so good that they are s expensive.
    In talking 10 bucks for a pack of 5.

  • @hurleytanaka7760
    @hurleytanaka7760 5 років тому

    There is a bait fish in Hawai'i called o'ama and it catches what we call papio or omilu which you may call jack.
    Can you try make a lure fly like that?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  5 років тому

      Yeah it isn’t too hard to re create that... kinda weird looking fish though. Haha.
