    Nice one, thanks!
"Karate" is on their poppier side (in my opinion). But that main riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus. 😁
This music video is one of their best (if not the best: multiple award winning, etc.) and it pretty much explains the lyrics, which are about resilience and endurance.
Su-metal mentioned in an interview that karate perfectly represents the metaphor because it's the only martial art without "ukemi" (the techniques used in many martial arts to fall "properly").
I second the suggestions for "Megitsune" which sometimes is considered the quintessential BABYMETAL song.

You aught to listen to them alot, the lead singer Su has been voted best female metal voice 2023/24, voted 10th metal band in Metal Hammer magazine, they have multiple awards for best live band and numerous world tours (in US now) supported Metallica in 2017, Korn, Guns and Roses, RHCP and worked with Dragon Force, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Cory Taylor of Slipknott, BMTH and many others.

To fully appreciate Babymetal, you really ought to stat at the beginning - with Doki Doki Morning, recorded before any of them hit their teens. By starting at the beginning you will have a better of where they came from and just how far they have come. They have not long ago released their 4th studio album.

Welcome back, nice reaction. Weird or wonderful? Both of course - or you could swap those out for unique and original or innovative, hard working, passionate and incredibly talented.
'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.
They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
The figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
As in the comments below, you will not know just how good BABYMETAL are until you see and hear them live.
The official videos are all good (and this is one of the best), some should almost be compulsory viewing, but live is where you will always see and most importantly hear them at their best.
Here are a couple of suggestions for you (the last one is special):
    - 'Megitsune' live at PIA Arena April 2023 (one of their earlier songs, still one of the best and a big fan favourite) or live at Legend MM March 2024.
    - 'Monochrome' also live at PIA Arena April 2023
    - 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan official (from 2015) or live at PIA Arena 2023
    - 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere UK 2014 - their very first time in the UK aged 16 and 15, virtually unknown apart from a shock factor video that had gone viral ('Gimme Chocolate' - I would suggest leave that until you are a few songs in and if/when you watch it find a live version rather than the official video) and on the main stage at their first metal festival and first major event outside of Japan. They had 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to try to win over 50k+ UK metalheads while singing in Japanese. IDZ was the last song of the set - listen for the crowd at the end as the girls walk off stage.

Glad you did Babymetal solo, and yes, you'll need to check out Babymetal live! While their MVs are great, Babymetal is 100%, by design, a live performance group. Not experiencing their live is like having a PB&J sandwich, without the PB or the J 😜.
This song is an amazing song about overcoming obstacles and finding the courage to fight on. In the MV's case, overcoming one's own inner demons, represented by the spirits of the 3 girls.
Live suggestion: *Road of Resistance (Official Live).* Epic battle anthem, and their staple show closer for almost a decade.
    🤘🦊

Great reaction! Weird or wonderful? Weirdly wonderful 😄 I´m glad you chose "Karate" to react to a MV from BABYMETAL. It reveived some prices for best Metal MV or song (don´t remember exactly right now, maybe both). It contains some movie references, btw. 😉
You should know that BABYMETAL is best served live, although they have some really wonderful MVs to show to you 😉 You haven´t seen anything yet 😉 BABYMETAL has 14 years of history, a massive lore surrounding them, and they invented their own Metal style, which is called "Kawaii Metal". You can´t put them in a box, they blend so many styles of music with Metal, even things that you would think would never ever go together. So, expect the unexpected 🤣
"Karate" isn´t that much Metallica alike, if you want to hear some reminescence of Metallica, you should try
    - Babymetal Death (Legend MM 2024 Live) Eng Subs
I can´t give direct links, otherwise YT will delete my comment immediately. Quick YT search using this should do the trick 😉This live performance is fairly recent, March 2nd 2024, and you will get some Metallica vibes right from the beginning, as well as some very heavy metal music played by BABYMETAL´s very famous Kami Band (West, session musicians, all four of them coming from the US). Not that much of high pitch voices, tho 😄
If your time permits, you should try the live version of "Karate", to be more specific, the following version
    - KARATE (live UK Download 2016)
which is a quite iconic live performance of this song, and it features BABYMETAL´s Kami Band (East, session musicians as well, all of them coming from Japan), too.

Great reaction - but (soz) they're principally a LIVE group - and they invariably massively outshine their own MVs and studio stuff - unlike most groups. Live will include intros, solos, crowd interaction & control (they SPECIALISE in this and are complete masters), amazing stages (usually screens now), lighting and an incredible backing band (studio is not necessarily them) - it's a show really, when on their home ground.
    So,,,,,,,Pls try some live 😂
Personally I love a really old one called Legend 97 (concert name) - "Headbanger" - there's also an EDMversion of it in the same concert which is very fun if you like that sort of stuff - I do :). Thankyou for yr patience and welcome to "The One". Someone else can explain that - I've already run off at the mouth enough 😁

BABYMETAL is the most unique metal experience in the world right now coming from Japan 🇯🇵. Not only their appearances, their style, and everything that surrounds them visually and backing Babymetal for live shows are an incredible band "The Kami Band". They’re so passionate about metal but music in general they know everything about the metal music discography after watching Metallica perform on stage. Babymetal created a new sub genre of metal call "Kawaii Metal" or Cute Metal. Babymetal created a very special feeling, and experience within the entire metal community. They work extremely hard to create something unique for every community ranging from the young, teenagers, middle age to old school metalheads. Babymetal may not be on everyone's metier but if you don't like it's ok. Babymetal paves the way for other Japanese 🇯🇵 bands to be recognized worldwide. BABYMETAL original trio comprises of Suzuka Sakamoto aka Su-Metal, Moa Kikuchi aka Moametal and Yui Mizuno aka Yuimetal. Yui Mizuno left BABYMETAL in 2018 cited health issues", Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal officially became Babymetal third core member in April 2023. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult.

Its hard to just choose any BABYMETAL song and get an accurate representation of them because they have been active for over 10years and were very young when they started with Su Metal being just 13yo and Yui and MOA being an incredible 11yo. You really need to start with Doki Doki morning and go on the adventure.

Welcome to the weird, wonderful, amazing, strange, unique world of Babymetal. No two songs are the same and yes, they are their own genre unlike so many 'run of the mill' bands out there today. I have been an avid music listener since the 60's (of all types) but no band/singer/group has affected me like BM. I have been a fan for 10 years and I will be forever.

I'm not a musician or song writer in metal or any other genre, but as I understand it most of Metallica is kind of old school and this is actually kind of a modern metal.
But Babymetal does all kinds of styles of metal subgenres and also incorporating other genres of music.
Something to know: best to choose Babymetal live videos.

It sounds familiar and similar to the sound of Metallica, well it's obvious, it's the Metal genre of the band and these bands sound similar, now the tender or sweet part of the voice, it's because it's the Baby part of the band, and they are the pioneers and creators of the Kawaii Metal genre, it's normal for anyone to say: I liked it, I would see it again, but it's not to my musical liking, that's what we all said about BabyMetal when facing this new genre, but when you keep listening to songs, you learn more about the band, their history, how they knocked down walls to be accepted and how they have chipped away at stones from a very young age to have the success of world tours and the support of the Metal genre community, both audiences and bands, you come to love the band. Try to give yourself a chance to expand what you already know with new things, and not just react, you will find a great band, with great musicians and great members.

The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that - even after you watch a few of them! I tell folks that BABYMETAL is like single-malt scotch: more often than not, they both tend to be an acquired taste. This is among their best music videos of which they have several. Anyway . . . .
You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums with over fifty songs, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art.
I try to urge people new to BABYMETAL to start from BABYMETAL's beginning and see how they have progressed to now - see where they’ve been before getting caught up in where they are - and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" ( ua-cam.com/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/v-deo.htmlsi=k84SUx4P01t9M5ic ) and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay") ( ua-cam.com/video/qVdBBOpSoN4/v-deo.htmlsi=rNZ3yF8RGVdzBZmS ), both released in 2012. I'm sure you will find both very entertaining, and it is my opinion that, until you’ve seen their earlier work, you haven't really experienced BABYMETAL.
You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs (with links to suggested versions). The first sixteen are from what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" (better known as "The Yui Era"). This list also includes all four songs of the BABYMETAL sub-group Black BABYMETAL (just Yui and Moa while Su is taking a break):

You can use my UA-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty” ( ua-cam.com/play/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj.html ) as a quick link to all of these videos; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest:
    "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q.html
    and/or
    "Budokan Black Night" (2014) ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wBwsBfjsKH9zWxA5YOOUkSI.html
Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (Sorry about the wall!)
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

You should check out the lyrics to Karate. They are super important, especially at the moment.

I only listen to babymetal, so everything else seems weird to me.
