We Found a URANIUM MINE in the Victorian Goldfields

- The Victorian Goldfields region is well known for its incredible gold mining history - massive nuggets, rich quartz reefs, and buried riverbeds full of gold. But did you know that we had our very own Uranium rush back in the 1950s?
In this video, we're going to look into the story of how two brothers from Kingower made this incredible discovery, and then I'm heading out with historian and author John Tully, on an adventure to search for the remote site of their Uranium mine.

My great uncle Eric told the discoverer of Rum Jungle Uranium mine about the rocks he was looking for... Eric Spry didnt have a Geiger counter, White did.,and while White may have still found the deposit, because there was also Malachite everywhere there. Eric Spry was a long time Tin tantalum and gold prospector and miner in that region of the Northern Territory., That region now is seeing an upsurge as there are lithium deposits.

Victoria does have a viable uranium deposit on an old goldfield. North of Omeo on the Glen Wills goldfield, not far from the astonishingly rich Maude and Yellow Girl gold mine, there is a large uranium deposit on the slopes of Mount Wills.
I was reading about the Glen Wills discovery as well, very interesting 🙂⚒ cheers

I have property in Inglewood and this is the first time I've heard of this.
No wonder the area is protected.
Being a full-time traveller, mainly on the coast for fishing, watching your video's I have been giving some serious thought to visiting Warburton's bridge campground in Glenluce, this was the site of the family home many years ago, it would be great to stay there a week or 2 and do some exploring of the Goldfields like I used to in my younger days

Was that a typo on the Mines dept report? Mt Kooyoora is 20 miles due EAST? of Inglewood.
Great series of videos. Very interesting and informative and thanks alot for talking clearly with out that extremely annoying Californian vocal fry that seems to have taken hold everywhere. It drives me nuts.
There's another trace amount that was found and drilled I believe in the King Valley as well..

Did you get an impression of how hazardous the radiation levels are? For example if you were doing rock climbing or camping next to granite regularly?

G'day, I have read about that discovery in the Kingower area at the Dunolly Museum, and thanks so much for your description of that historical even, pity or blessing, that it didn't eventuate, that area is so unique and needs to be preserved for our future, mining ⛏️⛏️⛏️ still goes on around the hills mostly for Gold let's hope it's not too damaging, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
