  • “I had attended URI for a couple of years, but school wasn’t really panning out,” said CW3 Gustavo Vasquez, a full-time UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter instructor pilot with C Co 1-126th Aviation Regiment. “So, I enlisted into the Guard, looking for a little more fulfillment in my life. One thing led to another, and I found myself flying Black Hawks; I haven’t looked back since.”
Despite being a straight-A student throughout high school, Vasquez felt like something was missing from his life. Something he couldn’t find in a classroom, so he enlisted into the Rhode Island National Guard, in search of something different. With years of flying under his belt, he’s finding fulfillment in new ways by teaching others.
“Now that I’m teaching others and am able to see in real time, how I’m able to affect someone’s day, week, month, and ultimately life is incredibly fulfilling,” said Vasquez. “I’m extremely proud and happy to do what I do day in and day out.”
