2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 | Dream a Little Dream

- With its storied history of transporting the wealthy in dramatic fashion for over 70 years, the SL is truly an automotive icon. Picturing a 1950’s era SL with its “Gullwing” doors raised is an image even non-car people can elicit.
After a brief hiatus for the 2021 model year, Mercedes has redrawn the SL for a new generation of convertible aficionados this time with an additional 2 seats and an exclusive tune from its in-house speed shop; all 3 SL trims now wear the AMG badge. For those who can afford a 6-figure roadster, this all-new SL will undoubtedly satisfy and though I haven’t driven the base SL 43 with its hybridized 2.0-liter turbo, I would most certainly aspire to this range-topping SL 63 with its twin-turbo V8, 577 horsepower, 590 pound-feet of torque and 0-to-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. And believe it or not, all of these numbers seem undervalued. This car is a monster…it’s Aaron Judge in a tuxedo. And just like his contract, this car costs a boatload of money…$183,000 to start and $208,000 as seen here.

35*F out, top down, and air scarf, plus heated seats is absolutely perfect...well, so I've heard. 🏁
Damn Steve, you do have a great job. I'd probably chain myself to this thing, price be damned.
😂
I wish reviewers would read the manual. Pressing the top button at the bottom of the screen twice and holding it on the second press raises or lowers the top. No need to mess with the slider on the screen.
Or….maybe make it a switch you hold like in every other car 🤷🏼♂️
@@stevehammes Did you actually understand what you’ve been told? Same thing, even if the button is a bit smaller than in other convertibles. 🤷🏻♂️
This car makes more Snap, Crackle and Pop than your morning bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats!
9 Pop Tarts / 10 Pop Tarts
Nice job man
“Air Scarf Neck Heating System.”
I’m sold.
People at dinner parties are gonna HATE me: “Oh, your daughter just got a scholarship? That’s a lot like my car’s Air Scarf Neck Heating System.”
That's one heck of a nice car, man!
Looks great however not a fan of the massive screen on the inside, rather have buttons
Awesome 💯
Dreams indeed, great way to end 2023 and begin 2024. Happy New Year, everybody!!
🎉🎉🙏🙏✨️✨️
Happy new year!!
Mercedes absolutely knocked it out of the park with the aesthetics of this car. Think they’ll make a hard top version?
Black Series, perhaps?
So Steve, are you getting the SL or EQS? 🙂
Definitely the SL. How about you?
@@stevehammes I don't believe I've driven the SL yet so I'll take your word for it there. I do love that electric acceleration of the EQS tho!
The soft Top can be open or close by pressing the soft top button once then hold it again for 5 sec. No need to do it on the screen
Nice!
What spoils it for me, is that the interior does not look like a vehicle of its class, dominated by a screen which is effectively the same across most Mercedes vehicles.
I like the SL but its wayyy to expensive. 200k gets you a lot of vehicles, namely a 911. Plus the interior IMO looks a bit too simple for 200k. Dont get me started on the 115k asking for the 4 cylinder version.
Why not spend $200k on a Porsche 911? There’s a convertible version
Because most Porsche don‘t sound as good as the SL63? 🤷🏻♂️ I owned many 911, they are a blast to drive but the new SL63 is the perfect GT. Is it worth 200k? No, it isn‘t BUT you can usually get one at a huge discount (at least here in Germany, I did) and the car is worth every penny.
Steve…
You have $200k to burn…would you buy this car or a targa 911?
That 911 Targa is pretty damn awesome but I would probably go with this.
what are your priorities? each car is equally capable, so it has to come down to which feels best to you (both visually and tactile) and what emblem you want on the golf shirt or leather key chain
@@K03sport So true. It’s not as if you could wrong with either. It’s a matter of personal preference. Both would be amazing.
Hell of a car.
Not that good looking in my opinion.
Looks like the old Lexus SC. Like a bar of soap.
Horrible sound. What happened to the classic SL? Make an inline 6 non AMG bagged quite and friendly looking. We have enough hostile looking garbage cars out there. I guess the classy crowd doesn’t exist anymore. ..
