My dad only uses 9ft medium fast rods when he goes saltwater fishing. He says it's the best rods he's ever bought I think he has either 5 or 6 of them. Then we have the 2 medium heavy 10 and 11ft surf rods we've been catching bull red and black drum not even on the beach. I'm sure the 11ft you used made some sort of difference. Great video, been binging through my fishing watch later list this past week.

Thank you! Sounds like your dad has it figured out. I definitely think the longer rods can help land fish faster and in the case of jetty fishing, safer!

Sheepshead are fun to catch, but don't try to fillet them.

Yeah they can dull a knife but I found that a good electric knife makes quick work of them! Cleaned about 30 of them this year and left them on the half shell to bake!

@Kardiac Outdoors That sounds like the best way to get the most out of them.

Your 11' rod is a conventional rod,. Not a spinning rod, you have mismatched equipment. You're using a spinning reel on a conventional Rod... Just an observation...

Yes, and it’s intentional. I wanted to use the biggest rod I had to try and muscle these sheepshead out the rocks. It’s a $25 rod from bass pro, using a spinning reel on it won’t hurt or hinder its performance. A lot of these cheap long rods don’t have a true spine or are built to have either type of reel put on them.

We’re you using a float ? What kind of bait

No float! Live shrimp with a 2/0 kahle hook, pinched a 1/8oz splitshot (or two) about 10-12inches above the hook!
