    What up, Fam?
    In this vid, we learn how to throw playing cards..... then make'm explode! This is the first in a series I have dubbed "Hero Skills", in which we learn how to replicate some of the powers of our favorite comic book and fantasy heroes. Cape not included...

    The "technique that began to emerge" is called the Thurston Method of card throwing, made famous by the magician of the same name. Also, just take 4 pre-made poppers and tape one to each corner of one card, and cover that card with the second one, and you'll have one that will pop however it hits. You're welcome.

    Cool technique, and I'm kinda glad it did not work too well or easy - if being a hero wasn't hard work everyone would do it! Thanks for sharing!

    I had a thought..... maybe instead of tissue paper, you could use flash paper? Its a magicians trick paper that ignites with very little heat causing a small to medium fire ball. Used with the powder it would ignite in a fireball as well as the pop making it look more spectacular.

    Gambit was legitimately the first male I wanted to marry. The first male I was attracted to was Darkness from Legend, but even as a 4 year old I knew he wasn't the marriage type...

    As a alternative if u use strike anywhere matches ( be VERY CAREFUL when crushing), add water to the powder to make a slurry u could coat the edges of a card. Once it's dried it sticks really strong and does the same thing on impact. This would let u have a card that would pop no matter which edge hits and wouldn't effect the way the card flys as much as you're not adding weight to just one corner..might be worth a try and would potentially level your cards up. :)

      I LOVE this. Now, would they pop like that or just catch fire? Honestly, I am OK with flaming cards too lol. May be cool to make sharp metal throwing cards that catch fire on contact.

    • @jedininjamaster
      @jedininjamaster 2 роки тому +7

      To add to this, if you sandwiched flash paper between two cards that have the safety match slurry coating you would get flaming cards.

      @@jedininjamaster I was just popping in to say the same thing. Flash paper is a beautiful thing if you wanna make your pyrotechnics even cooler lol

      @@SkillTree If you nitrate the cards they should burst into flames and then disintegrate. Its an old magician trick, you nitrate the cellulose and it will just burn up without leaving any smoke or ash behind. Adding a metal salt would allow you to change the color of the flame too.

    Excellent video. By the looks of it, that was a difficult foam to stick cards in. If it's what I think it is, its outermost layer is smooth and not very porous. If you sand it down, you might get better results.
    But if you want instant satisfaction from card throwing, there's nothing better than wet floral foam. It's that green foam in the artificial flower section of your local hobby store, or similar section of big box stores like walmart. It will probably be the stuff with a bunch children sized finger indentions in it. Which is fine. It still works great.
    Also, it's called wet foam because it's meant to be soaked in water. Don't do that. We want it to be dry for card throwing.
    Once you get good, you can absolutely get through stiffer foams like Styrofoam, but floral foam will be the most instantly satisfying target for novices.

    • @SkillTree
      @SkillTree  4 роки тому +4

      Great tip! I know just the foam you're talking about. I will pick some up to make my practice less infuriating.

    Fun fact: it takes about the same amount of force to bite through a human finger as it does a carrot. So, arguably, you could probably stick that card into someone lol

    it doesn't take along time to learn to throw cards, i can throw with accuracy or style, i just need to perfect it, one thing i noticed is your using regular playing cards, in a realistic xmen universe, gambit would probably use multiple decks of throwing cards specifically
