2020 Polo GT TSI BS6 vs Polo GT TSI DSG: Can the new 6-Speed Auto be as good as a DSG? | UpShift
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- The GT TSI is a bit of a weird one. Many people absolutely adore it and many people absolutely hate it. The split happens usually due to the transmission which was the DQ200 7-Speed DSG found in the last GT TSI. Regardless of what you thought, the combination of the 1.2 TSI and DSG transmission was a rapid one. With the announcement of the new GT TSI coming with a 6-Speed Torque Converter every old Polo GT TSI owner blacked out for a moment. But the new GT TSI does not disappoint, it still retains the fun factor of the older car and is a hoot to drive through the twisties.

Take a sip of your drink whenever he says “gt tsi”
I have 2018 gt tsi and now bought 2021 gt tsi for wife. I find, the suspension of new one better but high speed stability better in 2018 one, of coure 200 cc extra engine. Torque conv is ok but dsg with 1.2 is gonna be a gem . I know i ll get to sell 2018 gt tsi 6 times the cost 10 yrs frm now as an anitque .. hehe
U think it will last that long? In my opinion the torque converter is a 19/20 in terms of shifts comes with an asin toyota transmission so is very reliable and was available for a shorter period, engine is derived from an up gti making it a more desired choice.
Can we just appreciate how great quality video this is.... Throwing out the major car reviews YTuber in India
Thank you so much Shaam! Really appreciate the support, people like you motivate us everyday to produce content like this 🙌🙌
They just distroyed the GT! GT was meant for driving enthusiast, not for mileage suckers! But even though mileage was not that bad either. It was Totally up to how you were driving. It could easily give 13-14 in city and 17-18 on highway.
Well said brother..the old GT is a beast 🔥
True
I don’t think anymore enthusiasts will buy this. VW has screwed up a good car. DSG was the reason people bought this car, the target customers are enthusiastic drivers. This was never a family or city driving car.
Gives me 9-10 in the city :/
@@DeepGamingAI good! that means you are enjoying the car to it's fullest. That's how this car is meant to be driven. You shouldn't expect more unless you're one of those mileage mongers!
Much awaited comparison. His words are crisp and bold which makes him stand out of the crowd.
Dsg wasn't thirsty, the engine was. Also Dsg gives more mileage than a manual. I also have Vento TDI Dsg and gives great mileage.

So you mean AT TC Box consumes less fuel than DSG/DCT Box?
Man your technical knowledge!
Ford shifted back to Torque Converter. Now VW. TC have evolved a lot and taken over dsg just like laptops are now as light as tablets
It's the cheap maintenance that makes the torque converter win over the DSG. DSGs are the kings, that's why performance cars use them
@@aloksuresh8417 It's just that both Ford and VW have faced multiple class action lawsuits for failed DCT boxes. "Maintenance" is not very expensive on a DCT. The price of a *NEW* one once the old one *breaks* is the expensive part.
@@pranavp386 Ya. Just talking about the overalls. Replacement is the only issue and that's what's expensive.
I just bought the old GT TSI even when my budget could get me a THAR AT. The DSG is so kickass❤️. It's like a rocket. I agree it drinks like a fish, but if u want fuel efficiency get a maruti! And I did not like the new torque converter GT either. Feels refined and erm. Boring. It's not solid, rugged and raw like the DSG
I agree with you 👍
Congratulations on buying the whip

Very well reviewed. You have good knowledge. You correctly mentioned the numbness abs deadness in the Center of Vw steering which most people skip. You deserve more subscribers and views than this
But DSG will also give good mileage.. maybe in city mileage less...in highway run it will give around 16-18 Kms per litre mileage..as it got 7 speed👍
yes 16-18 in highway
It all depends on driving. 80 will definitely give you that mileage. But since its a GT its very difficult to not rev it and just stick on to 80 😅
you need to drive with very mild throttle to get that figure, but if you do justice to its character, expect much lower
@@harisankar5194 No. You get max 13 kmpl on highways and max 8 in the city.
@@pratikbangal that's what I said, if u drive what it meant for, it's much lower u can expect from what he said.

wait hold up... if you drive a DSG sedately they're on of the most efficient transmissions
On the highway only, not city
@@drakeignis4322 nope Dual Clutch transmissions probably have the most efficient technology while, torque converter ATs are old and not very efficient
@@tanmeygoswami5251 highly disagree
@@drakeignis4322 lmao. Any reason bruh?
@@tanmeygoswami5251 I own one, it's been serviced regularly, everything's fine, it all depends on the city you live in too. Pune has horrid traffic and roads, I barely get 10-11 kmpl in the city and I need to cautiously shift up under 2.5k in order to get some sort of mileage. On the highway it's a beauty, I am get anywhere between 15-20 kmpl on the highways depending on how I'm driving.
This guy is putting so much efforts for marketing of the New GT TSI may be people knows new one has lost charm with 3 cylinder engine and there is no comparison of 1.2 TSI+ DSG
Manual TSI beats the pants out of both GTs and that's a slept on car 😂
Lol u don't know anything about new tsi 1.0
You just focussed on mileage and the cost of changing dsg in case of breakdown.
My gt gives easily 11 to 12 in city and up to 18 on highways. So guys it's the driving style that matters.
Also if you care, there are very less dsg failures reported...
I still feel they must have used dsg in Polo gt tsi...
Not a vw fan but this polo gt especially the old one is something special on the road
Was hoping to see a drag race between both the cars. Liked the GT TSI DSG vs Manual👍 Great work guys!
This would make the comparison much sensible
I think VW has done a good job with replacing the dsg with torque converter for a smaller 1L tsi engine. This makes polo more cheaper, more mileage, which will definitely increase their sales
Nope, it's still has the same price when I had bought the GT TSI (DSG) a year ago.
@@pradyumnagowda Yes but in the long run we wouldn't have to fork up 2Lakhs to replace the transmission like in the DSG.
Everyone going back to torque converters. Meanwhile Tata, infamous for service and maintenance , going to launch DCT!!!!
0:57 well built torque converters are equally good or sometime even better than some of the dual clutch transmission eg: ZF8 speed
8:05 when we tune a car with dsg, we also need to find a map for the gearbox too... That's a headache bcuz dual clutch transmission isn't a reliable one... An error in the tuning of dsg will cost the earth .... Where as in torque converters we don't even wanted to think about the wear and tear of the clutch plate 😊

Yes gt tdi is better for me as well.
I’m looking forward to purchase my first Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. I’m eagerly looking for one in the used car market and looking forward to tuning it. I wanted to understand which of the two GT TSI (DSG or Torque converter) have the better tuning capability considering the DSG is only a single overhead cam unlike the other.

People appreciate DSG so much I also agree but it is fail mechanism as well much expensive. I couldn't found a single owner who don't face any problems in DSG, best to buy 1 ltr tsi manually which is award winning motor.
Fantastic video. About the whole DOHC and SOHC thing. My figo 1.5TDCi still has SOHC, Doesn’t feel out of air at all..

@@harisankar5194 Not really not everyone likes old skool
@@hardikarora973 am happy to be old school then. Even polo dsg couldn't give a proper feel/full control in fast drive in its D mode. I always used it's manual mode to get the fun/ complete control feel.. So I proudly say it's the manual box satisfies me. No offence to people who loves dsg over manual :)
@@yuvimodgil2934 first of all you wont get the 4cylinder 1.2 TSI with DSG model now because VW discontinued it. so you need to get a used one if u really want one.
now coming to new and old engines -->1.2 litre 4 cylinder is smooth and refined than current 1 litre. but 1litre is not bad at all.
If you want a manual gear box, blindly you can buy new 1 litre with 6 speed manual box variant.
but if you need automatic, you need to decide one from two things, that is between reliability and performance. if you want super quick gearshift and performance, get a used 1.2L DSG combo, but if u need reliable gearbox and can compromise slightly on perfo and planning for long term usage, get new 1 litre with TC. because DSG is a highly complicated mechatronics and especially DQ200 DSG(in the polo) is a dry clutch model. it may(depends on you luck) hit some issue long term usage and repair/ replacement will be sky high priced.
hope things are clear and now ball is in your court. happy motoring :)
How do you know the new Torque converter combo is more efficient than earlier DSG? Have you extensively driven the new one over similar routes?
The new engine maybe efficient but Torque converters are considered to be more thirsty than dry clutch DSG. And the ARAI ratings confirm that.
Very well explained bro each and every thing clear with perfect detail...... and your voice really pleasing
Bangalore traffic gets you 9 kmpl on bad days and 11 on the ORR commutes. But then, if you’re worried about kmpl, you’re looking at the wrong place.
VW could have done this much before but spoiled the good time... Now there are a lot of turbo petrols. The 1.2TSI manual could have been the base for VW than the NA engine .
Still missing on simple features like keyless entry reverse camera standard etc.
Also which 1.2 liter engine in the market is coming with a Dual overhead camshaft? Assuming its competitor is likes of Swift and Hyundai and Tiago in this market segment?

Every car enthusiastic knows that torque converter is the least fuel efficient in the automatic industry👍 except @The driver hub....😂 Fuel efficiency of New GT TSI claimed is 16.47 over 17.21 DSG GT . The driver hub🤪
Every car enthusiast would also know that modern torque converters losses are much lower than how it was a decade back and are very close to DCT in terms of efficiency and shift speed.
Every car enthusiast would know that a DCT in a 100hp car is completely and utterly useless.
Every car enthusiast would also know that if you drive a DCT in hot climate+ bumper to bumper traffic, it will fail very quickly compared to a Torque converter.
Every car enthusiast would also know all the lawsuits VW have with their DSG and Ford has with their Powershift DCT.
And finally, every car enthusiast would always prefer a naturally aspirated, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, lightweight car that's NOT super nose heavy and UNDERSTEERS LIKE A VW.
But alas, this is India where enthusiasts are just fools who want something that's not a suzuki or a hyundai.
Every car enthusiast also knows TC is far more reliable than DSG
You got schooled Mr kohli.
BTW how do you pronounce your first name.?
The real debate should be why there is no Golfs in India. Regardless of GTI version doesn’t compare to the fun of a GOLF
My GT DSG gives 13-14 km/Lt in city with max speed of 80km/hr and 17-18 in highway with max speed of 130km/hr
I drove a baleno on free smooth highway and thought to reach the top end but at 90kmh the interior started to rattle as hell you need balls of steels to go beyond that lol
Reduce the speed to 50 in city and 100 in highway you will see wonders in terms of mileage. I own a Vista quadrajet and i get 25 kmpl in highway and 17-18 in city. I follow the speed as i posted above. Never got over 120 on highways and cuz of turbo i dont have to push it hard to reach 100 kmph and i keep it that way. My car returned 25.2 kmpl.

@@TheDriversHub yeah, on the double take i understand, it was raining during your shoot. Many thanks for clearing it up. :)
The mileage of any car depends on how you drive, I am using GT TSI for the past 5 years if i drive in a civilized way in the city I could get 13.5-14, and on highways 17-19 kmpl.
Hey Charly! Yes that's true, it all depends on driving, but with the older GT, you have cautiously shift on time below 2.5k RPMs to get some sort of fuel efficiency and moreover, we operate out of Pune where there are fools on the roads left and right and it is impossible to maintain decent speeds in the city whereas cities like Gurgaon, since the roads are wide, you can maintain a better average speed. Higher average speed = Better fuel economy that's what we find works for the 1.2 TSI + DSG combo if you want fuel economy out of it.

A person who buys GT should not/will not bother about mileage unless its for his wife to go to work. :-)
so don't stress on the mileage crap. what would have made me happy is the 1.8 TFSI engine inside a GT. the GTI is damn expensive as its imported as a whole unit. downgrading to a 1000CC , well not to my liking.

I enjoy your channel and am a Polo GT fan boy but reviews like this reduce your credibility. The biggest issue with the new torque converter is the unnecessarily fast 'creep mode'. Can catch you and makes you rethink even giving the car for valet parking. And no the touch screen is no longer best in class - heck it does not even get a reverse camera
Yes the creep was definitely a surprise even on my test drive, but on speaking to the technical team, they said it was a necessity for pairing the gearbox to the small turbo engine. Yes, it sucks we don't have a reverse camera, but again, beauty of a VW is the infinite mod potential. I'm picking up my car next week, and will be fitting an original flip logo camera. I'll try and make a video on it somewhere
@@joyrides6184 agree - am considering one too and will do bilstein b6's for sure. Flip Logo camera sounds great - would love to learn more - how does one connect with you on twitter/insta - will DM. cheers and thanks!

It's an awesome little thing. For sure up there with the Polo when it comes to handling. Personally, we don't like the Ford's interior too much. Too cheap and plasticky but it's a hoot to drive for sure!
How can Torque Converter be more fuel efficient than DCT?
Hey Bakul! Torque Converters have progressed a lot and now they are on par with DCT tech. The DSG gearbox is amazing for fuel efficiency on highways where you're doing constant 80-100kmph speeds but in the city, the DSG burns through fuel like no one's business. The Torque converter is a much more fuel efficient gearbox in city conditions.

Common man, dsg isn't fuel efficient ?? .. absolutely incorrect. It isn't inefficient, on the contrary it is as efficient as manual. But it is expensive and not suitable for indian roads due to heavy traffic. And heating of dsg and jerking. To avoid the warranty costs, vw / Skoda would have decided to move to torque converter. Mileage drop is not due to dsg, it could be due to time spent in lower gears 2 or 3 is more.

How does the DSG failure occur, even after a proper TCU tune ? Isn't it's purpose of remapping the DSG gearbox for an extended period of time!?
Hey Hari! So what we were trying to explain was, the DQ200 gearbox cannot take upwards of 250 NM of torque, if you try and remap the car for more than that, it takes a toll on the clutch and eventually breaks the transmission. If you put in a launch control tune also, after almost 10 launches, the transmission will start giving you problems.
@@TheDriversHub AFAIK , The DSG maps from TVS engineering , Quantum tuning , Superchips etc ..significantly improves the longevity of the gearbox .The main reason for a DSG failure is due to holding onto a single gear on lower speeds (heavy traffic) causes over heating and stress on the mechatronics, by remapping the gearbox it increases the clutch clamping pressure and will not transfer much heat to the mechatronics !!
@@TheDriversHub A stage 3 DSG map from TVS engineering for DQ200 gearbox can hold upto 400nm of torque on stock clutches. For your reference
