#1 Most Common Mistake When Fishing With Metal Spoons

- THIS is the #1 mistake when fishing with metal spoons I commonly see out on the water.
I myself made this same mistake for a long time until I finally came around to realize it only hurt the action on the lure.

You’re ready to hit the water and catch more fish without having to constantly replace the lure!!
Spoons cast far and there really are no restraints for when you can use a spoon.
Windy days, cloudy days, sunny days, rough or calm days - spoons will get the job done.
If you have any additional questions about the gear, any of the techniques you saw, or really anything else - please go ahead and let me know down in the comments section!!

Long live Salt Strong.👏

I fish kastmaster and I find they work in all sorts of retrieve. But depending on water depth and where the fish are relative to me, I would use different retrieve. For example, if the fish is directly below me, I would jig my spoon. If I'm am fishing off the bank and the water is shallow, I would do a slow direct retrieve. If the water is deep and I'm fishing off a dock, then I will do a twitch retrieve where I let it sink back a little to induce a strike. Works well for me.
Awesome feedback!
I think it depends on the type of fish - on the westcoast I reel the spoon on the surface rather quickly for bonita - good tips !
Thank you for great tip love your videos
Glad you like them!
thanks just bought a Walmart spoon and needed some tips.
Great advise thank you, I would just like to add if those are normal gum boots which you are wearing that is really a problem on a boat. I lost two friends many years back, they were trout fishing on a small boat in a lake. The boat turned over for some reason and both men drowned as a result of their gum boots filling with water and they were unable to keep their heads above water, just some food for thought, take care.
Super exciting opening 🙌 👏
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice fish in the opening scene, Matt!
Thanks!
Honestly i haven't figured out the best retrieve for a spoon. I have used steady and a twitching retrieve. For jigging stripped bass i use a fast jigging motion.
Use what works!
Is swivel is a must when using spoon?
Gold spoon, my number 1 lure to go to for reds!
Just caught a 17 in red today with one eating it right now sooooo good
I can't count the times when the fish wouldn't even look at a spoon fished with a straight retrieve but would crush it with a twitched retrieve. A spoon has been a major tool in my box for nearly 40 years.
That's great! They are a great tool.
hello, what type of knot/swivel did you attach to the spoon? Thank you.

@@Saltstrong ok, thank you.
What knot do you use, also with ring or without ? ..ty
Uni knot - it depends on preference and the type of spoon.
Daiwa bg 4000 or bigger for a blend surf fishing with heavy bait and inshore fishing with lures?
ive been getting by with the PENN FIERCE III 5000, but i think a 4000 series would be just fine, i just love that you can buy the penn for half as much and its very easy to maintain, seals are great but salt always finds a way in. maintenance will cost less than seals that'll give up anyway. ive had good luck with the 5000 set on light drag, sometimes id like a lighter reel, sometimes id like a heavier one. but thats why folks end up with more than one rod. just, buy whatever makes you wanna fish with it more. i just happen to be a fan of cheaper mid level setups. not sure if thats helpful, just wanted to weigh in.

Depends on the fish
I have keep spoons in my lure box, but I’ve never found them to be a confidence bait for me.
You should try forks next time.
They're worth a try!
@@Saltstrong I guess when I think about it, I’ve had some pretty good days using spoons. I probably need to fish more salt water than I do.
Luke did a video years ago showing that twitching the spoon catches more fish lol.
👍
I definitely remember that video also...
Personally, steady retrieve has worked best for me. Caught my PB 28” trout using straight retrieve :)
Actually, what Luke showed was that when you do a straight retrieve, but add occasional pauses and raise the rod tip slowly you got strikes on that slow roll. It was his dad that was out-catching him on a trip that prompted him to make that video. Very familiar with the video and it is an effective way to use this lure when they are less active. Thanks for the comment!
Interesting. I just watched another salt strong video where a guy and his father fished spoons. His father strongly outfished him by twitching. Guess I will try both.
Thanks for the advice. Weren’t you just catching snapper with southern salt lol
Matt has been on fire lately!
Haha! Yessir! That was me! I stay on the move!
Will. Practice this next time I throw a spoon 🥄
Let us know how you do!
@@Saltstrong will do
