I am 63, a uss veteran now live in Phillipines with a lovely filipina wife, I enjoy your reacts of old-school classic rock ..in year 1976 I see YES in concert in Detroit, Michigan .. thank you for the memories!!
Imagine being there !!!❤°LOL. They were so beautiful on stage that it is other worldly in every way. 😍 Its so perfect that the music becomes a life of it own.
I love Yes and in the early 70s when the keyboards / synthesizers were getting hot they and a few other groups stood out with their own unique sound. Yes had incredible lyrics that went deep. I had not seen this video so thanks to Elok! O, the memories!
This Yes Album, Close to the Edge, has very important meaning to me. This is such an incredible love song with deep meanings that it made a big difference in my life when I was having serious mental health issues. It helped me reconnect with the universe and society after a complete psychotic break.
I saw them live back in 1975 and '76 and they performed this song. It was unbelievable experience and it really kind of changed my music outlook. After this my neuropathways were opened up for more complicated music. Though I miss those days I wouldn't give it up for anything.
one of those semi-rare times when the studio version would have been much preferable, especially considering its stellar production quality..........c'est la vie............
Congratulations on another exceptional reaction to a classic piece of music. I may be mistaken but I think that's four now done. You've only just begun your journey and there is a whole ocean of Yes music to be experienced. Take your time though. Some reactors have gone too quickly through Yes and have become used to accepting exceptional music as the normal standard because of this. I'll be interested to see where you go next. No doubt you'll enjoy it though...
I could talk for hours about YES. Chris Squire is the main influence in my life as a bass player. I've seen them at least 40 times from 1970. Please continue with their masterpieces. YES'S 35TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT called SONGS FROM TSONGAS is exceptional. Excellent quality. The song SOUTH SIDE OF THE SKY is awesome. Hey I know...lets check it out sometime. Thanks for all you do. 😎✌❤
Hi Elok Hsu, A GREAT GROUP, you should watch the 2017 Hall of Fame Awards where the played Roundabout. I was a Keyboard Player and Rick Wakeman was one of my hero's, but there are many more
Also check out another hero on Keyboards Keith Emerson of Emerson lake and Palmer, RIP Keith and Greg Lake, another Prog band who are AMAZING! Many songs but to start out slow you can start with From the Beginning and then Hoedown from the album Trilogy, AMAZING MUSIC AND VOCALS
This was from their early days in 1972 when video recording was very poor quality so you’re not seeing Yes at their best. I also prefer their studio recordings sound wise, but if you want to see them at their best live then it would be at their show in Montreux 2003; great sound quality and video. The only song you haven’t heard from the Close To The Edge album is SIBERIAN KHATRU and the studio recording of this is amazing.
If you like the live feeling but would like a little better sound quality I recommend the album "Yessongs" (this has been my favorite live album for decades) These are 2 hour concert recordings (from their 1972/73 tour) "And You And I" is also on it and for example (my recommendation) "Close To The Edge".
Hi Elok, lovely reaction, this song blew my mind in '74 and got me into Yes, it's been a musical love affair since. Recommend you listen to "Heart of the sunrise" from the Fragile album, this live clip is from the '91 Union tour with the two 80's line-ups (Yes/ABWH) together on stage in the Yes supergroup ua-cam.com/video/x9WtHvibwpY/v-deo.html Cheers
One of their most majestic masterpieces, "Awaken" was performed live with Jon and Todmaster & Orchestra and left off the cashew on the fruit. By that I mean that the living organism, called "Awaken", on their studio version, extruded a little cashew right at the end, and many agree that it is better without it. I would diagram it like this: Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Steve. Anyways...And You and I...the studio version deserves a few hearings. It uses acoustic guitar, which seemed overblown here on this live version. Much more tender. And the triangle wears a crown, and does not succumb to the drown of live extraneity. The real jewel though is on the other side, where you will find Close to the Edge, which I think you may have reviewed, because I seem to recall someone questioning that you would know of Siddhartha, which I assume you do. Who knows? Close to the edge down by the river. O Nodi Re... ekti kotha shudhai shudhu tomare. Great song by Hemant Kumar, and video clip from Siddhartha on the UA-cams. Would make for an interesting reaction/review. Right up there with Awaken. Universal peace through music. db
In my opinion the studio recording is better, but this live version will suffice. You should review what Yes considers their signature identifying song, that truly defines what Yes is all about, and that is their song Awaken…the ending is absolutely heavenly, it will stir your soul.
And You and I is a great yes song but the mixing and recording quality of this video is not the best I have heard. The studio version on the Close to the Edge Album is perfectly recorded. Nearly all other Yes live material is on song, note perfect, fantastic mixing and recording quality. Please look for the another version of this song or go to the original version from Close to the Edge. For live material the Yessongs album set from this era is perfection. Their professional studio sound engineer helped put Yessongs together. In my opinion Yessongs is is about the best live album set ever made and the songs are better than the studio versions. Enjoy your Yes journey it is a wonderful ride. Many thanks for your reaction.
UA-cam do your magic, and please get me from 7k to 10k Subscribers! Awww Thankyouu ❤

No.. I agree with you totally!
Imagine being there !!!❤°LOL. They were so beautiful on stage that it is other worldly in every way. 😍 Its so perfect that the music becomes a life of it own.
First saw Yes live in 1968. They blew me away. Have followed them ever since and Have all their albums most on vinyl.

Excellent to see them perform this live. Every member of the band is on point. I love Jon Anderson’s vocals on this song.👍
Listen to how like fine wine, this song evolved over time. 30 years later, in the concert:
"Symphonic Yes, Amsterdam 2001"
Peak. Climax. Pure heaven.

I met him. He's also the origin of when I started to love playing piano
This live version is better than on the studio album. One of my favourite YES songs. 👍❤
the studio version is perfection so that says it all
Great reaction Elok!! You picked a great version of the song!!
How's about some Deep Purple their first big hit "Hush" will do nicely

for more great Progressive Rock, try a group called Procol Harum, and a song called "Shine on Brightly"

Maybe "Starship Trooper" for the next Yes L live reaction? The Lugano 2004 version is generally well regarded: ua-cam.com/video/y3dTfmp_6t0/v-deo.html
