Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad certainly wasn't one of the better Power Rangers clones, but I still watched and enjoyed it.
i can't help but chuckle whenever i say 'superhuman samurai cyber squad' out loud
I found Superhuman Samurai to be a tongue in cheek parody of the genre and in that way superior to Power Rangers. It just didn't take the parody to the extreme that Teenage Tatooed Alien Fighters from Beverly HIlls or that one Animaniacs episode did.
@@jessewilley531 One difference. Syber Squad is based on an actual Japanese Sentai like Power Rangers, unlike Tattooed Fighters which was completely original.
@@RM2011ish Yeah, but if you watch Sentai or Gridman (both of which Shout TV have or had) you'll see 'based on a Japanese show' is only a very loose term. Unlike Ultraman which tried to remain as faithful as possible to the source material, Power Rangers and Superhuman Samurai basically took the fight scenes and crafted their own stories. It is like saying Japanese Spider-Man is based on the comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. (They aren't.)
Suuuuuuuper HUMAN Samurai!
As soon as I saw Servo, I clicked. I loved Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad and had some of the toys. It was a bit ahead of its time with the whole battling Kilokhan basically overt the internet. Plus Tim Curry voices Kilokhan. Win win! Total Power Rangers knock off but fun! What a nostalgia trip!
Wasn't a knock off. Two completely different shows even in Japan. Power Rangers morphed and had zords, SSSS(or Gridman in Japan) is based around the insides of computers and systems like that, power grids, banks and more.
Same.
I've been trying to remember Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad for years. I even binged watched VR troopers recently thinking I was thinking of a weird episode.
Legit. THANK YOU!
You're very welcome. I'm glad we could help
WTF!!! I’ve been trying to find this show for years!!!! I knew I wasn’t crazy
Did you watch the sequel series
@@kashking2276I believe it's on Netflix with its sequel show
Superhuman Samurai syber Squad had the best toys! Drago coming apart and fitting onto Servo is one of the best toy designs ever!
Samurai Squad wasn't really cancelled. They only had around 36 episodes of the original show to take battle scenes from and didn't want to license a different show to fill in.
Did you watch the sequel series
@@A_child_of_the_3_and_1-np8tm Gridman F was never made. And Boys invent great hero, SSSS Gridman, SSSS Dyzenon, and Gridman universe are all anime.
@aliastheabnormal I wasn't asking you. Besides. Sequel is still a sequel. Hater.
@@deathmetal271 Netflix says otherwise
I loved superhuman samurai cyber squad so much when I was a kid!
me too! I still have fond memories of watching the show with my siblings.
Me 2
same. I don't remember it being bad as a kid. It was catchy and for me more appealing than non stop Power Rangers. While I had completely forgotten about the show, when I heard the intro it all came flooding back.
When SHS came out, I stop watching PR. Then SHS hot canceled and junior high school happened
@@pa.encema2821 judging by your spelling, I take it you didn’t finish.
Need a list of all the power ranger clones in the 90s. Beetleborgs doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
110%
Don’t forget Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, the Celtic fantasy series that still had giant robots fighting Monsters. And there was the one time that the live action ninja turtles crossed over with power rangers.
Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills
Saban’s Masked Rider
@@keithtorgersen9664I don't remember any giant robots in Mystic Knights
The grandma on "All American Girl" had our family in stitches hilarious and great show from the end of my first decade.
yeah she was the funniest character from the show.
Yep, the grandma was the only character I remembered from that show.
All you need to know about "All American Girl" is that the network gave her notes that she was too fat to play herself. She ended up in the hospital due to kidney failure caused by extreme dieting.
yeah, that's pretty horrible.
That's hilarious
@beanbean78 your mom was hilarious
@@oldgenesys7886right, because his mom really should've swallowed him. Instant and immediate regret on her part.
What really happened to the Cosby Mysteries was the simple fact that The Simpsons utterly destroyed Cosby's last show The Cosby Show. As well as an ongoing fight with Eddie Murphy. As well as ongoing flips in theaters Cosby stared in that pretty much showed the end of Cosby's fame at the time. Cosby did try one more thing with a show called Cosby that lasted 4 seasons, but it never got the high ratings that The Cosby Show once had.
Thank you
I only remember VR.5 out of those, but I loved VR.5. I was so obbsessed with it and was sad, that it was so short.
This channel is super underrated man. Nice work.
Thank You!
Loved VR5. Anthony Stewart Head is always amazing. I wish it would have lasted longer.
I came here to mention him. Disappointed he didn't get a shout out.
AJ's Time Travelers and Under One Roof look really interesting.
OH MY GOD! THAT HUMAN FLY FROM AJ'S TIME TRAVELERS HAS BEEN BURNED INTO MY MEMORY FOR YEARS!
I thought it was from Beakman's World since I was 6! Oh man, talk about core memory unlocked!!!
This show sticks in your head, but not as a solid memory. There are places on Reddit and Tropes where you describe stuff you remember but don't know the name of and other users try to figure out what it was. "A.J.'s Time Travelers" has come up several times.
@@leesherman5192 Absolutely bonkers, honestly.
As a matter of fact, the "SSSS" in 'SSSS Gridman' is literally an acronym for the Americanized title 'Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad'! =)
I loved VR.5 and The Cosby Mysteries! 😭
I have fond fond memories of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. Watched the heck out of it. It actually originated from a Japanese Sentai series called Hyper Agent Gridman, which eventually spunoff into an action packed anime series (SSSS.Gridman and Dynazenon, plus a movie) which were all quite awesome.
Funny enough Syber Squad is quite faithful to the original concept of Gridman, only everything was Americanized with a Saved by the Bell kinda vibe.
You could argue the SSSS in the anime titles came from Syber Squad.
Totally agree
The one son in The Boys Are Back is played by George Newbern, the voice of Superman on the Justice League cartoon.
Nice
I knew that one of the little kids was familiar but just realized from checking IMDB that it was the little boy on the movie "Liar, Liar".
Wow, this is the first episode of yours ever where I've not heard of a single one of these shows! And here I thought I was the Queen of obscure TV shows... 😭
😆 it happens
You ain’t alone 😂 I only remember Super Human Samurai Syber Squad 😭
I vaguely recall watching the Margaret Cho sitcom.
Me too
BD wong aka (future Law and Order: SVU's Special Agent George Huang) played her brother in the show too.
Watch any if her standup shows. She never forgot about it either...
It's so weird how Penn Gillette managed to appear in at least one out of two of all of these shows. Guy must have been everywhere in the 90s.
I watched at least 3 of these 10 shows: Syber-Squad, Cosby Mysteries and All-American Girl.
Did Cosby solved his own Crimes? 😅
(Sorry, it was too tempting)
@@DasKame He's still working on that one.
I remember all American girl. That wasn’t too bad
I remember liking it.
I actually met John De Lancie at a convention, and when I went to get my picture taken with him, I said, “You probably don’t hear this very often, but I actually loved the show legend.”
I’m honestly not even sure if he remembered it because he looked at me like he was confused and just said, “Oh me too.” Then took the picture.
Awesome
I met him at my first Star Trek convention in an out 1994😅 I got a signed headshot. He had a “robust” ego
Superhuman Samurai squad aka Gridman. I loved this show. Underrated.
LOL at Dennis Rodman wearing a t-shirt that says "Rodman" just in case people don't know who it is.
😆 I know right
I freaking LOVED Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad! I used to watch that every morning before school and even named my pet gecko Servo. To be fair, I barely paid attention to the human parts, was mostly waiting for the monster of the episode to show up and then get to see the big fights in cyber space. I also remember Legend being pretty alright, nothing super amazing just like, yeah if it's on I'mma watch it sort of thing. The rest of the shows, can't say I was super familiar with any of them, I think I caught some of AJ's Time Travelers once and immediately changed the channel, lol.
Born in 87 and I've only heard of Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad. I loved it and all the power ranger clones. I had a lot of toys.
It's good to see some of these shows I've never heard of. I was stationed in Germany in 1994 and never even knew these shows existed
U really bring back memories. Greatly enjoy your content.
Thank you
Many of these shows aired during my later teenage years going to the mall, fishing, sports, and girls had my attention I do recall most of the shows, though great upload.
I ain't gonna lie, when I saw the thumbnail I thought that was Ultraman 😆
It basically is Ultraman, just fighting inside a computer. The original Japanese version, Gridman, was made by Tsuburaya Productions - the creator of Ultraman. He also had a lot of the same powerups and attacks.
So legend did exactly as moon girl and devil dinosaur has done, any time it starts showing what it could be, wich is great, they do something immediately to bring the show back to meh
The fun thing od Samurai Syber Squad is that Japan loves it so much that it's canon to SSSS Gridman. It's so great that Japan loved it. Kinda like how we love Samurai Pizza Cats and it bombed in Japan.
To be fair, 'Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad' actually has a fanbase loyal enough that the franchise got a slight upgrade as an anime; 'SSSS Gridman'. =)
Probably the Japanese original
@@napoleonfeanor Not exactly. The 'SSSS Gridman' anime actually acknowledges the U.S. plotline and incorporates it into the story. ; )
I remember watching Super Human samurai Syber Squad, and collecting the toys. It was adapted from Gridman, and ended, because the source material ended.
I loved Superhuman Samarai Sybersquad,I would watch it every day before school.
This channel is amazing at unlocking random memories. While I have a vague memory of some of these shows. The thing that got me most in this video was the containers of juice in the opening for The Boys are Back @3:20 I haven't thought about those in years.
OMG, I have been trying to think of the name of Superhuman Samurai for about 2 years now 😂 This video just made my day
Glad We could help
I vaguely remember VR 5, Sliders and The X-Files being on the Fox Friday night line up.
I remember that era. I was struck by odd similarities between "V.R.-5" and "Sliders" despite their totally different premises. They both showed us C.G.I. tunnels in each episode, and they both had voices whispering in each commercial bumper. "Sliders" won me over rather quickly, but I was always on the fence over whether "V.R.-5" was a good show.
@@leesherman5192 I remember Sliders and the X-files, but can't recall VR 5.
Sliders was severely underrated.
Samurai Cyber Squad felt like a fake MMPR you'd see a kid watching IN a movie.
Wow, haven’t thought about “superhuman samurai cyber squad” in probably 25 years.
Memories
The Japanese version of the show Superhuman Samurai Syber Sqaude continues this very day as Gridman
Awesome
I LOVED Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad
Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad was among the best of the old programs of the 1990s. And Beetle Borgs and Mystic Knights, etc.
Nice
Legend was one of my favorites & the one show I bring up when someone asks which show got cancelled too early.
I bet my 13 Year old self would loved that show. Sadly, it was never in germany
Servo is amazing
I love the channel!
"Legend" kind of sounds like a "Brisco County Jr" knock off.
Definitely
It kind of was. I remember having Dejavu watching the previews.
I loved super human Samurai cyber squad. It was getting soo good before it got canceled
Finally, The Review, you've brought some more that I really remember!
I was a HUGE MMPR fan, but by 95 I was coming out of it, so the Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad dropped, it was already lame. Forgot about Tim Curry being in there, I'll have to check some clips.
The Boys Are Back, I got nothin' there, it just looks as generic as can be.
VR.5, god I love these early internet thriller type shows and movies, they are always hilarious.
Legend, don't recall that one, needs Tim Curry again, ideally from the movie Legend.
I wanted to watch All-American Girl, but my parents hated Margaret's comedy, so they said no to the show.
Remember the Cosby Mysteries SNL sketch where Adam Sandler played Cosby? Look it up.
No clue on Misery Loves Company, looks dumb tho.
AJs Time Traveler's, that theme sounds familiar as heck, but it could just be the singers. Sounds like Mark Mothersbaugh with Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson.
Under One Roof is vaguely familiar, my folks loved James Earl Jones so it may have been screened in our home at some point.
Thanks, The Review!
No problem, thanks for sharing. Nice to see you back for another dose
Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad was an absolute favorite of mine. I owned a bunch of the toys, which I still think are amazing.
Also, why did every single boy in the 90's have that awful haircut? You know the one.
Yes, I know what you mean 😆
Are you talking about the hair do that looks like they just woke up and got out of bed but didn't brush or comb their hair and then just put hair gel in without shaping it, leaving it looking spiky on top and sloppy on the sides? Yeah I know that hair style. You can blame Buffy The Vampire Slayer for that. David Boreanaz started that look when he played the good vampire Angel on the series. Back in the late 1990s, all of the white guys in teen movies had that look. From Josh Hartnett in the Faculty to Brendan Fehr in Roswell to Jimmy Fallon on Saturday Night Live.
Lol! That look lasted from 1997 to about 2004. So it was seven years of guys 17 to 24 looking like they they were unkept and didn't know anything about personal grooming, lol! 😂
I was not prepared for that 30-year old high schooler lmao
Between that and Bill Cosby dosing audiences...
Man, survivorship bias is real. The only one of these I remember is SSSS.
Cybe squad came out when i was 12 and at the end of my love for that, VR Troopers and Power Rangers. I still have toys from the three shows alongside books and some vhs tapes! Once i was a teen i left those tyowr of shows behind as well as my pog collection!
Oh yeah Legend! I loved that show! Richard Dean Anderson and John De Lancie. It was goofy and fun and I enjoyed it.
Loved Super Human Samurai Syber Squad!
LOL! Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad was actually pretty enjoyable. Goofy, but not as annoyingly serious as VR Troopers. Both were also better than most of modern TV.
For Superhuman Samurai Syber-squad, despite it failing here in the west it continued to prosper in Japan during this current decade with 2 anime and a movie
nice
Did you ever watch SSSS.Gridman?
@@ericstelzman5190 it’s on my to do list I want to watch the original Gridman then SSSS.
I love Hal Linden! He was foxy even as an older man with that silver hair ❤
All American Girl really messed up by making it a regular book store instead of the adult book store she actually grew up in. Also I think she was dating Tarantino at the time.
As a rule of thumb, if actress Essence Atkins is in the cast of a show, that series is usually on bought time.
Theres gotta be a record for her as to of how many cancelled shows shes been apart of.
Almost like Billy Burke
Well, this time surprisingly dad's VHS collection didn't help, as I can't say I'm familiar with any of these shows. Only Hardy Boyz I know about in 1995 was Matt and Jeff in WWF when they were the doormen for the King of the Ring PPV. A bit of wrestling trivia for you there. 😉 However, found a good amount of them on UA-cam, so would have those to check out. Also, noticed a couple of times, mainly because I was using it to double check the names, the name tag on the side was off saying the series that you featured previously. Anyways, enjoyed this, thank you.
yeah sorry about that
WWF, Hardy boys 😂
Nice pull 🤙
Was Lita around yet? I think that’s when I was pulling away from WWF
I actually watched "The Boys Are Back," "Legend," and "The Cosby Mysteries" but completely forgot about those shows until I watch your video.
Instant flashback
The company DiC...was on a downward spiral at this point in time. DiC shows dipped in quality in the mid to late 90's. This is why the DiC dub of Sailor Moon failed in 1995 because DiC had to censor it to kingdom come. ViZ media came along later on and fixed Sailor Moon.
Such a shame
As a Brit I've not heard of most of these shows, but love the 90's throwback. Your narration and in-depth knowledge is top quality!
Awesome thank you
Let's be clear, here: the WB didn't just "show up." At least not to my memory, anyway. They took over for the WGN, which was a Chicago-based station - even though I found out later it was in more markets than just Chicago. (Like Houston.) Just like how Fox took over for a different network on the channel THAT was on, as well. (I used to have an old TV where the channels all had separate push-buttons on the side. I still remember the year the one marked "60" suddenly became "50" onscreen, even though the physical button never changed - & there already having been a button for "50.")
The only time ACTUALLY new channels showed up was when cable TV was invented - & even then, there were plenty that were offshoots of known airwave stations like ABC & CBS.
Out in PNW, it wasn't a station. Just random after midnight music videos and anime movies like "Crying Freeman" and "Vampire Hunter D".
In the New York area, the WB also took over an existing station, that used to be called WPIX.
Margaret Cho has been very vocal about the way she and the cast were treated by the producers and the network. It wasn't good.
A+ video!
Awesome shows and video!
Thanks again! Nice to see you back
Syber Squad managed to get more episodes than it's source material so it has that going for it (they re-used Japanese footage from previous episodes. Gridman was popular in Japan and was even extended beyond what it was supposed to run but ultimately got canceled due to production issues and Tsubaraya burning a butt load of money on Ultraman the Ultimate Hero)
Maaan, UNDER ONE ROOF tv series already got my interest. I will hunt for those episodes.
SSSS did have its effects for the better down the road in that it played into the creation of _SSSS Gridman_ and _SSSS Dynazenon_ in Japan decades later.
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad did'nt get a continuation but the original series its based on got an anime reboot that even has SSSS as part of its name in direct reference to the Americanized version.
I miss Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. I used to watch that early mornings.
1995 was the year I really started working full time after school, so this is where my tv memories get fuzzy
Didn't miss much
@@TheReviewStudios I didn’t think so😂🤣
Oh man. I loved Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad as a kid.
Tim Curry is just amazing in everything.
SuperHuman Samurai Cyber Squad was my second favorite power rangers related show. I was 12 when it come out an never missed an ep. Its how I became a Mathew Laurence fan
Cool
I actually kinda loved AJs Time Travelers as a kid. It was a totally adequate kids educational show in the vein of Beakman’s World.
I was a HUGE fan of Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad and I enjoyed the original Japanese Gridman. SSSS Gridman is also an amazing anime series.
I'm not going to lie, I loved Superhuman Samurai.
Cyber squad my fav when I was little glad they mentioned it on here I always wondered what happened to that show
AJ Time Travelers theme by the B-52s is hittin hard
yes!
I liked A.J.'s Time Travelers from what I can recall of it 🙂
I remember watching AJ's Time Travelers. Oof, I feel old.
Do you remember any of these?
Yes, I remember these shows.
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad would make a great anime series.
It actually has two series: SSSS Gridman from 2018 and SSSS Dynazenon from 2021. They are produced by Studio Trigger, the same company that made Cyberpunk: Edgerunners a few years back.
@@ericwolford5685 Cool 👍🏾
I remember hearing the theme song for superhumanSCS. I don’t remember seeing it. Was a little too old I think. Would have been in middle school. Thought this show was more successful. The only show I remember at all on this list.
AJs time Travelers looks like a bit from MST3K
Unlocked a few very deep memories here
Your footage for superhuman samurai came from wgno in New Orleans! That takes me back to my childhood
That's so cool
we sure loved adapting a lot of japanese superhero sentai stuff back in the 90s here in the usa. power rangers, big bad beetle borgs, superhuman samurai, vr troopers...
Frank and Joe?!? I thought it was Matt and Jeff!
AJ's Time Travelers was FANTASTIC!
yes
As soon as I heard "Premiering on UPN", I knew what went wrong.
Star Trek: Voyager made it through ok.

OMG I remember superhuman samurai squad I couldn't get the theme song out of my head lol
I remember watching Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad when I was a kid it's excellent and I wish that a second season would happen. 😀👍
Large *number* of short-lived TV shows.
the thumbnail reminded me of strange journey more than some old show.
You forgot to switch the title to "Under One Roof" after "AJ's Time Travelers" on the TV set.
