George Clooney appeared in a lot of failed pilots, before he became well known. The late Robert Urich appeared on some not so successful TV shows, along with successful TV shows. Jerry O'Connell has been in show business, since he was 12 years old. He have been on a number of shows that were successful and not so successful. But he has always worked. Not always as an actor, but he always work. Look at his bio. He has a long lists of credits. He currently a co-host on "The Talk" and hosts the game show "Pictionary". I guess some only measure success, if they're constantly hounded by the paparazzi. But there are some actors that aren't and has work steadily. Not every actor wants to be a "star". Whatever the hell that means. It means different things to everyone. Most show biz types just want to be working. Jerry O'Connell IS and has been working. Just because you haven't seen him in anything, doesn't mean he hasn't worked. But that's how haters think.
I knew about the Heights. I remember Golden Palace and Camp Wilder. I had a crush on MP Keller and I knew Jerry from My Secret Identity. I watched Rhythm and Blues a few times. I knew there was a show "Bill & Ted" but never saw it.
I remember the Heights I even remember a couple of the cast members made a mall appearance at my local mall, but not the big local mall in Florence, 7:08 the small one that only had about three shops in it and one department store. The song was great though
I think The Golden Palace was only supposed to be one season with 24 episodes. It was not meant to go on to a second season, because the ladies had other Broadway shows they were working on. Beatrice Arthur appeared in the two part episode for one more time, before moving on to other things. Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan and Betty White moved on to other work. Betty White reprised her acting career in various movies and sitcoms, notably Hot In Cleveland. In this role, she reminded me a lot of Beatrice Arthur's roles in both Maude and The Golden Girls.
The Heights was one of the best shows ever! So disappointing that it didn't do better. I bought the soundtrack, and it's still one of my favorites I'm sad that Covington Cross wasn't on this list! It was another amazing show that ended too soon!
I remember Covington Cross, I had a huge love for medieval history and stories at the time. Along with Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Wonder Years, it was one of first serious shows that caught my attention. Future star Daniel Craig even appeared in one episode as a bit player.
I remember the show, wasnt into that whole teen drama crap but I remember some of the girls at my school saying they werent gonna watch it due to the lead singer's character being abusive to Kelly on 90210. I'm like "Yall gonna boycott a show because one person plays a butthole on another?"
Great video as always! And, because I’m an inveterate pedant regarding English: “fictitional” is not a word, rather “fictitious” or “fictional” are the words you were looking for.
I wonder if The Heights would have lasted longer, had Alex Desert had a bigger role. Dude's a legend as 1/2 of Hepcat, and has starred or co-starred in the first Flash live action series, in 2 seasons of Boy Meets World as Eli, Media Arts teacher, and in a late 90's sitcom with Ted Danson.

I'm thinking this trope must have all started after the movie "Thelma and Louise" came out or something. . .

I vaguely remember the theme song but I do remember the lady saying on there ,"camp wilder is closed" I forgot Jerry o Connell was on there. I remember him most from my secret identity and sliders. Delta I remember a guy saying "rock n roll" and then people looked at him and he said, "country!" Bill and Ted's excellent adventures I remember most the manager of that store and traveling through time to king Arthur's time finding himself in possession of the sword. "It's the king" someone said. The golden palace...I remember most how it came on and that it was on CBS.
I am still an avid watcher of The Golden Girls. I watched Golden Palace but it just didn’t have the same chemistry. Bea was important in the group but I think the lack of chemistry was more than just her loss. I think it would’ve been smarter to just focus on the ladies. That was the secret to success of Golden Girls. The extra characters in Palace just didn’t add to the likability factor
I agree. I have watched every episode of the Golden girls probably 20 times each. It’s my comfort show. I watch it to fall asleep almost every night. I think the lack of success of golden palace was, as you mentioned, too many extra characters. The magic of the golden girls was that key core cast, augmented by great guest stars. There was just too much going on in Golden Palace.
I have seen a few of these shows but my favorite was The Golden Palace which I think was much better than given credit for I believe had the show been given the 2nd season it would have been a hit also Bill Engvall played a character in one of the episodes he was Blanche's son Matthew Devereaux
I know The Golden Palace, but the only other one I recall is Laurie Hill and I never even watched it. The name just stuck in my head from ads in the TV guide

I watched every episode and it was funny! I was so disappointed when it was canceled. And then The Heights...... LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! I watched 90210 and Melrose Place, but The Heights was amazing! Each episode featured a song from the show’s soundtrack, which I also loved and listened to constantly. I was drawn to it due to my love for Charlotte Ross, my favorite actress. But I really enjoyed the whole show, and was so bummed when it too, was canceled. I swear networks don’t give shows a chance, they just axe 🪓 them when they’re not IMMEDIATE hits. A lot of times a show needs to find its audience, they can’t do that when they get canceled so quickly. A lot of shows that are now thought of as hits, were spared only because the networks had nothing else in the can. Such a shame. These two particular shows aren’t even on DVD 📀, that would be awesome, at least we’d have the memories, by watching the whole series on DVD 📀

Somehow I remembered the names Vinnie Verduci and Ray Pruit before they were mentioned on the video... then I remember it was from spots they did on other more popular shows.
The heights failed and never really took off because it centered on a character no one liked. On 90210, Jamie Walter's character was physically abusive to Tori Spellings Donna. We were all too happy when she dumped his ass for Bryan Austin green.

@@youknowwhoyouare2269Shocking? Never said that. Necessary, considering it's obviously a different show in a completely different setting? Not entirely. But your attempt at "snark" was noted.
I think The Golden Palace wasn't given a fair shake. It was was a good show. I think people just expected The Golden Girls II and tuned out when it wasn't. I'm also always annoyed when networks pit new shows up against juggernauts. Any show put up against The Simpsons in the 90's was going to fail. The same happened all the time with good shows later on that were put up against The X-Files.
Yeah I see where you are coming from with that. I want to add that in 1992, NBC move a different world to 8:00 p.m. to go head-to-head with the first season of Martin and that along with a certain episode of a different world led to NBC canceling a different world Midway into their 6th and final season. It did get a series finale, but not only it aired on a saturday, but it received very little promotion.

Heights, Camp Wilder, Flying Blind. I watched Flying Blind the most of the three.
Oh wow, Don Cheadle was GORGEOUS when he was younger! 😍
Huh?
How many chances did Jerry O’Connell get to become a star? He headlined so many flops it’s ridiculous.
I thought I was the only one who thought that.
Well he did have that one show that was pretty good.
Sliders @@Naeem_El
It would only be a few years later that Jerry would go on to star in the scifi cult favorite Sliders.
These videos are great. Looking forward to the rest of the 90's and maybe the 80's after that?
Thanks, more coming soon
I remember the Heights I even remember a couple of the cast members made a mall appearance at my local mall, but not the big local mall in Florence, 7:08 the small one that only had about three shops in it and one department store.
The song was great though
Wow can't believe you mentioned the hat squad.
I loved that show.
Thanks for the review!
I remember Flying Blind. I actually enjoyed it back then. :D
I loved The Heights. I still watch it on old vhs recordings.
The Simpsons has been on Sunday for so long that I forgot that it used to be on Thursday.
I like how, even with the low quality video, James Tolkan is recognizable by voice in that Hat Squad clip.
The hat squad failed cuz they were real slackers.
Loved the theme song to golden place
The Heights was one of the best shows ever! So disappointing that it didn't do better. I bought the soundtrack, and it's still one of my favorites
I'm sad that Covington Cross wasn't on this list! It was another amazing show that ended too soon!
Yeah, my sisters loved The Heights
I remember Covington Cross, I had a huge love for medieval history and stories at the time. Along with Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Wonder Years, it was one of first serious shows that caught my attention. Future star Daniel Craig even appeared in one episode as a bit player.
I remember the show, wasnt into that whole teen drama crap but I remember some of the girls at my school saying they werent gonna watch it due to the lead singer's character being abusive to Kelly on 90210. I'm like "Yall gonna boycott a show because one person plays a butthole on another?"
Out of all those shows, I only remember seeing one episode of Bill and Ted and have no memory of the others.
Looking forward for the cartoons from 1992 that ran from one season next
Pete and Pete is my favorite. I'm still waiting for them to release it to streaming
I loved the Hat Squad and Golden Palace.
Flying Blind was my favorite. Loved that show.
Great video as always!
And, because I’m an inveterate pedant regarding English: “fictitional” is not a word, rather “fictitious” or “fictional” are the words you were looking for.
Thanks for sharing!
That "Canadian Sitcom" Jerry O'Connell was on is called "My Secret Identity." It was/is awesome! 😎❤
never heard of the heights but I was really into Catwalk back then. Same idea.
I wonder if The Heights would have lasted longer, had Alex Desert had a bigger role. Dude's a legend as 1/2 of Hepcat, and has starred or co-starred in the first Flash live action series, in 2 seasons of Boy Meets World as Eli, Media Arts teacher, and in a late 90's sitcom with Ted Danson.
yep the show w/ Ted Danson was called Becker which also featured a Future Jadza Dax aka Terry Ferrell as well
@@SchofieldAJ Thanks for that info. I had forgotten the title.
@@paulportell3748 No Problemo Neighbrin-O always there t help as Becker is still on in Syndication on Both AntennaTV n R-wind group of Stations so as far as OTA it's there as I don't know if any Streamer added it!
I haven't heard of ANY of these shows. 1992...I didn't even own a television at that time. Seems like I didn't miss much! 😂😂
re: "Delta". . . Love how back then, whenever a show was about a middle aged, freshly divorced, down on their luck, now "chasing their dream" woman, they always made her the owner of a classic car of some sort. . . usually a convertible. I'm thinking this trope must have all started after the movie "Thelma and Louise" came out or something. . .
The only show I recognize is Golden Palace, but I didn't watch it when it aired. I had a feeling it wasn't going to go the distance.
Shows i remember
Rhythm & Blues
The heights(even though i didn't watch it much)
The Golden palace
Bill & Ted Excellent adventures
Golden Palace wasn't bad but it just didn't have the charm of The Golden Girls
I remember Delta, the golden palace, camp wilder and bill and Ted's excellent adventures! I remember the camp wilder episode where one of the boys asked, "does Jason play hockey." I vaguely remember the theme song but I do remember the lady saying on there ,"camp wilder is closed" I forgot Jerry o Connell was on there.
My mom watched the Golden Girls, and I watched with her sometimes. Now though, I love watching the re-runs. I don't remember Golden Palace at all.
I remember the promo for “Delta;” I remember her turning to the camera and saying “I’m back, and I’m blonde.”
how can i remember a tv show from 1992 five years later i was born
Cheers was probably the last show I watched. I’m in my 60s and haven’t missed television a bit.
Pete, Pete's brother Pete, and me, Ellen. Indelibly burned into my mind.
Yup I watched Camp wilder, the golden palace, the heights. The rest isn't in my memory bank.
I loved Camp Wilder and was disappointed when it was cancelled
I know The Golden Palace, but the only other one I recall is Laurie Hill and I never even watched it. The name just stuck in my head from ads in the TV guide
If it weren't for the intro, I wouldn't have remembered almost any of the shows in this video.
Hey thanks for watching and for commenting too!
I LUVED LUVED LUVED The Golden Palace, and The Heights. They were two of my favorite shows! I LOOOOVED The Golden Palace, even tho Bea Aurther was no longer on the show, it was such a hoot!
Completely agree! A lot of good shows gone too soon. Like you said, sometimes it takes time to find its audience.

I have seen everything she’s ever done! And although I love her in anything any role she does, she will forever ALWAYS ALWAYS be Eve Donovan to me. I was so disappointed when I read that she passed on returning to DAYS. I haven’t seen her in anything since Arrow,,,, that was quite some time ago. Do you happen to know if she’s retired from acting? Gawd I hope not. She is such a gem 💎!!!
How do you talk to angel it sounds good. Never heard it before..
Fortunately, I grew up in a time, during this time in my low teens, where I was told to get the hell out of the house. So, I didn't see any of these.
I thought I saw Jared Leto and the actress who played Rayanne Graff both from My So Called Life! And Jared won an Oscar for gosh sakes!
Jamie Walters was in season 5 of 90210 after The Heights was long over. Donna went on to date a football player all through the 6th season.
Nightmare Cafe is one of my favorite failed TV shows from '92. Only 6 episodes, but I managed to tape them all.
nice
I didn't mind Golden Palace. It's no Golden Girls, production wise, quality of script, But.. we have Blanch, Rose, Ma and Cheech friggin' Marin. As cherished characters that helped make the person I am today, I still have fond memories of what the girls did after Dorothy left❤.
Anything with a hot cup of Tea Leoni has got to be a winner 😂
I was 12 back in 1992 and I remember most of these shows but I never understood why golden palace failed because I thought it was slightly better than the golden girls? I loved it
I LOVED The Heights!
Thanks for watching
I don't remember any of these TV shows because in the 90s I was already working two jobs and had zero time for tv.
1:10 SUSAN SUGARBAKER was EVERYTHING
Golden Palace is great if you watch it for what it is and don't instantly compare it to the Golden Girls. It's, dare I say, underrated.
3 of the main characters were instantly compared with the show they made their name? Shocking
17:17 Weird that I'm randomly watching this video coincidentally on the literal 5 year anniversary of Danny Breen's death. He was the store manager in the Bill & Ted show. Weird kismet.
I remember him from Not Necessarily The News on HBO way back in the early 80s.
Taking a shot of vodka in honor of an OG comedic actor 🍻
I really loved Flying Blind. The theme song seared itself into my mind.
