You are one heck of a stellar farmer! Impressive, best part, is you remain down to earth and humble, never seen you loose your temper, good job. That shows you are a man with faith, inspirational!
Geez its so fascinating how your nests can end in august some years or push a month more. You would think that would affect how well the bees do in winter. Mind you your hives are looking just like mine in Ontario and we are a few weeks behind you typically, with weather as well. Ill see brood into week one or two of October at times, but i try to shut them down before that with syrup.
Hopefully your daughter stays at your side with the bees. It’s a great thing. I have my granddaughter. My kids don’t have much to do with the bees after growing up
Just tell her it's honey bee fuel.😁Making the baby Winter bees. I'll be starting my 2:1 internal syrup feeding the end of this week and giving them the last of their patties. They have been getting open 1:1 for the last month, man I would love a Fall flow. Time to get them fat and happy for Winter. Thanks for sharing Ian, Blessed Days...
@@aaronparis4714cappings get chewed up and spat out by the emerging bee's but the bee's do repurpose wax for capping brood. Lighter cappings are new wax that the bee's make when they're between 12-19 days old 😃👍 cappings usually end up on the floor of the hive especially during winter when the bee's uncap food frames
@@aaronparis4714 new wax mixed with repurposed wax sometimes from " burr comb" in other parts of the hive. The cappings look darker because most of the bee's live in the area where the brood is and travel across it more frequently, we call it "travel stain". Capped honey left in the hive for a few months darkens with it as well. 😃👍
Question you say your brood stops and you don’t like it are you Able to feed pollen and keep them brooding for a bit longer or You want brood to shut down now ?
I wish I had as many hives as you I wish I could spend all season long going threw hives I have 30 so I do get lots of in the box’s but I want to be working bees all day every day if you were close I would work for you for a few seasons for free just to learn

"And there's the queen, she's a beauty" I've never heard you say "boy that is one ugly queen"! 😂
Had a nice conversation with Sandy's aunt at Paradise village and she was reminiscing about your lodging with them in your university days
it's a good thing for you Ian you have to talk like a dad when your daughter is with ya. 🤭Helps with the slips of the tung from time to time.👍😂

Question why are some capped brood dark cappings and some are nice bright yellow cappings do they reuse capping when bees hatch ?

On the queenless hives could you not do an OAV and knock out the mites and then shake the bees on the ground?
Good idea, I think I'll do that with shake outs, give them a good OA shower before shaking-out.
Yes but that dosent shake virus

I think he is allowing them to shut down so that they will have more space to store syrup.

Thing is I don’t go through them, spot checks and broad sweeps
Where did you find these pails?
