- BeamNG Drive is one of the most detailed simulations of a car ever put in a game, and is one of the most unique gaming experiences you can have on PC gaming right now. But it's not perfect. Without optimisation, console readiness, and official multiplayer, BeamNG.drive may just stay in Alpha and away from the millions of people who'd love to play such an amazing game.
If you have a powerhouse of a PC though, pick it up today.

This game is way more optimized then it use to be. I bought this game in early access and the devs have poured their hearts into the game, and it shows. depends, a lot of people are on like a fx6300 which cant even run 1 car on the italy map for example and takes like 40 minutes to load in. that is a very bad pc set up. but most people playing this game have a really bad pc for some reason. and even decent pcs can run into issues which makes me more surprised so many people playing this game have a terrible pc that could barely run windows.
@@Lynnfield3440 that is quite an old cpu,11 years now.
My setup is an Rx560x with ryzen 5 2500u,and it runs most maps (except wcusa and maybe italy) at above 30 fps on normal graphics, there is a bit of lag spikes, but its not that bad, beamng also runs on an old game engine (torque3d with a lot of updates so no wonder its not the most optimised game, even then, there are worse optimised games (*cough* *cough* most triple a games))

the best thing about beamng is how you can just configure the tovyour personal preference, how you want it to be
If you're careful you can pull it off on a budget. I built a $500 tower with name brand parts that will run BeamNG in 1080p at 60FPS with any track, up to 10 AI vehicles and the graphics at max. It can be done if you do your research.
Runs great on my pc I built in 2016. It's not getting optimized, it's gonna get harder to run as they add more detail. This game isn't supposed to run on everyone's machine, it's supposed to be the best of the best.
that's just not true, they work a lot on optimization, go read the patch notes.
Off-roading in this game even feels better than most dedicated off-road games.
My $500 potato can run the game in about 30 to 40 FPS, which in my eyes is decent, but I can’t wait for it optimisation it’s gonna be amazing I can already tell.. and who knows if it goes rocketing up in price it would be my problem because I already bought it
Howuxh ram do you have?
My 240€ ($260) laptop can run the game with the same FPS. The only bad thing is that the vehicle selector ui is running really slow
My laptop can run it at around that on normal graphics, most maps too.
I don't think it can get that much more optimised, especially when there is more and more content added every update
also 7gb of (usable) ram, which with how much ram windows uses is pretty low
Guys what he meant is sure you can run the game offline. However, in multiplayer it is a struggle to get 8 players to play together at decent fps because of how intensive this game is on the CPU.
My ryzen 5 5600 and rtx 3060 can handle 10 players in multiplayer at 60 fps and its not a “powerhouse” of a pc
@bassdrumflextime1253 is it consistent 60 fps though? I got I7 9700 & rx6650xt, and each time someone spawnes or change the car it freezes other than the random drops in performance here and there. I think when they futher optimise Vulkan api, it will be much better as it basically daubles my fps.

Let’s be real - 16gb of ram ain’t really „high end“ nowadays
Beamg really doesn't require a lot of RAM. I had no trouble running it with 8gb before I upgraded.
16 is base level to be able to play any modern games, 32 and up is more on the high end side of things, but I still wouldn’t call 32 high end either
@@Scrawny_J and it still runs just fine with 8 gb albeit crashing more often which could be caused by a number of different things and not just low ram
With 32gb of ram I've seen my ram use go to 14-16gb of ram in beamng ngl
I spent $700 on a PC this june, with an RTX3060 12GB and i5 11400f, it runs on high with 110fps no cars, 90fps crowded.
To be honest, even though most pc's can run it at lower graphics settings, I hope they appreciate that some games CAN be a little exclusive to higher end pc's so we can have nice features like full simulations. also keep in mind optimization is not magic, you can make any game super optimized but at a certain point that means removing content.
Yep,optimization is not magic,it only works to a point, and even still the game is decently optimised, since it can run on like 8gb of ram(unless its pulling from my 3 external hard drived),and a laptop (which could be considered low end at this point) from i think 2017-2019,dunno from when exactly can run it perfectly fine at what the game calls "normal" graphics. And even then the game looks pretty darn good.
I run it on a 1060 4gb and a i7 8900k, always sit over 60fps with graphics on med/low. Get frame drops sometimes in multiplayer but definitely more than playable on my nearly 10 year old pc. The game is WAAY more optimized than it was in the beginning, I have thousands of hours and had hundreds before the game was even on steam. It’s absolutely mind bending to see beamng now vs 2013. Definitely my favorite game of all time.
top 3 things that will make beamng peak realistic:
1 . More parts flying out of the car. In the real crash, even if its not very bad, you can see alot of particles flying out
2. Paint scratches. If you slightly damage exterior there should be scratches
3. Bumpers, hoods, fenders, skirts can break apart. If you damage front bumper for example, its always the full bumper, but irl only a part can fall off
#3 is more of a limitation of computers, each part of the car is in a "breakgroup" and a breakgroup is basically a set of beams that sticks to other sets of beams but with enough force is ripped apart (i.e doors, bumpers, etc,if i remember correctly atleast) if you wanted to make bits of parts fly off and not the whole part, there would have to be a lot more, and current computers already struggle with somewhat complex jbeams, and you'd have to add more beams to make more detachable parts, inturn making it harder to run,and to add onto that, you'd have to add a few more triangles in the meshes (dae files) which would make it a tiny bit harder to run,not as impactful as the jbeam itself in terms of fpsthough

I used to play this on an i3 2100 and a gt 730. You do not need a powerhouse for a playable experience
Beam is cpu bound. The more vehicles you want tyr more cpu power you need. You only need a graphics card for the actual graphics so a mid range will do. My rtx 2060 runs at 70% high graphics
There is a mod that lets people with super high end and low end computers to enjoy it lets you tune the graphics far for than the base game does and lets you see the fps to know how that changes affect the game
Yoo kickstand as the backround music is hardddd
I run beamNG almost flawlessly with an 8 year old alienware with a GTX 970M and 16GB of RAM. as long as I don't spawn tons of traffic or push my GPU too hard it runs at a stable 30 FPS almost anywhere, which is good enough for me.
I have an 8gb RX580, 16gb of RAM and a Ryzen 2200G and the game run pretty damn well on almost max settings for me, hitting close to 100fps with occasional dips down to about 70. Not a low-end PC, but far from high-end, costing about £500 when I built it about 5 years ago. Don't know what you're complaining about.
I ran the game on an old HP Envy laptop that has an old i7 paired with a GT750M. You don't really need a powerhouse of a PC
Bro, u sure that this game needs a 'powerhouse of a pc'?? I mean, this game calculates 2000 TICKS PER SECOND for physics, and is playable on most of the PCs. This game is hella optimised
“It needs an absolute powerhouse to run” [Very loud incorrect buzzer]
If someone would release new GTA with beamNG physics, I would never acomplish anything in life, and would be completely lost in gaming.😂
The big issue is that things other than the car aren't destructible, i know it would take a lot, but damn do i want to drive into a building, glass, tree and see it break
They should make a smaller map with destructible buildings etc😲
I mean if they used rigidbody physics it could theoretically run at a nice framerate
***IF*** it gets official multiplayer. There are leaks of them clearly working with some testing of it. But they have stated clearly it was NEVER originally planned and even now they know its wanted but it MIGHT be impossible to do properly. So just because they are testing it, doesn't mean it will make it in the game.
I think it should stay as a “premium”game for high end pc. I mean think about it. It’s the worlds most technically advanced game in car physics. Ofc AC does better at the racing aspect but I don’t see the people able to demolish their cars in AC.
it's basically like running FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation like we do in engineering. Those sims take HOURS to compute. one guy I know tried something ridiculous and it said 10000 years to complete. I find it miraculous that a sim acting similar to FEA is even able to work decently at all with a useable frame rate. I wouldn't mind more info on how the game computes collision physics and how they optimised it to work in a game.
My pc has it running 60fps with an occasional dip of 48. At mostly high/ultra graphics. It's really fun when it runs well
I have a decade old PC (which to be fair it was a pretty good PC for it's time) and I can run it on high graphics at 30fps. What you really need is a lot of ram, the game isn't too heavy on your gpu.
My pc is not new and its not old but if you run it on low graphics jt still looks relatively good
I used to run it in 2021 with R5 1400, GTX 1650 Super, 16GB Ram mid settings and Reshade at 45-60 FPS. (Max 3-4 vehicles at once). Hopefully build a new pc for beamng someday

Lmao did not mention the lack of tyre thermals
I'm pretty sure I'm coming up on 3000 hours on the game now. I don't really enjoy video games as much as I once did but I still play this game daily
The thing that beamng needs is an actual tire model
It's still impressive on its own, multiplayer or not. Car games don't have to be multiplayer to be good or fun.
I think the bigger problem is that the tire model isnt great and the dry asphault turn into a slip n slide above 20 mph
Tire type, car weight, center of mass, and car height. Those all are factors
@@Daniel_Temo I know that, but none of them seem to matter
Its probably because you are driving cars with a keyboard, try doing so on an actual car it will suck,i mean the tire model definitely isn't the best but, that may be one reason why.
Just turn it the graphics from high to medium or even low and remove dynamic reflections and it will run just fine. The game simulates even the tiniest thing on the car and is cpu and ram intensive.
The problem is not that it needs a good pc to run it. A lot of games need that. The problem is that its nothinge to do. Its only a map with a few cars. It has a few races and a poorly made career mode. I would like the game to have a lot more cars and focus more on racing. Like forza. The delivery part in career is amazing bud it needs other then that to be a good game.
I ran the game without a graphics car with a Ryzen 3 3200G with 16gb 2999mhz. And it wasn't that bad in 1080p. Sure it was on the lowest settings and an absolute PowerPoint sometimes but it's still doable
I've been playing it on my 2019 macbook pro 16 inch (core i7) for like 2 months now. It runs fine even on high graphics settings.

I think it's well optimized. It just needs a bit of polish, mainly the Vulcan version. Vulcan is always my go-to choice but in BeamNG it's very clearly a beta... they even warn you so no complaints.
It's less about how much it needs to simulate, and more that the game runs on a modified version of Quake 3D.
I mean my 3050Ti runs it on medium without any lag on Normal, so it definitely doesn’t need a powerhouse of a pc. Admittedly, the gpu is paired with ryzen 7 6800 with 16gb ddr5, and an external cooling stand helps keep the internal temperature of the pc lower.

I like how everyone say their worst pc has a crappy cpu and crappy graphics card and it runs fine, what they don’t know is it’s memory intensive, you need good ram for it, for the motherboard, idk if that contributes to it aswell
Love this game you don't need that crazy of a PC I was running it last year with a gtx 960 with in game traffic
The game is mostly CPU bound. The amount of cars you can spawn without UI slowdown depends on complexity of the vehicle you try to use.

For everyone out here who isn't sure if your computer is good enough:
My pc is from 2015 with a GTX970 and an i5 (4460) from that era. Runs perfectly fine on medium settings. For the amount of calculations being made for each crash and all the mechanics behind it, it is optimized almost perfectly in my opinion.
I have ultra graphics and it works perfectly. This is also my first pc, my grandpa and grandma have me 800$ for a pc that Cost 1500$ theyre really nice, it usually costed 1900$ but it was on a discount
That’s what I have been saying for the longest time now. When this game gets an official multiplayer and goes to console and has crossplay it will be the best car game without a doubt. I can’t wait for that to happen.
I run it on my steam deck at 60fps medium-low settings, you don’t need a powerhouse to run it lol
The Vulkan Renderer will change everything. And I think it is already running pretty well.
I used an ancient Lenovo think pad with 8gb ram for the longest time and yeah I had to play with low graphics but the game never had any lag (except for burnouts in the dirt or really really fast crashes) and I had a decent amount of mods running plus the game never crashed, only real issues I had was load times
I think the performance requirements are really quite reasonable. If anyone has doubts the multiplayer is well put together and good with friends on public servers.
