THE SONG
The water levels of DKC made a huge impression on me as a kid, with their endless MODE 7 ocean floor and eerie, atmospheric soundtrack. I used to play the first water level over and over just to listen to the music.
I used two samples from the original track - one is the note that's rising in pitch at the beginning and the other is the iconic sonar sound from the Roland R-8 (kindly sent to me by Sam Miller: / jamminsammiller .
THE ALBUM
'Songs from the Seas' is a follow-up to my album 'What the Forest Taught Me', a collection of forest themes from some of my favourite games.
THE ARTWORK
The cover artwork is based on 'Braving the Storm' by illustrator/artist Aric Salyer (check out his work at www.artstation.... I did this as a study a while ago, and when I started working on a water themed album I used it as a temp cover. I was going to replace it, but it stuck with the project so I asked Aric if he would be ok with me using my rip-off painting, and he said yes. :)
