Kain did not 'screw up' the timeline in Blood Omen 1 : He got to experience life from a non Human perspective and witness all of Humanity's flaws, deceit, lies, cruelty and lack of loyalty and he understood that such beings were not worth the sacrifice. Shortly after, he tried to find a way to still rescue Nosgoth, without letting it fall in Hylden hands. Kain, in Blood Omen 1, never had much agency : all of his moves had been carefully anticipated before his very birth and forced upon him from the very start. If anything, accepting the sacrifice would have 'screwed up' everything, as it would have meant offering Nosgoth to the Hylden (and Blood Omen 2 gave us glimpses of how bad things would be). The game was rigged from the start and Kain could only do one thing : survive until he found a way to actually solve all the problems all the players before him had created.
I'm just happy that something like this existed when I was growing up. I don't think there's one game that can compare to the story telling of this one or the voice acting. Just happy to have been alive while this was going.

Did you hear about the prequel graphic novel in the works?! It was announced this past week! This December on Kickstarter! Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver The Dead Shall Rise
@@christopheraaron1255 Kain not watching Raziel being thrown in wasn't due to anger, jealousy, arrogance, or contempt. It was because he couldn't stand the sight of a good friend being made to suffer for the sake of setting things right. It's one of many moments which cement him as one of the best anti-heroes in video game history.
I was looking for that comment. It's crazy how, after all those years, people still get it so completely wrong. We had so many scenes throughout the series that prove Kain has been trying to set things right for many centuries, instead of acting on jealousy and, yet, there are people that still can't get past Soul Reaver 1's introduction and see the greater picture. Many scenes were clearly unambiguous and showed that Kain was trying to create a being capable of free will, to fight destiny and save Nosgoth. Many other scenes were more subtle (like Kain being happy to see one of his most cherished possessions - his sword - being shattered and to see one of his most ferocious enemies - Raziel - survive his most powerful attack), but, no : It still doesn't matter, if people are going to remain stuck in Soul Reaver 1's introduction for decades, anyway.
@@jackwilliam4436 i just finished SR1 and it's pretty obvious Kain wasn't acting on jealousy or envy (even tho that's how Raziel perceived it at first). However i still don't get the full picture of things since it's the very first game of the saga i have finished, i'm about to start SR2. Question. Kain was trying to save Nosgoth, however he could've saved it if he sacrificed himself for what i have read and understood so far. Why did he need Raziel to save Nosgoth when he could've done it alone? Was it that he wanted to both save Nosgoth and the vampires? Does that mean Kain is actually a good guy trying to save everyone?
@elpogio4890 The pillars of Nosgoth need guardians, and without specifically vampire guardians, they go to crap. There need to be vampires for Nosgoth to survive... also, if Kain sacrificed himself he wouldn't be Kain.
I think I get the reason people say that Kain was Jealous is either they didn't play the games, didnt follow the story (because lets face it, it was a deep story) BUT also for slight spoilers and lack of insight for the future games. How would people know that many years later we would get SR2 and you would see Kain realized what he had to do to Raziel. If SR2 never came out, the narrative would be jealousy. But because we got SR2 we got that extra little plot twist that it was necessary. Much like the plot that Vampires are angels. Angels that protected humans but got cursed to feed on them by true demons.
"...they should simply finish Dead Sun", no, it was cancelled for a reason and it's better for it to stay dead. Despite its name, it had almost nothing to do with the franchise, it felt soulless. They went too far from the core with this one. Judging on the presented demo, I'm starting with the dialogue. It was dumbed down, having way too much profanity for no reason, while the franchise is known for the shakespearen style. The voice acting presented was decent, however the aforementioned dialogue didn't make it shine. The gameplay looked like one of the Arkham games, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, the gameplay not being the strong point of the LoK franchise. The community does not need a multiplayer game, but a closure to the story, something still focused on Kain, Raziel, The Elder God and the Hylden Lord who is trapped again in the Demon Realm. Too bad Dark Prophecy never saw the light of day, it is probably what we needed. Personally I'd want to see a remake of the franchise, revamping the combat and puzzles, with a level design similar to what Elden Ring brought to the gaming industry, while keeping the story, the OST and the voice acting intact.
Let's not forget how incredibly some games were remade. Resident Evil, Shadow of the Colossus etc. That's the level of attention LoK games need because they're too old and obsolete by now in terms of mechanics and graphics. I think remakes with the original stories would sell incredibly well. I don't know how much one remake would cost, for instance a remake of Soul Reaver 1 from the ground up, but it's what these games deserve.
They should bring back this amazing series. It is one of the BEST games during the 90s and it will be if it will given a chance to continue as a Remake and continue its plot.
4:58 we don't know if elder god revived him, even Raziel says this at some point. In fact there's the possibility of just being revived due to wheel of souls being stagnant which is why we see other soul wraiths in the ps2 game
they just need to finish kain's story. the last game ended on an epic cliffhanger long ago and was never completed. then if they want they should go back and remake blood omen 1 and soul reaver 1 adding in some modern touch ups, potentially adding some additional lore and content. it could be more beneficial though to do the remakes first and then finally release the final chapter. typically prequels aren't as interesting if the final ending is already known.
No we don't need any kind of soulslike. See this is the problem there are too many morons wanting stupid soulslikes. What we all need is a team who are absolutely dedicated to bringing all the lore of this series to life in the most authentic way possible. Soulslikes aren't great because they play like a souls game, they are great because of the vast amounts of lore and story they bring. Let's be honest, without all the lore and story content, none of the souls games would be good.
Rented Soul Reaver from blockbuster one weekend in college. Just wanted to try something new and different. Didn’t think I would like it, but was instantly pulled in by the story telling and voice acting like you’ve never heard in any video game at the time. Worked with a kid at Walmart at the time who owned its prequel, Blood Omen and he just gave it to me. One of my favorite stories of all time. Would love to see it revived, but not sure new writers could achieve its original depth.
Blood Omen 2 was actually not an alternate timeline, it was the timeline of the young Kain before Soul Reaver 1. In Blood Omen Kain became a vampire and declined to sacrifrice himself. In Soul Reaver 1 a long time has passed and Kain has created his kingdom. Raziel was "killed" and he came back for revenge. Soul Reaver 2 is the continued story of SR1 and Legacy of Kain Defiance is the continued story of SR2. They travelled through time for several times. So the end of Defiance was at the same time of the end of Blood Omen 1. Lord Sarafan came back in Defiance (that monster that took over the control of Janos Audron). In Blood Omen 2 the young Kain fights against that Lord Sarafan and in the end he defeats Lord Sarafan. So that monster was defeated in Blood Omen 2 and then actually the story of Soul Reaver 1 begins (again).
Remaking some of the originals would be the way to go. Keeping in touch with the fanbase and also attracting new audience by launching the games on new systems. If they sell well, they can continue the story and resurrect the franchise.
No one ever talks about Silicon Knights first failed law suit anymore! As a big fan of the original game, I followed SK closely in the late 90s. SK first attempted to sue Crystal Dynamics over Soul Reaver. SK were the creatives behind the Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, but didn’t have the skills needed to render 3D cinematics, so they partnered with Crystal Dynamics. They got publishing rights in exchange for the collaboration to generate the cinematics. Crystal Dynamics loved the success of the game, and decided they wanted to make number 2 (Soul Reaver). SK then tried to sue them over IP theft given the success of the game was largely due to the strength of the story which came from SK, the judge dismissed the case and CD won the IP rights. Which in turn lead to the series. But I do feel sorry for SK, if CD had been forced to continue collaborating with SK, I believe SK’s future would have been very different.
@@GameCircleTv There's still hope, depending on the success of the recent remasters (which at the minute seems very very well received even though it's not out yet) we could see more from the LoK series.
Amy Henning’s writing really made the story though - sadly she’s no longer involved with the company and I doubt any remakes would have the same impact
@cmatin01 Amy Henig's departure from crystal dynamics is the reason why it was never completed. However, she went on to work at Naughty Dog where she worked on Uncharted.

I remember the time when just reading "Legacy of Kain" on the box was enough to give you a stamp of quality after a friend introduced me to the first Legacy of Kain game and showed me some broken builds.
It doesn't need multiplayer. It's a single player game with one of the best story's to ever grace a console. They should do a remaster like the recent Tomb Raider for all 5 games and leave it at that. They lost the driving narrative force when Amy Henning left.
i would love for remasters of the games to play on newer consoles. Soul Rever was my introduction to the franchise and i loved it because it was the only game that gave me a challenge at the time
Simon Templeman's voice is in my head when I read Novels. I really wish they'd carry on with the series. I love how they did Defiance and SR2 is still one of my favourite stories of all time. The End of Defiance also was the penultimate event for the release of the Hylden. What a cliff-hanger and after Raziel gave in, rather sad, but the games always hit hard, which was magnificent . . . And the voice acting . . .
Soul Reaver changed my gaming experiences forever. i would've loved to play the games that weren't released. The series should definitely be revived. The series has huge following. I recently back the Kickstarter for Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver. I can't wait to receive the merch.
I agree that dead sun should be released but as a seperate story to the main timeline, no Raziel because he exist entirely within the reaver after Defiance. What needs to be made is the story of how main line Kain kills or convinces BO2 Kain of his past/future failure in order to repair the corruption created by the big squid , this would set up a way to create a Balanced world full of humans and a stable ruling/guardian caste of vampires like the past he learnt of (also because his sword would let him know various important bits of lore).
He did not fail, though. Sacrificing himself would only let the Sarafan be in control, which were being controlled by the Hylden at the time. In Defiance, we learn that Kain was the "chosen" one all along and in the end, we find that the Hylden found a way back into the world and possesses Janos's body. Raziel commits to his "fate" as the ravenous soul trapped in the sword and sacrifices himself despite Kain wanting to have Raziel at his side once again. Remember, most of this was orchestrated by Mobius, who did not know who he was serving as he did not see the Elder God as what it was. The last thing that Kain says at the end of defiance after fighting the Elder God is "Now at last, the masks had fallen away. The strings of the puppets had become visible. And, the hand of the Prime Mover exposed. The most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me. More powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me. The first bitter taste of that terrible illusion. Hope." There is more to Kain's story and they need to just finish the story. The franchise is call "The Legacy of Kain" after all. Who knows, in the original story Kain may find another way to get Raziel back. I loved the fact that we got to play both characters in defiance and that we got to see some events that happened in Legacy of Kain from back stage, if you will. That Mobius was responsible for Malek's failure to save anyone and defeat Vorador, ultimately having his soul grafted to his armor by the necromancer Mortaneous, the same person who made Kain by gifting him Janos' heart. They can make whatever spin-offs they want after they finish the main story. Janos lives once again now his heart is restored and is now possessed by the Hylden. The Elder God has been wounded, but is not out of the fight. There is so much more story to be told. Dark Sun looks cool, but feels like a cop-out. Dark Sun should be left on the cutting room floor, or just not relate it to Raziel, Nosgoth, or LoK at all. Make it a completely separate game.
Imma need a Metroidvania of this game like Blasphemous. This series was so Freaking awesome. I played and beat all but, Blood Omen 1 and Soul Reaver 1. The storyline was epic!
Soul Reaver 1 and Blood Omen 1 are both Open World games just like Metroid, you unlock new areas as you gain new abilities or weapons. No I will not call it metroidvania I will use the original name before it got switched over to sandbox games. Nosgoth was a Square Enix attempt at a rebrand, chasing the trendy CoD money. Not only was the game buggy AF but it managed to alienate the old fan base who did not want an FPS game crammed into a heavy drama, complex ridden, character driven gothic story AND FPS players who did not want soliloquises triggering every three rooms and breaking their momentum. There was also the fact that Square wanted nothing to do with the original story and lore as we've seen in their leaked footage but insisted swearing and T & A were what the franchise needed. I'm grateful Dead Sun was stillborn and hope if the franchise gets another throw at destiny, it learns its lesson from the this. Dead Sun needs to stay DEAD except as a cautionary tale of what happens when studios chase trends.
Dead son had nothing to do with the legacy of kain series. It was a spin-off. I’m ok with them killing that game. Dark prophecy was suppose to be the conclusion to the series. They should definitely do that one. A remaster of the series would be dope too.

Lastly im glad to read that you did not know about it as some people complain about how I add all games in the timeline of these videos. Thanks again
Dead sun should be based on Janous Audron the winged vampire , the storyline is technically already written and it should be done that way and has enough space for creative liberty while still sticking to the original lore .
I've loved soul reaver since it's release .... I've always wondered did the elder god REALLY revive raziel or was he just there when raziel woke up....
Dead Sun being canceled was the right choice. Suddenly another Raziel like spirit vampire existing heavily impacts the importance of Raziel (that one is very different from Vampire Wraiths who could only animate their own bodies once the harmful effect on it was removed, not shift at will, that guy was the same as let's do another Raziel). Not only that but the dialogue was pretty bad, what I recall from the footage was about the MC being a whiny edge lord (the human half always ranting about his dead family and how he was cursed while the vampire one being a edge lord ranting about how the human had his body or something on those lines) and the vampire hunters talking about Kain and his vampires having erectile disfunction... not exactly what I expected from a series known by the Shakespearian dialogue, betrayals, lore, etc., so, no, knowing if Kain's vampires can't get it up is not they type of lore I want to get, which is ironic given that Defiance touched exactly on that about the Ancient Vampires making it a crucial plot point but they approached it with far more class, so as the Hylden Lord would say, not irony, poetic justice. Also, it's a Legacy of Kain game without Kain nor Raziel... a LoK game without Kain or Raziel is the same as... it's the same as a LoK game without Kain or Raziel, really, do I need to get another example when it's so obvious how wrong this would be? If anything what they could do is use the combat system that they had in Dead Sun to improve Soul Reaver 1 and 2 in the upcoming Remasters. If they do that alongside with adding all the cut content from Soul Reaver Alpha and give us the option to play the original story or the released version would make the remaster of SR1 amazing and the improved combat would benefit SR2 as well especially in that final part where the Sarafan Lieutenants were HP tanks that you had to be constantly hacking at them rather than have good duels.
As my personal take, Dead Sun should remain buried. The premise was a totally different story revolved around the character that would totally ruin the uniqueness of Raziel and his wraith form. The one that should be continued tho is the Dark Prophecy. Defiance ended at the point where the timelines of SR and Blood Omen 2 could be finally merged together and the narration of Kain finally resolving his story could be shown by him defending the Nosgoth from Hylden invasion. Just give us some better controls, maybe like SR and we're golden. I really hope that the remasters of Soul Reavers is a foreshadowing of some big things to come. 😊
I feel mixed to be honest. On one hand I feel like the story needs closure that we never got, and finally be able to see that coin land on its edge like Kain had said he wanted. On the other, seeing new mixes or rehashing of the story in different characters/views/story's would only make the already pre-made lore even more convoluted then it already is. Its hard enough trying to understand all the paradoxes that have the biggest impact on the story as a whole, while still trying to see the direction that they were trying to go with Kain. Along with the fact that they didn't want to continue making games that revolved around Raziel, he was to become the embodiment of the Soul Reaver as the title of the story that followed him. But now they have a comic out about Raziel's past, and some new characters. Along with the Relaunch on that hand held system (with a bunch of Crystal Dynamics games), and the Remastered version coming out in a few months. Its great to see that this timeless classic series is getting some much needed love... but should it really be continued.. or just finished? Again I would lean to an END then an continuation of it, as its been long dead... just unfinished.

The LoK series is one of the greatest series to ever be released, the people who gave it bad reviews are just people who don't understand a great story line when they see one. The series is in dire need of a revival, there's is far too much potential to go to waste.
I really would love to see Dead Sun come back and have Raziel make an appearance. I have also wanted the series to continue on from Defiance for years now, and to see Kain fight the Hylden to a final defeat would be amazing, provided it be done right.
For a complex story line, given how defiance ended, it seems like dead sun was giving an extremely complex story with good graphics. That's the thing, i feel like the story was going to be to ambitious and be the final nail in the coffin given what i've heard from this video. I hope we get a legacy of kain but they need to pin the story down because that's what the original fans are going to want.
I wish they could make a remake for Blood omen using the Witcher engine, It fits so well, on the other hand a one last entry that could tie the remaining plots for kain from defiance could also be well received and the voice actors of kain and raziel are still Alive

In a perfect world they would remake the Kain series as one giant game from Blood Omen to Defiance and also the final game that is the ending of Kain's story. THEn we can go into other games within the universe.

Hopefully now soul reavers getting rereleased on certain platforms retro platforms they may add it to gog. and i can complete my collection on there. Soul reaver 2 is just as cool though.
Another thing I wondered about the SR games(and Kain). Vorador created the Reaver sword to seal the demons away with the pillars. At the time the original vampire's were still Angels, So how is Vorador not. He appears to be a bitten vampire oddly before the blood curse was even a thing. Also why would Angels make a demonic sword that drank the blood of its victims. Granted this could have been where the Demons (Hyldin) came up with the curse idea. So was the Reaver once beautiful and Angelic and it twisted when the Angels became Vampires. Or was it always a demonic looking blade because of something Vorador saw on his "Offscreen" time travels. Could explain how he seems to be a bitten vampire and not a fallen angel. The lore is to deep to ever know all answers.
i stil want my sequal to defiance and a good ending to the story, why did they deside to focus so much on other charcs? al we wanted to play is kain and raziel and pasy defiance play with kain and maybe have his sword talk to him now that raziel is in it. why go a entirely diffirent road that no1 asked for? i wanted a follow up where kain goes on a journey across time to find a way to beat the ancient one and restore the world. after kain restores the world we can have spin offs a raziel game as a vampire and maybe a vorador and janus game.
If i remember from my childhood not too many people in my friend group liked this game but it will live on as a cult classic like other miss understood storys
I disagree on Dead Sun being canceled, I think it was the right move. The whole game didn't had the same shakespearean dialogue and stakes. Instead of "There is a new Soul Reaver now", we had dialogue such as "Now I'm a Soul Reaver", which is pretty bland for a game of this franchise. And as much as the idea of a game set in the far future of Nosgoth, with a human and a vampire were compelling, there was nothing in story to show it was near the level of the previous games. The gameplay looked ok, but it needed some refining.

4:48 it wasn't jealousy. He recognised the fulfillment of the prophecy.
@@Dionysus-207 Thats a great point. Although I did like what was shown in Dead Sun.

Extremely
they just need to finish kain's story. the last game ended on an epic cliffhanger long ago and was never completed. then if they want they should go back and remake blood omen 1 and soul reaver 1 adding in some modern touch ups, potentially adding some additional lore and content. it could be more beneficial though to do the remakes first and then finally release the final chapter. typically prequels aren't as interesting if the final ending is already known.
Remakes of both of those games would be a great choice for a sequel spark

@@randyburger2424 That feeling of renting a great game in Blockbuster was unmatched.
your music choice to discuss this series is absolutely insane.
I would love to see the franchise revived it’s been to long now nearly 20 years without an actual game in the series it’s well deserved
Soul Reaver 1 and 2 are getting revived
Thats good info right there. Ultimately it's just sad what happened tbh

@@vinzenzdeanson4946 That's not a bad idea
Kain finds a portal to our reality. But Not the present, jolly old england.

Let it die... I love these games prob in my top 10 series of all time. But to believe the people who make games now could continue this game and do it justice is laughable. Maybe Cory Barlog or Suker punch i would trust but no other developer really
6 😢 I only played soul reaver 1 and legacy of Kain Defiance . Didn’t finish anyone 😂but really enjoyed and loved it both
You should try the others. Also fun
Definitely agree I played all of them well except for Nosgoth
@@GameCircleTv hi mate I don't know if it can be downloaded in PS4 but I will definitely try to redownload Defiance.. Because it was my favourite...
I played a few I really like blood omen 2 not sure why so much hate, but was a ton of fun for me on PS2. I think it would’ve sold better if it was made for all platforms vs being exclusive. I’m very hyped for the remasters we are getting.
In a perfect world they would remake the Kain series as one giant game from Blood Omen to Defiance and also the final game that is the ending of Kain's story. THEn we can go into other games within the universe.
A proper direct sequel Defiance featuring Kain
Definitely Needs a revival
@@jamespittman59 which was your favorite?
@@GameCircleTv I personally liked defiance
Blood omen use to freak me out as a kid
😂 but did you end up liking it later on?
Bought them all on gog and play them on my ROG ally. loved soul reaver on dreamcast but have soul reaver 2 to play now as well blood omen 2. need to get blood omen 1. . Only cost a couple quid each like £2 each.
Playing these games on the go with the ROG Ally must be fantastic. Nicely done
@@GameCircleTv Yeah I actually went and played it after this. But haven't got soul reaver 1. Just soul reaver 2 because for some reason they don't have soul reaver 1 on GOG which is a shame. The other one I have I thought was soul reaver 1 was legacy of Kane defiance. Still all cool too have though. Hopefully now soul reavers getting rereleased on certain platforms retro platforms they may add it to gog. and i can complete my collection on there. Soul reaver 2 is just as cool though.
@@Steelninja77 the remasters are being worked on
But as Soul Reaver 2 told us. Kain refused the sacrifice! Kain refused the sacrifice! Kain refused the sacrifice! Kain refused the sacrifice! ....
Yeah legacy of kain deserves a final chapter.. at this point it probably needs a complete reboot.

Damn Dead Sun look so kool it's a shame it got cancelled
Blood Omen 2 was an awesome game as well Kain is a bad ass on there
i stil want my sequal to defiance and a good ending to the story, why did they deside to focus so much on other charcs? al we wanted to play is kain and raziel and pasy defiance play with kain and maybe have his sword talk to him now that raziel is in it.
why go a entirely diffirent road that no1 asked for? i wanted a follow up where kain goes on a journey across time to find a way to beat the ancient one and restore the world.
after kain restores the world we can have spin offs a raziel game as a vampire and maybe a vorador and janus game.
They should keep this going I have all of them and still love 6
@@anthonyrigley4402 they definitely need to keep it going
They remade Final Fantasy 7,why can't they just remake Blood Omen????

Namco, when will the new Klonoa game be released?
Have you tried emailing them as well?
If i remember from my childhood not too many people in my friend group liked this game but it will live on as a cult classic like other miss understood storys
I truly, truly miss E3…😢
Didn't the series end on a cliffhanger with raziel becoming one with kains sword?
It's a cycle
Blood omen 2 was also on the game cube
I disagree on Dead Sun being canceled, I think it was the right move. The whole game didn't had the same shakespearean dialogue and stakes. Instead of "There is a new Soul Reaver now", we had dialogue such as "Now I'm a Soul Reaver", which is pretty bland for a game of this franchise. And as much as the idea of a game set in the far future of Nosgoth, with a human and a vampire were compelling, there was nothing in story to show it was near the level of the previous games. The gameplay looked ok, but it needed some refining.
@@marcocoelhohomeI agree on the refining part, not the cancellation part.
In Playstation 1 was one of the best games
