Hi Pete. I really like your channel & your style & demeanor in all of your videos. I do not have this Tamron lens but appreciate the information that you provided. I shoot Fuji & use 50-140mm, 100-400mm, & 200mm f/2 lenses with a 1.4 teleconverter or occasionally a 2.0 teleconverter. I believe the 50-140mm is the easiest to use in the field, as the 100-400mm & the 200mm f/2 are definitely best utilised with a monopod. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the photographic community.😊👍🙏

Thank you Jeffrey! I appreciate your kind words. I really want to try out the 200 f/2. I’d love to use that for sports.

It is a fine lens for it's price. And you do not need a tripod or monopod, just use a shoulder strap and mount it on the lens. No problem with an X-H1 attached.

I love mine - and I’ve been using it successfully handheld, despite the weight. (Actually I think it’s my knees and legs that suffer as I kneel and sit and lay down to get the background bokeh right.) I bought this and the X-T5 at full price when they were first released so that the lens length, quality and camera autofocus would be ideal for bird photography, and I have not been disappointed! 😎👍

Yep. It works VERY well on the XT5. I preferred using it on the 5 over the XH2 for some reason haha

The image stabilization is pretty poor, except for that its a great lens. Probably the best option for x-mount wildlife at the moment.

It worked okay for me on option 3. It’s really a well made lens for sure. Overall I was very happy with it.

I just purchased this lens for my Fuji xt5, brand new from Amazon. It was absolutely horrible. It would not focus at infinity and I would get maybe 8 out of 10 blurry shots in burst shooting at a stationary bird with fast shutter speeds. I contacted Tamron support and it turns out this lens has a recall for not focusing at infinity. I will also note that it has taken over 5 days for Tamron customer support to respond to me and another 2 days to reply to my follow up questions. I ended up returning the lens to Amazon and buying a used 100-400 with the 1.4 teleconverter which was less than the Tamron new. I am. Much happier with the 100-400 and 1.4 TC. So be warned buying this Tamron you may get a recalled lens as tamron obviously didn't care enough about their customers to have retailers pull them from their shelves.

Is this issue on Fuji mount only ? I have Sony e-mount version for about a year and only have issues if I forget to turn off VC at shutters speed above 1/1600 or so.The video states weight at 3.77 lbs. it specs say 4.1 lbs.

The Sony version might be heavier than the Fuji one unless I read out the wrong spec. Either way it’s heavy! Lol

This lens is not as fast as the 100-400mm lens, but its sharper.
Its been good for landscape photography, and you will need something to fill in under 150. The 50 140 would be nice, but I feel they need to refresh that lens. I have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4, Fuji 18 55mm, and the 16 80mm. BTW Pete nice video review.

I'm thinking of getting this lens for airshows and bird photography (and more). It will be mounted on my A7 III. I have found some similar lenses, and I hope you can guide me which one to get - and why! =)
    1. Tamron 150-500
    2. Tamron 50-400
    3. Sigma 100-400
I'm of course looking for both good image quality but also good stabilisation .The lens could not be too heavy as well, but maybe these budget telezooms (?) are not that bulky and heavy?
    Cheers!

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  8 місяців тому

The downside to the Tamron 150-500 is its size and weight. I found it to be cumbersome for long shoots, and the image stabilization was only okay. My choice would be the Sigma 100-400. It's very compact for the range, great IS, excellent quality, etc. I reviewed that one as well here: ua-cam.com/video/ubEA9hyvfY8/v-deo.html

@@PeteCocoPhoto Tamron is working with Nikon to release some of their mirrorless lenses. Some (17-28 & 28-75) are actually being sold as Nikon lenses. Others such as the 35-150 are still being sold as Tamron. This lens is rumoured to be one of the "Upcoming Announcements". I have my fingers crossed since I have heard great things about the Sony version of this lens.

@@PeteCocoPhoto just to close the loop so to speak, the Nikon Z Mount version has been announced and should be released in the next few weeks.
I know that Sony limits the burst rate on third part lenses to 15FPS (still very impressive IMHO). I would be curious to find out if Nikon does the same.

I have this lens and have no complaints with image quality. However it does have a major flaw and if I had done my research properly I would not have bought it. It does not accept converters. For Bird Photography I think this is a deal breaker. I'm trading mine in, so if anyone has any sugesstions, I'd be grateful.

Man, TC's really aren't great for zooms anyways. Not only does image quality take a hit, but you're making very slow lenses even slower. 500mm on aps-c is plenty for bird photography, and sadly there are no fuji prime supertelephotos, except for the 200mm.

    • @andyclark5493

I use the FujiFilm 150-600mm on a body with the 40MP sensor. That combo gives great reach, amazing image quality, and allows a decent amount of cropping.
