That was quite a move, 200 miles to the construction site with a Beam that length. The driver of the MAN tractor unit always does very well in these tricky situations.
The building behind the camera really limits the length of beam that can be produced. This 47 m beam only just made it out of factory, anything beyond 48 metres would be a no go. Having said that some bright spark will take on a 50 m job of some kind and then it will get hung up getting out. Naturally the said bright spark never gets the blame.

Re 'LHD' prime mover in uk, In the late 70s, early 80s Heanor Haulage had several Volvo F89s which came with 330hp as against F88, 270 or 290 hp but only available as a left hooker. Speaking of Heanor, does anyone know if anyone has one of Heanors HHTs with the Detroit Diesel 8V 92 two stroke. They had a Volvo cab on a Scammell Contractor chassis. Now THATs a prime mover! 'Home Made' because no truck builder in UK would make what Mr Searson wanted so he built his own, 4or 5 in total then he started getting requests to 'build one for me' from heavy hauliers. Standing beside one of these running at full chat has been known to cause embarrassing spontaneous reactions in grown men!!
Sal 513 R HHT 002 Went to GCS Johnson I saw this truck in the late 70's got talking to the driver I can remember asking how gears was told it had 52 different ratios 13 speed Fuller gearbox 4 speed auxiliary Spicer box Engine Detroit diesel Two stroke Sounded Awesome and you could hear them for miles

Bright sparks are the ones who can not do the job but think if they tell someone else to do it it wil get done.
