Someone called Racoons "Trash Pandas" and now I can't stop using those words and laughing. I still like them and love their little hands when they grab food.
It's a very common nickname where I live, so much that the big city's baseball team is called the Trash Pandas. The city's nickname is also Rocket City, because it's a huge hub for tech and space, NASA, etc.. the Trash Pandas logo is a raccoon riding on a rocket. So I wonder if someone was making a connection to Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy? 🦝 🚀 I also love to watch them eat - and really like to see any rodents eat, with their little hands! It's too cute. If you haven't already, watch the video of the raccoon who washes a piece of cotton candy in water. Raccoons wash their food before eating sometimes.. you can imagine what happens. 🙈 It's one of the sweetest trash panda vids out there.
@@keithevans78 Oh yeah, well that hasn’t stopped people from domesticating them, and once they have become domesticated, they seem to be loving little pets, and very appreciative of the people that have taken them in as pets.
I went to a wedding at the Boat House restaurant in Central Park. The restaurant has a back deck. Apparently there is a colony of racoons who live under the deck. When there's a party back there, they come out and beg. I've also seen racoons outside of the park. I saw one climbing on a fire escape on a building just off of 3rd Avenue in the '90s.
I grew up in the Bronx in the 80s/90s. We'd have a group of them come to our kitchen window begging for food at least 2-3 a week. Us kids would crack the window a bit and sneak them some food. So cute
Poor baby wants a little snack but best to just walk in opposite direction and leave it so he happens upon it (so you're NOT feeding him). They need to keep their natural, protective instincts about them.
yeah, gaining their trust with acts of kindness is simply too hard. Letting animals remain terrified of us due to earlier humans' influence is the easier option
Clearly this little guy has been getting hand fed by humans for a while. But you always have to remember he's a wild animal the vast majority of raccoons aren't this friendly he is the exception to the rule.
@@LunaDelTuna animals react to things before they know what they do, that's a fact, If a racoon never encountered a human in their life they would react with fear, or at best caution because that is what helps them survive in most situations in the wild, animals aren't born without fear of the unknown, they act in this way regardless of weather a human proves to be a threat, YOU have to prove to a wild animal you aren't a threat to it for it to behave this way, but you don't have to prove to be an actual threat for it to be defensive.
Those who are not friendly to people do not fit. If the animal feels danger, then it will not approach a person. People also need to behave tactfully. No need to stretch out your hands to wild animals. 😉😊
They learn quickly where food is available. The place and receptical become imprinted. That is where it has learned to find a willing giver. They dont as easily trust approachers away from a food site. New faces and shapes are also questionable. They take a lot of attention to encourage them to adapt to a new thing but they're willing. If it lives long enough it might come to understand their body language. Not every person will be happy to have a raccoon approach them.

Doubtful. Wild raccoons are extremely common in the U.S. They are used to humans and interact with them a lot. I have about ten that come to my window every night. I literally have them climbing up to my windowsill every night to retrieve peanuts that I put out for them and birds. They're just used to humans. Very very common.

He is cute and all but a reminder to everyone try and not feed the wild life. You really shouldn't feed wildlife especially in places like NYC central park. Because when you do more will come expecting food similar to what happens when ants invade. More and more will come, which is not what people would want in big parks like NYC central park. Just a friendly reminder. Remember to stay hydrated too!! xx

Yes especially in Central Park. One time I was sitting with a friend turned my back around there was a raccoon behind my back I got so scared 😱. I didn’t know that raccoons were in nyc either. People needs to leave raccoons alone don’t touch them our feed them.

I feel like most people who think he was a pet don't have much experience with raccoons. Even when they're wild they become assimilated to humans very quickly.
This is a cute video and special circumstances because obviously people feed this guy (and he prolly forgot how to survive on his own without handouts which is sad). 1. Be very cautious of raccoons in the daytime, especially if they're genuinely unperturbed by their presence. That's usually a surefire sign of rabes. 2. If you're wearing open-toed shoes, do NOT go messing with wild animals. Your toes are basically Vienna sausages, just a bit crunchy in the middle. 3. Feeding wild animals might seem altruistic but you are prolly just messing up nature.
