Beautiful voice, beautiful and emotional performance of this seemingly easy, but in fact extremely difficult aria. I do not remember to have heard it performed by a soprano who is not Czech or Slovak, who would pay such attention to the diction and sound of the Czech language. You can understand almost every single word....... fabulous. I wish I would be able to say something in Finish as good as Ms Mattila was performs this aria in Czech.
This beautiful Finnish voice, a sublime ample voice, inimitable. She reached the heights that can be heard in this interpretation all in nuances and extremely difficult. So we listen to it over and over again, always insatiable, in search of all the subtleties and melodic peculiarities of this aria by Antonín Dvořák. Thank you very much Edmund StAustell for allowing us to hear it
Yes, good of you to notice that! She is most talented, and very much at home with the languages of her part of the world, most of which are mysterious and hopelessly difficult for the rest of us from more southern climes. The only one with which I am at all familiar is Russian, a culture I greatly admire.
I second this! I'm Finnish like Karita, but have great difficulties in pronouncing some Czech words (I'm learning as my boyfriend is Czech) and especially the elusive ř, which she sings effortlessly here (I sound like trying to spit out r's - sigh!). She has a talent for sure. Go Karita!
The Czech pronunciation of Ms Mattila is really excellent. I've never heard similar from a singer not being Czech or Slovak. BRAVA.

Five stars for her Czech elocution too.
