I've really had fun on my Wave Bandit 8'0"! You can easily tell where my feet land on the deck after a year's use (LOL). It took a couple of times to get one with the least (acceptable) amount of shipping damage though. I still use it on the inside with groups who are a little afraid of possibly getting hit with "hard" boards.
Loved this video Ben! I can totally relate as a novice shaper myself I tried this experiment with an old 6’0 foamie I had during the pandemic and reshaped it into a 5’2 bonzer. I totally think you’re right as a lot of the volume seems to be in the pool noodle type foam on the deck. I’m in agreement with you on just getting higher volume boards especially for winter conditions where your 6mm suit will add an extra 10 lb sometimes in weight which changes the way more performance boards ride. As someone also that’s a very average surfer at best on the east coast it’s more fun to be able to not have to struggle to catch waves than the adverse which is exhausting. Soft tops are just so much fun and you don’t have to worry as much about banging them up on rocks and sketchy shorebreak. Loved the insight big dawg! Always been a huge fan since the OG days and keep living the dream! Kevin from RI
Came out way better than the first one. If there is a lot more rocker that would make a big difference in paddling, as well as the little bit less surface area. Either way its a pretty sick project, would love to see a 3.0 with some bottom contours shaped in.
I was stationed in the navy in Guantanamo bay hiCuba in the early 1980s . Got there and the only surfboards they had were soft tops at the px . I bought one and surfed it at windmill beach . It was slow . Now dependent kids had fiberglass boards that I guess they brought from the states . I found one fibo delamo board and I decided to completely redo . Had no clue . I put pigment in the glass to give it a hippie vibe . I used a bit to much glass and it was heavy but I finally had a bit of speed in softer conditions . It did hit me in my mouth and knocked out my tooth . It stayed in Cuba as I have it to a kid to explore surfing in Cuba
Such a rad video! Sorry for my ignorance but I was curious what kind of density of the pour foam was it? I know it comes in 2 pound, 4, 6 and 8. Thanks 🎉
: D it looks so pretty in the end losing volume is never too much of an issue because most foamies have an ABUNDANCE of volume for beginners I did this with a wavestorm fish and a standard like eight foot wavestorm, 2lb foam in the plug holes, replaced the stringers on one of them ez pz : )
So I'm a 46 yr old short boarder that has had two major accidents, that have left me with plates and pins in my hips, broke my back and neck... Anyways I have turned to longboards and high volume fish. I have had just killer sessions on both and have allowed me to continue the surf stoke!! I say all that to say I'm totally tracking on what Ben is saying about volume and getting a board that floats you well. I have never surfed a short foam board before, I am definitely interested to see how it would work for me.
That was great! I think you need to glass a 6’. Then it would be a 5’10” with more volume. I think that’s the ticket? I have the 6’ and it’s really fun for my 51 year old body. I would like to get a surf with you one day in so cal. Let’s surf oside.😀
I'm with you 100% on the volume. I ride a lot of fishes now. I used to ride in the late 80s into the 90s. 6,3 was the size I would always get. Now I'm riding 5,10 and could go smaller if need be. I live in Jupiter so as you get older it's a winner.
Hey Ben who's the Viking guy riding on the kayak I remember he was in one of your videos. Seems like it was a couple years ago. Great video cool surfboard. You're absolutely right about volume.
Awesome sick custom "fiberglass" board man! Man ngl though every time i see you fall or eat it at el slammo now shoots my anxiety through the roof until i see you pop up and your ok. I know what happened was kind of a freak accident the day you shattered your collarbone(not big but dumpy and shallow) and odds of it happening again are probably slim, i just cant help it though lol. Stay safe brother. 🌊🏄♂🤙yewww!
Nice remake of the Wave Bandit... looked fast but defiantly less volume. Ben, Check out "Bing Bonzer" board we surfed in the 80s. really thick, great flotation like a soft top but fiberglass. I used to surf 6'6" super easy to paddle...a variation on the tri-fin..
Dude!!! I found a nuking wave on a sand bar a mile out in Florida on the west coast. I took my boat out fishing and found g a super dreamer novelty. Peals left and right. Your choice. I'll send you a vid. You can stay in our humble abode and it will be sick. Surf forecast was calling 1-2ft and it was easily 3-4 and perfect pealing left and right. Mile out of this little inlet. I'll send you a video. It was 3-4 and super clean. Just found it.
Chopping the tail looked like it gave you too much release at some pretty critical times like right at the apex of some big turns. I would have pulled it in to a rounded pin or at least curved it in and shaped it to be a less wide chop
Get a Proctor (Monsta Surf 6'4" to 6''8"and thick for lots of volume) for bigger guys ! There insane if you can afford one ! Easy to catch waves on and still rip !
Its more about how much the board displaces not just the volume ie flotation for your body weight 5mm wetsuit boots and gloves adds to the body weight against just board shorts ,so you can get away with les buoyancy in a board if you are in board shorts .As a note salt content in the sea varies as well from area to are when i shaped boards and surfed in Cornwall at times i would go see my parents in cardigan bay Wales and surf there i would make a board to take for the slower waves and higher salt content more salt more buoyancy, different boards winter and summer. We had a set of scales to get customers to step on as many didn't know there body weight or would just plane lie about it if they were on the larger side !!! .Its not such a problem with long boards but short boards ,if it dont float you difficult wave catching and bogging on slower less powerful waves is going to happen .
Theres no replacement for displacement! foam is your friend.... the skin of the foam board gives a fair amount of float and the fibre glass is essentially dead weight. Took your old 5.8 quad out in some slabby 3 to 5ft surf and the floatation is key to catching waves.... Peace
Hmmmm… wavesstorm looked like a plug when you did the comparison honestly. The fiberglass board looked way better. Was more engaged, on rail, seemed to have all the pop. The wavestorm is a cheater board and when you get used to it it’s only natural that it’s gonna “feel” better, but Ben you always look better on glass.
Soft boards are fun but there’s nothing like the beauty and function of a hand shaped and glassed surfboard! Wynn for the win!🤙
Great episode... I learned a lot, particularly when Brian was working on the board.

Loved this one! Was good seeing Brian again and I learned a lot which is always a good thing. Have fun in PR next week Ben!
Thars why Roy Mc coy made hiss boards volumes 😊legend
Came out way better than the first one. If there is a lot more rocker that would make a big difference in paddling, as well as the little bit less surface area. Either way its a pretty sick project, would love to see a 3.0 with some bottom contours shaped in.
So cool to have guys surfing with Ben Gravy on Ben Gravy boards when Ben Gravy is surfing on a snazzier fibre glassed Ben Gravy board!
Volume is everything....thats why when we start surfing we use long boards so paddling is easy and it floats
What you're saying at the podcast desk definitely makes sense about the board volume

I wanna see a glassed board turned into a soft top next dude!
Now that’s ingenuity
I didn't know you could get so jacked shaping surf boards and chopping wood. Look at the pipes on Brian. This was a fun vlog, Ben.
Man made of steel and Love.
Love you Ben
Brian is a rockstar! Outstanding job!! And love to knockoff Wawa T-shirt. Classic! 😂😂😂
Such a rad video! Sorry for my ignorance but I was curious what kind of density of the pour foam was it? I know it comes in 2 pound, 4, 6 and 8. Thanks 🎉
This is cool I love the channel I'm about to do the 7-Day surfing challenge in Florida hopefully I complete it
hi
What material is he using at 5:42?
I like the name of the menace. I think wavebandit it definitely needs one more board in the lineup and they should call it the menace
For an easier life , put the log you wanna split on top of another log so the force isnt lost into the dirt 🤙🏄♂️
I’m going to do it to the wavestorm! Friggin genius🤙
: D it looks so pretty in the end
losing volume is never too much of an issue because most foamies have an ABUNDANCE of volume for beginners

ez pz : )
I think what we all want to know is…when does Dennis get his first wave?
Last time you scored big in Maria’s one of my favorite videos. Good luck this time ☀️🤙🙏
Good to see slammo is back in business again!
Some really good points
I watched the one from like 2yrs ago yesterday cause I started picking up board shaping and then you post one the day after
The cold water sticky bumps smells so good , blueberry yumm
I've done this twice with older water logged foamies
excellent opportunity to shape it up and add all the contours you want : )
So I'm a 46 yr old short boarder that has had two major accidents, that have left me with plates and pins in my hips, broke my back and neck... Anyways I have turned to longboards and high volume fish. I have had just killer sessions on both and have allowed me to continue the surf stoke!!

Thanks for showcasing these local craftsman.
Oh snap kayak dude is the best!
Great Job Brian Wynn!
That guy in the kayak trying to steal the show wearing just pair of shorts!
GOTTA SAY BRO...BOARD ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE IT WAS HANDLING.... BUT YOUR BUDDY PALMETTO PETE LOOKS LIKE A SQUIRREL ON GUMBALLS🤣🤣👍👍🤣🌊🌊🌊🌊🤣👍👍❤️
Thing is sick! I’ve don’t a lot of reshapes on my channel but never with a soft top 😂
That was great! I think you need to glass a 6’. Then it would be a 5’10” with more volume. I think that’s the ticket? I have the 6’ and it’s really fun for my 51 year old body. I would like to get a surf with you one day in so cal. Let’s surf oside.😀
great advice on volume!

Rnd vlog, I’d like a second order please, complements to the cook, Winn for the win
😈😈😈 i gotta say , its an epic little wedge break there as it can get monsterous also 😈😈😈
Oh ya and thank you for keeping most of it out of the landfill ❤🌎
What kind of wax was that for the base coat? Like butter
The Legend is back and still sporting no wetsuit!!!
Hey Ben who's the Viking guy riding on the kayak I remember he was in one of your videos. Seems like it was a couple years ago. Great video cool surfboard. You're absolutely right about volume.
Let Brian shape one with the same dimensions as the original softop. With a stringer!
Awesome sick custom "fiberglass" board man! Man ngl though every time i see you fall or eat it at el slammo now shoots my anxiety through the roof until i see you pop up and your ok. What great fun, and another return to the scene of the "crime". Thanks for taking us along!
Hi Ben. You still rode the Board awesome, even though you struggled!!!
Wynn for the Win!
Is the Legend really kayaking in just a bathing suit? What a boss.
My bro.
Your the man for that wax job 😆 🤣
Love the green board. For the dream!
B Wynn is the man, custom shaped 3 boards for me and my buddy. His retro 6'6 fish is the best board I've ever surfed 🏄♂️
I thought I was tripping when i saw the boardshort kayaker!
Yoo! Hi from Puerto Rico 😀are coming to the East Island surfing? La Selva
seriously how did the wax? uh? back home when it's cool out, I normally have to try a little harder but ....eh?
Seems like that board with its heavy rocker and short length will help you get into tight little barreling waves for the dream.
Ben G: Is Bryan Wynn also part of the "Pyramid All Seeing Eye Club" too? Remember Ben, the pyramid is not your friend.
Ok so i am a shaper in florida and i was wondering who makes your foamies for you
Hey Ben- How you going? Just wondering if you know Keith Stokes (lifeguard) from shipsbottom?
Dude!!! I found a nuking wave on a sand bar a mile out in Florida on the west coast. I took my boat out fishing and found g a super dreamer novelty. Peals left and right. Your choice. Yellow magic carpet ❤
GM Gravy community!
Speaking of softies, when is the 7'0" coming out in blue? Hoping to get it by this summer.
Woooooo legend 💪🏼🤙🏼🤘🏼
I can't prone paddles anymore. I'm 160 pounds. Can your 8 footer be knee paddled comfortably???
Old mate on the goat boat clearly doesn’t feel the cold
Wonder if the flex of the softy makes that rippable difference (vs the rigid fibo)🤔
Chopping the tail looked like it gave you too much release at some pretty critical times like right at the apex of some big turns.
I would have pulled it in to a rounded pin or at least curved it in and shaped it to be a less wide chop
"Volume is more important than the shape" ....... Now there's a CLAIM ..... "Volume changes the game" 🍍🤙😎 A+
Thing Cuts Like A Knife!
Just say it, you're a sponger for life! When does DENNIS get his own Pro Model? For the DREAM! #NubNation
Now you gotta make the same board but with the volume of the soft top.
😈😈😈how staunch is this friggen shaper , hes buff ... 😈😈😈 180 kgs starting point pressing
Thats awesome man, I am 200 lbs and 6'2'' and surfing on the Delawarr Coast thoughts on boards?

I git a board from you that I wanna safe but I don't know how to glass it in
Who’s the wetsuitless kayak guy? Mad respect
Saw you video, on physio routine for injuries:; could you expand on your daily routine in a simplified video.?
No way ben opens a new cold water wax BREAKS IT then just raw dogs it onto the board no basecoat. Wild scenes out there
Olass let's go mr Gravy yeww
Good stuff..
“It was a good board and I liked it”
SO IRONIC THAT A GUY OBVIOUSLY TAKES VERY GOOD CARE OF HIS BODY YET SHAPES BOARDS BREATHING FIBERGLASS AND POLYURETHANE ALL DAY!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
😈😈😈 I want one of those stickers 😈😈😈
Slightly bigger Waves and cleaner...and it's a good investment.
Dennis
But why did Wynn Surfboards co-opt the WaWa logo though....
Maybe a quad set up
Woo Hoo!
Thats a Gnarly squash tail!!
FOAM WRECKER
Sick
I would say yea.. it works. You had a couple laget barrels…
Ok so make a similar or same foiled “volume” board but make it fiberglass.
Theres no replacement for displacement! foam is your friend....
the skin of the foam board gives a fair amount of float and the fibre glass is essentially dead weight.
Took your old 5.8 quad out in some slabby 3 to 5ft surf and the floatation is key to catching waves....

Neat 👍
