- Probably the most personal video I’ve done on the channel. A short update on where I’ve been and why I’ve been gone and also why I almost quit UA-cam.

I was not prepared for sad Benji while i was eating my breakfast. Happy that you've taken the time, and also happy to see you back, brother.
Thanks mate. Hope I didn’t worry Hector too much…
Great to have you back man! The best thing about the hobby is that it is always there to come back to after tough times. I hope you find some great inspiration over the coming months and go from strength to strength!! Keep on keepin on ;)
Thanks so much dude. You’ve been a massive help over the last year and a big part of why I’m keeping going with UA-cam 😊 Massive appreciation for everything you’ve done!
@@BenjisHobbies ;)
Awesome to have you back and congratulations on the baby.
Thanks so much Dan!
Dude, you do you. It’s hard being a dad and working and trying to do the UA-cam thing. I have multiple videos filmed that I just never edit because I don’t want to waste the precious little free time I have.
Look after yourself first and foremost. You have a large enough fan base and high enough quality content that you can dip out when ever you choose and we’ll be here when your return!!
Great to see you, really enjoyed the lort video too.
Take it easy 😊
Thanks so much buddy. Yeh, it can all get pretty overwhelming at times trying to juggle everything. Always important to prioritise the most important things in life though 😊
I’m glad you’re feeling better man. Don’t worry about us, we’ll stay subscribed regardless. Glad to hear you’re planning on putting out the content you want to put out :) it’s one of the things I like about UA-cam - my channel is for me, not for anyone else. And if they like it, then great :)
Keep the head high, think about yourself, and look after your health! 💪
Thanks so much my dude! And I’m taking much the same attitude towards mine now 😊
Thanks for making this mate, as cool as UA-cam is its no substitute for real life. great to see you back though and look forward to the future, whatever form it takes
Thank you, dude, and thanks for your support over the last year. It’s meant a lot to me!
@@BenjisHobbies of course mate, you’re one of the good ones!
Good to have you back Ben!! Look after yourself and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy your family time. We’ll keep watching no matter whe the videos are released.
Thanks so much Al! It’s good to be back 😊
Glad you’re back! Honestly one of my favourite creators on UA-cam. Really looking forward to the next video already.
I know exactly what you mean about parenthood, I also naively thought I’d have plenty of time for hobby but reality is I haven’t picked up a brush in 4months.
Thanks so much for your kind words! It can be so bloody hard to pick the brush back up, especially after taking a break for that long! I hope you find some motivation/hobby time when you’re feeling up to it again.
That was a great personal video and I admire you for sharing that, as we can see it was a difficult one to put together with what you have been through!
I just want to say that it's people like you that inspire others in the hobby and the main thing is that you enjoy it :) putting pressure on yourself is too easy to stack up and it can feel mentally draining.
I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better and giving things a bit of a reset. Keep on hobbying dude and hope to play a game with you with some pints in hand at some point :):)
❤ Great to hear you have your priorities figured out.
Thank you!
This is why you have my sympathy , the honesty , take good care of yourself !
Thanks Tine. I’ll do my best 😊
What a touching journey! I often think about the bigger picture, but the end result is always the same, I want to do the things that bring me joy in life, and if that is painting miniatures, then thats what I should do. Wishing you all the best for the future
Absolutely this. I enjoy mini painting. It gives me a lot of pleasure, especially when they make it on to the tabletop! Thank you for your kind words 😊
Welcome Back, we missed you :)
Thanks so much dude 😊
So sorry to hear you've had a horrible year, Benji- yikes! I'm so glad you're doing better and that you've got good support around you. Looking forward to seeing more from but only when you're ready :) Look after yourself man- you've been missed!
So grateful to hear what's going on mate.
I've deeply enjoyed how you've invited us along to your hobby journey these last several years.
Keep your family, friends and health first, and I hope none of us would want this to become a second job to you. And please, do make the videos and projects that you enjoy.
Those of us who've been here for a long time enjoy you, and your approach to the hobby. Stay true to that mate. We'll still be here.
People first. But hobbies and play are good and matter too ❤
Good to see you back on UA-cam and good fortunes and health to you the coming months. Life is hard sometimes, I salute you for your bravery to share that online.
Thanks so much! As i said, wasn’t sure whether to share this or not but I’m so glad I did.
@@BenjisHobbies happy to hear that and you are welcome!
Happy to see you back, and glad you're doing better. Looking forward to see what you have coming!
Hi mate, really glad to have you back! I am in and out the hobby myself but I always like to keep up with your videos. If its any consolation or help at all, I am a type 1 diabetic and I also have children and a busy life with work so I feel the pain! Although at first the changes can be drastic and hard to adjust to, eventually, it just becomes "normal" and you do learn to work around it. I am currently doing boxing myself so it is by no means going to stop you doing anything you set your mind to, as long as you take care of yourself!
As others have mentioned, the main thing is that you are healthy and enjoying the time with the family. Im sure we will all still be here to watch the videos, as and when you feel up to making them. All the best going forward mate! If you want any advice with the diabetes at all im happy to help (although it will mostly be to avoid the mistakes I did!).
Thanks so much for commenting and for the great advice 😊 I’m absolutely loving the gym at the moment and going 2-3 times a week which is a huge help. I’d love to try boxing though - even contemplated entering one of those ‘white collar boxing’ events to test myself!
@@BenjisHobbiesId definitely recommend it! I just started off doing the "boxercise" at the local boxing club (I live close to Liverpool). You do all the fun stuff of boxing, without the getting hit part! If you enjoy that you can always progress from there (with the added bonus being that it really does help with lowering your blood sugars overall).
What you said in the video about the kids and the bedtime routine completely resonates with me at the moment. After a full day of work and then an evening running around after them, taking them to various clubs etc, you often dont have the energy for you own personal hobby. My kids are a little older now, and although they can still be an absolute nightmare, as they become more independent, you do progressively get that little bit of extra free time again.
Hopefully you just take things at a steady pace with UA-cam and do the videos as / when you WANT to do them. As you definitely know, once you become a parent your free / personal time can become so limited, you need to make sure you spend that doing something you genuinely want to do, as opposed to something you feel obligated to do. Im sure myself and the others will still be about to watch the videos whenever you are able to make them! All the best mate!
Welcome Benji. Glad you're back and that this video was therapeutic. Definitely worth it if even one person takes the same action you did to get checked out.
Looking forward to your new stuff - especially if it's authentic to you. I'm sure that will translate to us viewers. 🎉
Thanks so much man! Excited to work on some cool projects and share them 😊
I really enjoy your channel, as sporadic as it may be. Get well soon and enjoy the family. As a dad with young kids in the same hobby, I totally hear you. Hopefully things smooth out for you soon mate.
Thanks so much! It’s been a tough year but I’m definitely getting there now 😊
Been where you are. Your symptoms match ones I had many years ago.
You got lucky on it being type 2.
Glad to hear things are getting better for you.
Take care of what's REALLY important
This is so weird, i decided to do a scale back of UA-cam subs and said to myself if they havent uploaded regularly in the last 5 months i will unsub as my feed was full of.dead channels. But when i got to your channel i didnt do it. Then 2 days later you post this.
As a person with two boys can attest, its hard finding hobby time while also finding time for the family and spending time with my wife. Im lucky if i get 3-4 hours a week to paint and once a fortnight i get a game with my mate. But it wouldn't change a thing. Just release when you release. Looking forward to your future content.
Look after yourself and family first.
Man, I really appreciate you staying subscribed! And thanks so much for your kind words - this is why I want to keep making videos 😊
Benji - great to see you back! I too was diagnosed with diabetes (T1 in my case) in my late teens - a life time ago now! Its tough and the emotion is something that can still creep up on me even now. Look after yourself and I promise life gets a lot better - you are doing all the right things. If you ever want to chat it through always about. All the best and look forward to the future content! Also presume this means you are even more best buds with Luke now! (I think he's T1?)
Thanks so much my dude! Luke was such a massive help when I was first diagnosed. Those first self injections were terrifying and he was just like ‘man, just do it. In two weeks you’ll have forgotten what you were worried about!’ And that really stuck with me 😊
Good to see you .. and congratzz on your baby boy !
You take all the time you need .. we will be here ... Look out for # 1 ... only then you can be there for those that depend on you!
ps .. big thanks to your wife ... give her a big hug !
Thanks so much and she always gets lots of big hugs 😊
Be very proud off yourself it takes a lot to do this i have been going through something simiiar myself literully had tests yesterday its really nice to see you back just take your time and do what feels right dont pressure yourself
Thanks so much dude. All the best with your tests - scary times but hopefully some positive news for you!
Bloody hell, dude. What a year for you! Thanks for letting us know, and glad to see you're going to do stuff again. More glad that you're focused on the proper stuff though, your health and family.
Without you I would have never finished my kill team octarius set. Looking forward to your next video!
Glad to have you back on UA-cam. Fingers crossed your health continues to improve. ❤
Glad you’re doing okay benji. I got hooked on your channel when u made that warhound titan. Great vid. Keep moving forward and take breaks when u need them. Glad u decided not to give this up. Cheers mate and best of luck and wishes
Thanks so much! I’m glad I decided not to pack it in. I’m finding my passion for the hobby again 😊
Glad you feel better! We will stay subscribed don't worry! Health and family time are the most important thing! Your subscriber from Greece🇬🇷 Hope it somehow helps knowing people from the other side of Europe support you
Always remember to calibrate 😁. Always glad to see a video again from you buddy and here's hoping there's gonna be a point where we can hang out, have a catch up and a cuppa. Big loves from the machine that is Elston
Yeah, having had a kid a few months ago I can totally relate. I think I’ve only painted 20 minis this year and ten of those were speed painted warriors of Minas Tirith. Some things are bigger than the hobby and you are using your time the best you can with a kid in the frame.
This is the first video that I've seen of yours it genuinely my attention hats off to you for looking after yourself I wish you the best in the future and I hope your channel grows as you enjoy the hobby
Take care of your health cause if you don't there possibly won't be anymore videos. We will still be here for you.
Thanks dude. I’m doing my best 😊
I to have become type 2 diabetic but I was 41 and it came right after loosing my Dad… I truly feel for you man… I started watching your channel from the garden shed build and then the build out of the garage.. I hope you the best and yep your health is always more important..
Glad to see you back and sorry for the stuff you went through, Like you i had fatigue and other symptons (pushed it off 2-3 months) until the other week and got a blood test and exactly like you my levels were very high and doctors requested an urgent appointment sadly though i have to wait another week for an appointment but its looking incredibly likely i have type 2 also so i fully understand how you feel. Not posting this to take away anything from you but more to say i truly understand. All the best mate, onwards and upwards we go!
Good shift in focus. I find I enjoy videos more when it's clear the creator truly enjoyed making and sharing the content. A lot of full timers lose their appeal once they get sucked into the content grind. Just have fun with it and we'll stick around.
Great that your health sorted out welcome back to the hobby and the joy of it. New to your channel, new to the hobby.
A thumbs up for your video and glad you’re back (and I haven’t even watched the post yet)
I really like your channel. It’s just like a comfort blanket. Chilled and relaxed. Appreciate you taking the time to make this video. Wish you all the best and that last comment made me laugh. Maybe treat You Tube as a form of therapy to help you out and seek balance in your life. Good luck with it all and I’m sure you’ll be fine. 👍🏻
As you say, take care of yourself. I look forward to seeing more content when you get there! Till then, be well.
So scary man! Glad you’re ok.
Hope you're OK mate. Be safe, be happy, be healthy.
Keep looking after yourself and little family of yours bud 👍🏻 You guys are all that’s important. Hope this has helped take a load off!
Your first when it comes to all of this, Lil Benji needs you. Been wondering where you were, sorry that this happened to you. Glad your taking care of yourself though.
Good luck to you. Love the channel, you are one of the few channels I have the bell notification turned on for. I really like you approch to painting and the overall hobby. Take care.
Ah man, this means so much to me! Thanks for your kind words!
Congratulations on the baby!!!! It's a lot of work and takes up a lot of time, but try to find those private hobby moments, helps a lot. Glad to see you're back :)
Benji, you need to know that you owe us nothing. Nothing.
Also, as a dad myself to a 5yo, I can assure you that you will get more time for your hobbies as they get older and you never k ow, you might have a little person who wants to join you later on too.
But it is good to have you back, just pop a video up when you can and not because you must.
All the best.
Good to have you back 😀
Thank you!
Glad you're back pal, was actually searching for you the other day as I realised it had been a while. Look after yourself!
It gets easier as they get older mate, the first few years are bloody hard, anyone that tells you otherwise is kidding themselves. I can remember being SO tired and having absolutely no down time and it grinds you down, you cant see and end to it all, but it gets easier. Give it long enough and you have small people to paint and play games with.
Loved your channel since I found you as you aren't one those full on hobby youtubers, you one of us in the real world. Being a Dad comes first, having some time for yourself comes next, we are way down the list.
Its good to talk.......
Always enjoy your content. Glad your doing better, and can't wait to see more from you. As a fellow father and diabetic, I have come to appreciate the therapeutic feel of this hobby. While my paint time during trash TV with the wife is different that yours, I hope you can find the happiness again. Remeber, your not a bad father or husband if you have fun and enjoyment doing something away from your family for a moment.
Doing that video was great choice - you show respect to all who were and are here. I will be waiting for another video
Thanks so much buddy. It felt quite cathartic to get it all out in the open. Like a fresh start. Feel like I can start again now 😊
Well done mate. Can relate to a lot of what you’ve said.
Your channels great. But it’s just a platform to share yourself with others so it’s your personality and ideas that people like 👍🏻 don’t let it be a chore. Family first. One man can only spin so many plates. Anything you put out will be warmly received. Until your sons in double figures your going to be flat out holding down a job and being a dad. You’ve got loads of time later to push on with your hobby ideas 👍🏻💪🏻
I was starting to wonder if you were alright, because it's been so long time and you seemed like you were going to be doing more on the channel. Glad to see everything is better and you're doing well.
Thanks so much! I had always planned to, but life gets in the way. There’s definitely some more on the way though 😊
@@BenjisHobbies , I definitely understand the life thing. I've had plenty of rough times in mine as well. You always have quality content, so looking forward to more, but definitely take care of your health and family first!
Thanks for taking the time to make a video.
I am happy to hear that you are in better shape than you thought, taking care of you and being with people taking care of you.
Frankly making videos you like when you feel like it feels like the best option.
Good luck with all the changes and take care of yourself.
Benji you honestly are a great person. Sometimes we have to stop. Reflect. Rewind. Little Toy Soldiers aren't that important in the grand scheme of life. Your health, family and loved ones are. I am so glad you got the professional help and you have a good prognosis. I am just happy you have found yourself again. Content, UA-cam or hobbling or not. Being happy, healthy and enjoying life are key. You rest up my friend, if you ever want to chat. 😀
Hey Benji. Just a word from guy who had a difficult time like you.
IRL im Police Officer and single parenting Dad of a boy (older then yours).
I'm in the lucky situation that im physically in a pretty good shape. But as life is, it throws stones at us at all the time.
My son is absolute dream child from his mom and me. After she gave him birth she got serious mental issues and in the end she got diagnosed with Borderline + OCD. After the Babytime she lost her job as nurse cause of the OCD.
I tried my best to keep my little family together, above the water and take care of them. As Borderline is a constant up and down, she had phases where she could not even leave the house. I need to take care of our baby, her, the household and my job. Sometimes I was so burned out, I started to develop srs sleeping issues cause of the permanent stress.
After two and a half years I was at the end of my strength. I simply couldn't help her anymore and was on the verge of breaking myself because of the situation. That's why we separated.
As she could not take proper care of him, im forced to take him with me. He loves his mom and despite her Borderline she loves him too.
She was my absolute dream woman back when we get to know each other and I could not imagine to have a family with another person. This situation was a absolute nightmare for me!
So I still try (to this day) to do all humanly possible to make sure that they booth see each other as often as possible.
But it is still a consistent fight. All the up's and down's. All the lying.
Your absolute right AND wrong about your opinion about what is the hobby worth.
In all the years of struggle, when I find time to sit down to paint, I got a little piece of peace and silence.
Not worrying about mental issues, doctor appointments, who I should fill the fridge and pay the bills with just my salary and so on.
In the end, it's not about the Mini's in our displays! 100% with you.
It's about the time we spent with something we enjoy and sometimes it is a blessing to have a thing that give you the opportunity to have a little "alone time".
Keep going dude!
I’ll do my best 😊
Finding the time to do anything else whilst being a parent is hard but I'm glad you've decided to come back and do UA-cam on your own terms. Keep focusing on yourself and your family mate.
Good to see a new video mate. Im sorry to here whats been going on.I Doubt your docs will have mentioned this but please look into ketogenic diet as this is helping with many health conditions and its helped me considerably with my own health issues . All the best and look forward to more videos.
I'm glad you are doing better know mate. Health is wealth buddy. Keep up your amazing work and look after yourself dude.
Thanks so much Scott. Definitely looking after myself and doing what I can 😊
Honest & brave - welcome back man! The hobby world is a better place with you in it 🐻
Take care, and nice to see you in the park last weekend.
Most important thing is looking after yourself and family and good for you for actually talking about this. hoping to see more but in your own time and speed. hugs from north of the border.
Thanks so much David. It’s felt good to get it off my chest, and feel like I can move on and crack on now, if that makes sense?!
Nice to see you back Benji. :)
"My entire collection would have been for nothing, essentially, just completely pointless". This struck me as a really curious thing to say / way to feel. What's the point of any collection? If the hobby isn't serving you today there's probably little to no reason to continue doing it tomorrow, regardless of one's health. Anyway, best of luck.
What a rollercoaster few months. Be great to see content again but at the pace which works for you; this is a hobby and meant to be enjoyable. Take care.
You’re telling me! The last year has felt like a whirlwind of emotions but definitely starting to feel like I’m coming out the other side of it now. And you’ve hit the nail on the head - the hobby should be fun!
Glad ur back man. Wish I could rediscover my love of the gym as I've still got about 3 stone of covid flab on my tits
Haha! It took me a while but I feel so good after a good session!
Mate I managed to reverse type 2 with diet. Was hard but it was worth it!!!
That’s so awesome man! It’s definitely my aim to eventually be metformin free!
I have two kids under 6, two jobs a wife and mortgage and immune issues cause arthritis, I understand completely and I’m here to view when every you can produce videos and say I feel you, I hope your well and stay positive.
Good to hear you feel a little better now. I’m shure you’ll find a good wat de deal with the diabetes. (The way it hits you looks a lot to the way my father in law got it… it took a while to get there. But you will)
And I’m so glad to hear you keep making content, you’re channel is for me the game with your friends on the kitchen table…. It’s almost looking to a friend and not a UA-camr. So keep doing what makes you happy. … for shure it will make us happy as well then.
So glad to see You back again ❤
Thanks so much for your kind words, Lars 😊
UA-cam is a harsh mistress.
As long as you are doing what you want and what gives you happiness, then go for it. Family first, fun later, non-existent obligations... only if you want to.
You’ve nailed it here!
Hope it all works out for you mate.
Thanks so much!
Take your time, get well and have fun with your son. UA-cam is just a thing in your life. Like a good friend it will wait
What! - life getting in the way of youtube? - Always enjoy your videos - but family/life comes first.
Good luck. I won the same genetic lottery as you with none of the risk factors in my mid-20s as well. You've got this. 👍
Sucks, doesn’t it! I always thought it was something self inflicted, and yet here we are! Just gotta do what we can to stay healthy 😊
Take care of yourself. Take care of your family. Hobby when you can. Most of us will be here the next time you come back.
Benji, we know your mates with luke from lukes APS but cmon man, he quits youtube, so do you. He gets a kid, so do you, he has diabetes... well we see the trend. 😂
All joking aside pleased you're doing better. Concentrate on yourself. UA-cam will still be here when your ready man. ❤
Haha! Just had to go and copy the big man himself! 😜
First glad you well and getting back on to things. Secondly you don’t need to apologise for looking after your self
You have been missed. Take care
good to see you back
❤️❤️❤️
honestly as someone who hasn't been anywhere near as successful as you in the nearly 8 years I have been running my channel I can get you taking a big break from the platform in general and it is rough to have medical conditions appear on you out of the blue like that. honestly it's good that it was caught before it took you out. I do wish you the best in your adjustment and changes going on in your life. I do hope that you can find more time to do things you love in a healthy was as things move forward
Thanks so much for your kind words, and you have a new subscriber 😊
@@BenjisHobbies aaaw thank you benji. honestly i get a bit where you where you are coming from in this video. I had a major health issue at the start of last year that took me out of action and threatened to take me out of action for more than a year (luckily that didn't happen) though i think I had a few things ready to go during the absense
You are my favorite LOTR content creator. You got me into the game, I got a few friends into the game and we played in our first tournament at Adepticon.
Thank you.
Take care of yourself! It's a hobby so you need to enjoy it!
Exactly this! Thanks man 😊
Best wishes mate! I'll be here
Wise words Benji, you did the right thing with giving it a break, dealing with the things that matter and coming back when you were ready. On your own terms. Then having the bravery to share it with the world. Cant wait to work with you again in the future and most of all share what we enjoy!
Thanks so much dude. I felt like sharing it was a way of almost drawing a line under it all and being able to have a ‘fresh’ start. It felt really cathartic!
I'm glad you came back, bud, because that collab was incredible fun! 😂
Dude, the collab ‘forced’ me to get back in to it! If I set it up there’s no way I can back out of it then 😂 Thanks again for being part of it - great fun!
@@BenjisHobbies we'll have to force you to do more 😂
Good luck, youre a young guy and having small kids is a lot of work (if i remember 20 years back😂) and just do the things that needs doing fitst and then think hobby after its all done.
This is exactly my aim 😊 It’s no longer a job, it’s my hobby again.
Hey man, good to have you back and feeling healthier!
I had a similar issue when my son was born, my channel almost died out because working a full time job, coming home to a child and then trying to basically do a second job when everyone has gone to sleep takes its toll mentally and physically. So I can definitely sympathise!
This is totally it! I just can’t stay up until 3am editing anymore. It’s an absolute killer!
@BenjisHobbies Those days are gone unfortunately (or not haha). The hard part is just trying to find that right balance. But It'll probably get easier the older they get. It has for me recently. 🤟
Hey just joined very cool stuff Sir. Just do what you can thats all you need to do. God Bless you and your Family. 😊
Welcome back. You were a creator i watched when i had just gotten into warhammer. Actually my story is similar I almost died 4 years ago spending over a month hospitalized before they could even figure out what was wrong and fix it. During my recovery i picked up reading warhammer and as i got more physical able building and painting. And with that came UA-cam painting tutorials and stuff. Your first content is some from when i had just gotten into this. Dont think this is nothing it is creators like you who helped me mentally a lot through my recovery and made me better at painting models. Incan relate as a father with what an experience like this will do to you i am glad you are doing better and tike your time it takes a wile to put a thing like this behind you and get back to normal. Welcome back I am excited to watch more content.
Honestly mate I was welling up with you, felt my eyes warming 😢 you do you and the people that value your videos will still be around. It was only last week I thought where have you been but I'm a dad and it's hard to get time 😂
God bless you mate
Thanks so much Ryan! Honestly it felt so good to get it all off my chest. I’m not sure where it all came from!
Glad to hear you’re ok. I can definitely understand what you were saying about having kids and to be honest I’ve sort of lost interest in painting miniatures a bit for the same reasons.
Look after yourself mate.
It’s just so hard to get motivated after a hectic day and crazy evening routines 😅
Hey man, its more important to take care of yourself. UA-cam can really eat you alive and ruin you. As a T1 Diabetic its not easy and you gotta keep on thugging it out. My pancreas died when I turned 21. It's not an easy adjustment to make but I know you'll crush it. Often times Diabetes comes as a scare every 10 years.
you get to see your GP? Damn, can't even get through on the phone
Mine have been absolutely brilliant. I cannot fault them at all - they really took a genuine interest and really seemed to care about me.
to hear a real person with their real struggles is refreshing, really glad you're on the mend :)
mind me asking what microphone and camara etc you use?
Thanks so much dude. It was tough to film and wasn’t sure whether I’d even post it but I’m glad I did now 😊
Not at all! I use a Canon M6 MkII camera with a (mostly) Sigma 18-35mm lens and a Rode NTG USB microphone.
Good to see you again. What id like to add, and it’s only my opinion, but try not to look at minis as just toys that mean nothing when you’re gone - look at the happiness they give you.
Good luck with the future, we’ll be here when you feel like making videos x
It’s a good way to look at it 😊 A lot of them do bring me a lot of joy!
