I can’t stop crying watching this show. In 1988, when Nadew eze got destroyed, I was living in Keren. My Mom was an angel. Even though, my oldest brother who joined Shabia at age 17, my mom not only she prayed for shabia but also for the Derg ወታደሮች to make it back to their country, Ethiopia by saying
"እግዝእቢሄር ናብ እዴታቶም ምለሶም"
It means “እግዝእቢሄር ወደ እናቶቻቸው መልሳቸው". I wish these days every mother prayed the same !🙏🏿
This show took me more that 30 years back. Oh god, I wish this planet, earth didn’t have such thing borders & boundaries. Eritrean & Ethiopian people would have not been killing each other. This world is everybody’s temporary place.

@Sara I have heard once in Massawa during the force measures when putting Eritrean youth in a big truck. An Ethiopian young soldier said that their mothers were crying when they were forced to come there! Yes in both cases the act were the same. What is now making things worst is why not people learn that war is destructivet and take away our peaceful lives. Power and money mess up human and non-human beings. God takes time not like us people!

My dad was prisoner of war in the battle of Massawa. He always talk about how lucky he was to be captured by EPLF at the time because majority of his friends died in the battle of Massawa. He has great respect for the people of Eritrea and government. The Derge regime failed to recognize prisoners of war or at times he used to call them traitors, including those who sacrificed their life. The TPLF terrorists when they were on power they were on a mission to make Eritrean government like al-shabaab.

Thank you EBS for sharing this wonderful part of our(Eritrean) history. I think for most of us (Eritrean) this isn't something new to hear but It is refreshing hearing it from someone who was fighting agains the independence of Eritrea. I believe we have a bright future to grow together, if we continue to respect and share positive attitudes towards each other as a whole, all of the countries in the horn of Africa. This is the most beautiful beautiful story . Growing up in Ethiopia I did not even know that much . Even though we are Eritreans my mom was worried about Derge soldiers too. After 93 I bought a lot of books from Asmara which was written in Nakfa and learned a lot but never imagine those kind of stories. I would love to get the book

This is very impressive and it
reveals and unveils one of the many untold stories of Shaebia (EPLF). I
remember I was in Assab in the early 90's (1992-1994) and I met with one member
of the EPLF soldiers who is Ethiopian, from Gondar. Similar to Jottie, he was
captured in one of the battles, imprisoned for some years, and when he and
other tens of thousands of his fellow comrades were asked to choose either to
go overseas crossing the border to Sudan or join the EPLF, he joined EPLF
because he believed that they saved his life. He actually went to Gondar,
visited his family, and came back to his duty. Whether he is still with EPLF or
not I have no idea. There are many such untold stories that need to be revealed
to the public because it only strengthens the relationship between the two
nations. Finally, I think Jottie (the author of "አንቱ በእናት" should have been rewarded
for his role in changing the lives of tens of thousands of former captive
soldiers via developing a curriculum of his own to teach them in the most dire
and harsh environment. My huts off for his diligence and for telling the untold
story for the rest of us.
I think I know the story you talking about. I think he fought against weyane as Eritrean solider. We didn't hear about him maybe didn't make it. Shaebia don't tell stories specifically about single one person who gets sacrificed.
