I filled in on base for Tom Fowler when he broke his finger on tour in 74. I was there long enough to record some with him and have many late nite convos. I loved him as a person. As a musician, just a genius. Straight forward, unassuming, funny, witty, brilliant, upbeat, should I go on? I miss him. I'd vote for him for president in a heartbeat over what we have now. Frank, you left us way too soon. RIP.

@@sluwisch Hi Anon, Not sure I was a monster lol, but I sure loved to play. I retired from the road about 10 years ago and by that time my heart and life had changed and my music went from secular music to Gospel Music and I had by that time learned to play several instruments. I now have a youtube channel BirdYoumans and there I do Gospel music vids as well as doing an Old Time Gospel Music Friday night sing along via livestream on youtube at 9 PM Eastern. If you'd like to check out what I'm doing now here's the link to my channel:

This series is a great interview, Zappa always gave good interviews, some better depending on the interviewer and the questions of course, but the guy was always razor sharp and focused and spoke honestly. I love his interviews almost as much as his music.

Zappa was so intelligent that there were many organizations that courted him to chair various seats, but he stayed clear because he refused to trust anyone..... I saw him in Cincinnati, Oh in the 70's and it was one of the best concerts of my life....Jean-luc-Ponty was with him then, but his whole band was so tight it was unbelievable.Dweezil Zappa is a great guitarist in his own right. Zapppa is sorely missed.

+Jeff Moore I couldn't agree more! They are out there but few and far between these days. Juan Gonzales is a good example in my humble opinion. Frank was a brilliant light on this planet and happened to also be an artist that caught the attention of the media. I have found that equivalents, although each unique from each other, seem to persist even if in a quiet existence. Thankfully!

Her only objective is to be in power to perpetuate the communist / socialist transformation begun by Obola the virus in the WH - she's never been a role model / defender of women (just look at how she angrily stomped on anyone Bill "used" who could topple his presidency or tarnish his image. Look into who the biggest donors to the Clinton Foundation are and you may get an idea of who she'll be taking orders from.

@Richard Davis I disagree but maybe you'd care to explain how? he enacted a nearly 19 billion dollar tax cut in 1978 and USA experienced economic growth until 1979 (when the oil embargo happened). Are you blaming the energy crisis and the gas shortage on Carter? And the military? are you referring to Iran or maybe something else?

Smarter man then most anybody will ever know...he is correct on many of the talking points. US politics is in an epic decline along with the economy worldwide. I would VOTE for a 3rd party now, the other 2 parties are going to destroy the US from within, but can any political party fix anything anymore or is the US now in a long term decline to collapse? Zappa's low key discussion style is perfect, coming across as an honest man with clear perceptions on major issues we are all facing. Great Video series, I almost passed it by...

Joey Ball - Anyone who says that drunken Buzz Aldrin staggered on the moon almost 49 years ago and says that the Charles Manson boogeyman fairy tale is true is either a fool or a liar. Zappa's dad was in the military. Every person in the Charles Manson boogeyman fairy tale had family members that were in the military, including Manson. Paul Tate (Sharon's dad) was a high ranking military intelligence officer, involved in psychological operations during the Vietnam war and oversaw operations at Lookout Mountain. Zappa, with his poo poo jokes and potty mouth lyrics, made all "hippies" look like morons and it couldn't have come at a better time for Nixon, who tried to demonize "hippies" for protesting his multi trillion dollar weapons manufacturing bonanza AKA the Vietnam war. Zappa was a tool for Nixon, creating a stigma for people that were against the war. Zappa was all for the Vietnam war. The best part for him is that he didn't have to go there. His dad and Nixon made sure of that.
Don't forget that Doors singer Jim Morrison's dad was in charge of the Navy Fleet at the Gulf of Tonkin. The Gulf of Tonkin "incident" touched off the Vietnam war. Even the government will tell you now that it was a lie and it never happened.

mrshiney2 Frank would've supported Trump for his rejection of PC censorship, and support of the second amendment, because he was a constitutional fundamentalist. The media was biased at the time of this interview, but there were several different outlets controlled by many more companies than the big 6 we have today. Ross Perot tried his idea, and failed in the 1992 election. I think if Frank was alive today he would be shocked at how closely the government and media are connected, as well as how arrogant the ruling class has gotten with the disregard of the law, or maybe he wouldn't. He says in this interview that he uses the term Democracy loosely, in his description of America. I think he would've understood Trump's need to run as a major party candidate, and the Republican party made more sense than the Democrats, the Republicans were more hated, because of the recession that Clinton was mostly at fault for with his last minute repeal of Glass-Steagall in 2001, and the Republicans didn't have superdelegates.

Being critical of Zappa is a symptom of ignorance. Those who see him through the filter of their limited intellectual resources criticize anyone outside the "Status Quo." Regardless, Frank was a highly intellectual free-thinker who audacious enough to live his life for himself. Every choice he made--music, education, smoking, the names of his children, etc was a by-product of authenticity and individualism. Warts and all, he remains an important historical figure who will outlive his critics.

FZ says he voted for Kennedy. That's a lie. Kennedy was elected in November of 1960, when Zappa was still 19 years old. Voting age at the time was 21.

Excellent point. Thanks for the research. Frank DOES pause briefly before answering the question about his 1960 vote.

Ok for one, someone else got it right, Frank didn't do drugs. Coffee, cigs, and I've heard (and imagined) the occasional beer. Just because someone's different than the status quo doesn't automatically make him or her a druggie.
For two, In my opinion, I think Frank, whether he knew it or not, was more of a libertarian and probably still would be today. Listen to his lyrics again and his interviews.

"They call me up whenever they need the oddball opinion". Why is it that all great truths start out as 'oddball opinions'? I think that people who see the truth are always 20-30 years ahead of the pack.
It's sad that we don't listen to them more.

If Zappa were alive today, he'd be trashing these college protesters
and writing satire songs about them.

Frank is great, here. Zappa smoked (dumb) and died way too young but man, he was the best & incidentally the 1st articulate, anti - establishment spokesperson. We all miss ya buddy - there will never be another Frank Zappa.
