And also the part about lucy parents WAS COMPLETELY SKIPPED. The strawberry farm, their blog, lucy’s father never calling josh by his actual name😂and most importantly lucy asking her mom why she left her dream.

the sick scene is just so amazing in the book they couldn’t have done it justice but it was cute
I completely agree! I wanted the spidermonkey crawling on Josh, Josh clutching her possessively, Lucy deliriously telling Patrick that Josh is better looking.
The sick scene is one of my favourites, it felt really rushed in the movie and Lucy didn't really act as sick as she supposedly is in the book. In the movie she acts like its a little cold or something.
I understand why they had her kiss him because she gets really upset afterwards and it could be misconstrued as her being uncomfortable after he forced himself on her

Yes. There’s more room for context in books and we can get into the character’s head a bit better.
JUST FINISHED THE MOVIE !!!! and i totally agree with every single thing you said, one of the reasons why books are a million times better is because books have so much details. BUT the movie wasnt awful, loved the casting and loved the thought of the movie ❤❤❤
i agree with you that the movie was rushed, i wished it was 2 hours long lol to cover all those extra little details. overall the movie was pretty perfect. many of the details had me screaming. and austin's acting was better than i expected from the trailer (we didn't give him enough credit lmao) and his chemistry with lucy was everything. i had butterflies lol. don't get me started on their height difference...i'm obsessed. definitely a comfort movie.
The height difference and their chemistry was great but the movie was very rushed and a little all over the place order wise. I just wish Josh was more grumpy, and they should’ve switched Bexley and his dad. Also your review was exactly right
Never read the book but ADORED this movie. The chemistry between the two leads was great and josh was 😍😍😍😍I’m now definitely going to read it!

As someone who didn’t love the book, I ADORED the movie! They changed Joshuas (borderline misogynistic & controlling) traits to something slightly softer while still keeping the integrity of his character. Having Lucy kiss Josh in the elevator was the right decision as watching his character get serious all of a sudden, stop the elevator and then kiss her might have come across as somewhat coercive & could be a dubious consent issue as HE would have instigated all the moves, in the workplace, and she was effectively trapped in the elevator with him, so the kiss could have come across wrong. This is my long way of saying, in 2021 it was the right choice! A lot of criticisms I’ve seen are related to the things that weren’t included from the novel and the wall colour which is unfortunately the reality of adapting something from the page to the screen, so I think we all need to be a liiiiitle more realistic with our expectations 😊 overall I loved!! It’s definitely going to be added to my list of comfort movies
Im hoping the film corrects some of the books more negative aspects. Like her thinking he's going to kill her. I like the idea of Joshua being softer and thinking it's banter whilst she thinks he hates her. But im in the uk so can't watch it.

i'm sad he didn't wear cream, off-white, robins egg blue, and the disgusting mustard!! i was waiting for the mustard!!
I gave the movie a 6/10. I enjoyed the movie adaptation of one of my newly found favorites, but it felt like they tried to pull all the important parts of the book together and threw it together. Other parts they changed that I felt was unnecessary. They totally messed up what Josh’s daily color shirts were, AND they changed the juice Lucy drinks when sick from lemonade to strawberry juice😂. Changes like that were annoying. Not to mention the order of how things happened towards the end was out of whack but I know they probably did that for the movie do there would be some kind of conflict between them because duh movies need theatrics.
On a positive note, their on-screen chemistry was AWESOME and I love that this movie is making people want to read the book because it was so fun and I loved it!
I agree as well! I felt that some of the scenes in the book were not accurately shown in the movie; however, Lucy and Austin's chemistry made it 10x better. I definitely went in with low expectations but it honestly was so much better than what I expected. Also, their comedic timing was also spot-on. I also would just like to say how hot Austin is lol him and Lucy are both so fine
THANK YOU because no one I’ve talked to has mentioned the change in his daily shirts. It bothered me so much. Also I thought I was just hallucinating when his walls were green. I was like did I miss something??
@@meganfritz9837 No I feel like they had to change the colors of the walls in the movie to match Lucy Hale's actual eye color! Because in the book her eyes and the walls were definitely a shade of blue.
@@TheLoveLibrarian I definitely agree with the decision to change the color of the walls to match Lucy hale’s eye color but I still liked the idea of blue eyes better.
Also they painted the wall green but kept a blue painting as a motif so that it counts for Lucy's blue eyes

I almost cried after i watched the movie because it was so bad. They left out so many of the good stuff and rushed it and just made it stupid when the book actually had some emotion to it.
i love this book so freaking much, the movie was good. I agree with the statement that it was rushed, especially the last scene, but in overall i liked it. Lucy was perfectly casts, josh...well idk
but while i was watching i was fangirling so hard, and the fact that they kept a lot of little details from the book was a m a z i n g

I absolutely LOVE Joshua Templeman and I'm so happy we now also have a movie of it XD I agree with all your opinions, almost 100%. I think the only change that "bothered" me was that it wasn't clear in the movie that his problem with the wedding is not Mindy but his dad, cause he never cared that much about her anyways so he was happy for his brother. It did feel a bit like "ok don't be mad anymore" "ok" LOL I enjoyed it very much and the book will always be there as well

I ended up watching the movie first and absolutely loved it! Now that I'm reading the book I'm noticing a couple of things - I feel like the movie is a little bit more subtle with a lot of their details & backstory (the more I watch the movie, the more I notice these things), and while I'm happy they cut out some things, I also have to agree that how they wrapped up the ending felt a tad rushed. I would have been happy with an extra 10 minutes or so of movie time. Overall though, I really love the changes they made and I'm finding myself hating the book version of Josh.

Yessss adored this review!!!!! I actually think they did an amazing job with the movie, literally almost everything from the book was in the movie down to the small details and lines. Yes it’s never gonna be perfect but as far as book to movie adaptation it kept that authentic feel and quirkiness, it was actually funny and Lucy and Josh did have soo much chemistry. So I think the fans of the book won’t be too disappointed. Idk why people are hating on this movie when many romance book to movie adaptation did way way worse where it’s nothing like the book at all. This didn’t feel too different to the point the book and movie are complete opposites. Josh didn’t smile as much as people are saying idk if we watched the same movie lol. Austin actually did well with Josh. We all pictured Robbie so the fact that he pulled through was amazing. I even think side characters did a good job and weren’t there just for show. Plus the chemistry and dialogue didn’t feel awkward the actors did good job. Lucy Hale is the most perfect Lucy Hutton period. Even set design, and fashion was on point. The eye thing I didn’t mind as much, I was saying that from the beginning that they can change blue to green and I’m glad they did it felt more natural. (The after series was a total disaster and people still watched it) this was actually funny and cute movie just like the book is and wasn’t as cringy. Small details were all there like come on that’s rare to get usually everything gets cut out. So overall knowing that the book lovers will pick at every detail this was better than I thought it would be. And even people who didn’t read the book can enjoy it for the fun of it. I’ve seen way way way worse romantic comedies glad this was enjoyable. ( my opinion) everyone is entitled to their own. (Rant over 😂)

Exactly my thoughts! I literally just finished watching the movie a couple minutes ago lol and I definitely liked it but it felt really rushed. I like the book a lot better because obviously there's more details in it and I feel like we get a better understanding of there thoughts and feelings, also all their little games (staring game, copycat game etc.) are explained better. In the movie their relationship just ..happens you know what I mean? Like in the book you see more of the development idk
☝🏾 loved your review. So good natured. I agree with the part that some stuff was thrown together at the end. I don’t even like the end of the film- I just watch up the part where he yells “what’s wrong with you”
What I thought was missing:
1- those sweet scenes of them together on the couch. They could’ve done a montage of them spending time together.
2- Helen saying yeah Josh doesn’t like to see her with anyone else
3- him challenging her like wait do you just have one nighters? He knows she doesn’t.
4- that Danny scene/jealous Josh - Josh saying “don’t hide get over here” and then figuring it out/talking it out.
5- they gave that intense love scene no justice at ALLLLLLL with that quickie. It’s so upsetting.
Other things: I melt every time he picks her up- I wish she had had some dialogue about that- or her surprise. I wish I knew more about her past like honey a man who doesn’t love you doesn’t clean up your vomit. IJS that all being said I loved the book and I read it after I watched the movie- also I loved your review.

I agree!! Of course the changes were expected, it was just a matter of which details they would change. Some felt unnecessary and some weren’t a big deal. They included a lot of the main scenes which was really surprising but I appreciated it. Overall, my biggest gripe was originally how I would feel with the actor playing Joshua but Lucy and him actually killed it!! Their chemistry was sooooo good and I was rooting for them. (Overall I’m just glad it wasn’t an “after” ordeal type of thing 😂😂)
I love austin stowell and josh and NO ONE COULD HAVE DINE IT BETTER THAN AUSTIN. PERIOD.

I do like the movie and everything was clear and how they build their charters. And to make Joshua charter, not a creep but hopelessly romantic.
I loved the movie so much I just went and watched it and I squeeled the entire time especially when he took care of her while she was sick and he held her hair back and rubbed her back while she threw up idk why but I love that part....so freaking cute
Totally agree with the part where you say that you wouldn't have liked the movie that much if you hadn't read the book! That's exactly how I felt. Overall it's a great adaptation.
Also, counting days till It Ends with Us and Red, White and Royal Blue movie versions get released.

Ok one thing that bothered me was when he drove her to the bar.. They didn't explain why she was in his car or anything. She just... was.. and I feel like if I had not read the book I would have been like how tf did they get here after one steamy kiss? Ya know?

I wish they hated each-other a little more, and showed him more jealous like the phone call with Danny… I also thought she needed to be more angry at the wedding and wish she had the scene with the mum before she spoke to Josh about him & Mindy… I also wished the ending was different I didn’t love it
I've been going through your videos since yesterday and you just made me want to reread this book.
The voice yes! I was really hoping for a more deeper mysterious voice :/ I was really disappointed with the casting ngl and the movie overall wasn't horrible but it was so rushed and they left out so many details that were so vital for their relationship development. I feel like if someone who know nothing about the book or just hasn't read it won't actually understand the movie and specific plot points

i was actually sceptical of the book and thought i wouldn’t like it when i first heard about it. but after i saw the trailer i was like- omg i need to read the book before the movie. so i think it can stand on its own but also it depends who’s watching.

Just came from watching the movie and I absolutely LOVED IT! I am sooo glad they had to recast Josh because I was not the biggest fan of the casting to begin with (sorry Robbie) but Austin Stowell...mm YES! 😍
I will say, and this may be because I've been on a real smut kick, but I wish the sex scenes weren't so 'fade to black' lol. I actually loved how hot Josh was in the dream part but when it came to the other scenes, Lucy was typically in charge or it cut to after. It's been a while since I read the book though so maybe that's how it's portrayed there too.

I honestly loved the movie! I like the book a lot but for some reason I enjoyed the movie a bit more. But I do wish he kissed her first in the elevator and the whole scene where they watch tv on his couch was in it. Also an unpopular option but I feel like Lucy’s eyes/his wall being green fits better in the movie but mostly for aesthetic 😂

u couldn’t have put it any better !! appreciated the movie, love how they got most of the details but the ending..holy it was bad. I totally agree how the movie was significantly better than the impression the trailer made although i couldn’t let joshua grow on me :( like in the movie he felt like a total average guy as opposed to his cold-intimidating character. No offense to the actor but i felt like he didnt do justice to joshua otherwise it wud have been so much greater
You literally have all my same opinions and comments about the book and movie. The more the video went on the more I was like, wait, are we just basic or equally pleased by the same things
Well, that's the downside of every movie, they have to compress the whole story in like one and a half hours, hence some things will be omitted.

I didn't really feel the chemistry between Josh and Lucy in the movie. Josh seemed a bit older, stiff and more smiley than what I imagined. Also don't like how him leaving the job was handled like it didn't feel like he loved her enough to do this you know?

You nailed it. Everything you said.... I gave the book 8/10 the movie is a 4 for me. I felt like Danny was badly cast as well. He was never threatening to JT.... he was more like the bff. Lucy Hale was well cast ....Austen Stowell just never lived up to the picture of JT I have in my head. The movie was ok.... I doubt I will rewatch it the way I regularly reread the book.
I said the exact same thing about liking the book and liking the movie, but feeling like the book should be read to understand the movie! My mom didn’t read the book, and she still liked it, but I don’t think it hit the same lol

without reading the book, he comes across as creepy and stalkerish, i.e. his BEDROOM being painted her eye colour, him reading the same novel as lucy, josh keeping a register of what she wears to the office every day. bloody HELL! (however, the lift scene was HOT.)

naah i didn’t like the movie at all. so much happened in the book and they tried to put it all in and it was just too rushed. all of the scenes felt too short and not as impactful as in the book. they could’ve at least made the movie longer if they wanted to fit all that in. and also i didn’t like josh’s casting.
