I love springers I currently have a modified 22 hw97 and a modified 177 hw98 and a modified 177 tx200hc love em all 2 years ago I wanted a PCP so bought a 177 hw100s absolute crackin gun smooth cocking action and stunning trigger but after about 2 months of shooting it I got bored with it it was to easy to shoot accurately I prefer a challenge and when back to Springer for me much much more satisfying to shoot I'll stick with springers from now on anyone can shoot a PCP accurately but not all can shoot a Springer

I have a hw100 (bullpup in .177, RATWorks tuned) but it's a tool for pest control. If I want to shoot for the joy of shooting I reach for my 97. Good PCPs are superb for poking holes in things at 40m but really quite boring to shoot.

I have recently bought a 97 KT also. Mine is brand-new and only has about 400 shots, so far. I am new to airgun shooting, at 64. I could have perhaps bought a much lighter PCP as my first air rifle, but I need the exercise LOL. I think it really flatters an average shooter, with its accuracy. As once it was zeroed in, I was actually getting shots into the target at 25 yards and even getting some quite nice groups. Because of its weight, I doubt it would be as accurate shooting from the shoulder, in a standing position, unless you have a particularly good upper body strength. I’m not particularly weak, as I can do pullups, but holding this gun against your shoulder any length of time, is quite a feat. Would I change it? Definitely not; I get a kick from its kick and the cocking and loading process. Certainly an experience you don’t get with a PCP. I admire anyone who can shoot a Springer, as well as a PCP. Hopefully with enough practice, I will be able to Shoot, to competition standard, with this brilliant rifle.

Both have vortek tune kits and both are very accurate and on a calm day there is not much I can not hit with both, I have not had the 97 too long and maybe it is the trigger adjustment or something but I seem to do just a little better with the 98.

I ordered the same gun you’re holding from krale (minus any special tuning) and it came with the muzzle brake/latch assembly horribly misaligned. It was about 3 degrees off the centerline of the gun. I sent it back and received another as a replacement and THAT one was misaligned about 1-2 degrees off center. I decided to keep the second one since it didn’t seem to affect the function of the latch quite as much but it’s still a little rough to latch/unlatch the cocking arm due to the latch misalignment. You’d think it would be an easy fix but the muzzle brake is actually glued onto the barrel and the only way to get it off is with high heat. I could do this but I’m unsure about a good method to re attach it and I don’t trust the single grub screw to hold it in place considering the recoil of the gun.

Seems the machining from weihrauch is maybe not what it used to be or perhaps I got a "friday" rifle, whatever the case the spring broke at about 2500 shots. When I stripped it the piston face was shagged as well, completely cracked which likely caused the broken spring. Replaced both and put another 500 shots through it before stripping it again only to see the piston face cracked again just not as bad. I made a custom face for the seal to see if the transfer port was the problem and sure enough the edges of the transfer port were chewing out the piston face. Under magnification the machine work is pretty rough to be honest. I'm not bagging weihrauch, I love this rifle as it shoots excellent , and I mostlly shoot between 75 and 120 metres with it. I've done a lot of my own mods to it and it is nothing like the original twangy factory version, but you shouldn't have to do this to a nz $1500 rifle. Luckily I enjoy modding things but no doubt some folks will be stuck with a problem that they can't fix themselves. I've only had this rifle for three months but it's had about 5000 shots through it so far which is likely more than most people would do in a year I guess.

@@southwestshooters thanks. Yeah I'm fortunate that my shooting area allows for some long range shooting. I'm only shooting a can at 120 , not trying to shoot tight groups or anything crazy. I have three ranges set up so that I can at 42 , 75 , and out to 160 metres. I haven't tried past 120 yet and it has to be a really calm day.
It's pretty cool though dialing between the the 3 ranges and getting hits then dialing back down. It's a good test for seeing how well a scope tracks to.
It's pretty cool to shoot a can at 120 , see it move, then hear the impact. ☺️

Can't beat a 97 for the money. I have the traditional sporter in .177 and it's pellet on pellet out to 35~40m. The only "tuning" I've done is to lighten the second stage on the trigger, it doesn't twang or boing, cocks like a dream and the trigger is as good as any I've ever used. I cannot see any reason to put in a drop-in kit or change it in any way (other than I might refinish the stock over winter this year because I dislike walnut stain on beech with varnish, I'd rather have a neutral satin oil finish that looks like beech). Beautiful guns.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the video buddy It was a good watch. I do however have a question please. I was always told never to rest the stock of a springer air rifle on anything because the recoil will cause accuracy Issues. But In your video you are not supporting the stock at all In your hand. But Instead you are resting It on a bean bag gun rest. I've just bought a SFS tuned HW99s imp, so will I be able to rest the stock on a soft surface and not experience any accuracy Issues? Just thought I'd ask.
    Thanks 👍

    • @southwestshooters
      @southwestshooters  2 роки тому +6

Hi Mark. Thank you for your kind message. Let's put it this way - if I can do it, so can you! You actually see me revise my technique in the video. Right at the start when I shoot the 'second point of interest' in the splatter target, you will hear me say, "I've found my technique." Here is the truth of the matter, you have to ignore everything, including this reply (!!!!) and do what works best for you. I have tried several ways, and what you see in this video is me essentially discovering what works well for me. I guess it's a start, it might work for you? But there is some truth in the concept that you want the gun to be able to recoil...I am convinced of this. It needs to be able to buckle and shake naturally. The fact I've placed it on a bag is virtually irrelevant, it could be on any soft surface.

Most expensive springer that I can think of is the AA pro sport - £700/£750

Get some kaiser . the absolute most professional pellet made. I shot 5/16 groups with my 97k .20 cal with kaiser match grade 11.42 grains at 40 yrs. Sold it. They have to be rebuilt to much. And it's to expensive. Pain in the ass. I'm keep my cz 457 varmint in 22lr. 😄😄. Good luck. The sprinters are fun.

up to 30 meters seems not that far. pretty close range it seems. to hunt you need 50+ yards for me at least

I think your air rifle spring is not much recoil because 177 version spring not need much more harder to cock. This 177 pellet is light

I commented on one of your videos when you did a comparrison test on a cheaper pcp against a hw 100 or 110 and i am last thing i am not is misinformed im speaking from experiance ive been shooting air rifles for the last fifty years if hw guns are so good why was the rifle you was selling tuned .if they are so good for the price your paying for them in the first place

@@johnowen9564 pipe down. Of course I'm selling guns, but I think your suggestion that the people who are buying them "don't know any better" is potentially a little offensive to all the people that have brought them on the basis of these videos? I don't care, beyond calling you out here, what you think in the slightest. You sound fairly ignorant, to me at least. Still, I'm sure that HW will listen to your feedback, and everyone who has brought guns on the basis of my videos will return them immediately - simply because a chap talked about it on the comment section of a UA-cam video.
