Throughout history there were many revolutions: in technology, in economics, in society, in politics. But one thing always remained constant: humanity itself. We still have the same bodies, the same brains, and the same minds as our ancestors in ancient China or in the Stone Age. Our tools and institutions are very different from those of Confucius’s time, but the deep structures of the human body and mind remain the same.
However, the next big revolution of history will change that. In the twenty-first century, there will again be many revolutions in technology, in economics, in politics. But for the first time in history, humanity itself will also undergo a radical revolution. Not only our society and economy, but our bodies and minds will be transformed by new technologies such as genetic engineering, nanotechnology and brain-computer interfaces.
Homo Deus will shock you. It will entertain you. Above all, it will make you think in ways you had not thought before - Daniel Kahneman, author of Thinking, Fast and Slow
Dr Yuval Noah Harari has a PhD in History from the University of Oxford and now lectures at the Department of History, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specialising in World History. 'Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind', published in 2014, was on the Sunday Times bestseller list for over six months in paperback, was a New York Times top ten bestseller and has been published in nearly 40 languages worldwide.

Everytime our society develops a new technology, the people are told how many human lives will be saved from starvation, saved from cancer or diabetes, or saved from human error at high speeds...but what really happens is the technology is weaponized,
Yes, and the pharmekia injected into 90% of humanity is weaponized.
Good money in war .It s what got us outa the last depression ,and 1 of the most highly decorated soldier s, Smedley Butler wrote a best selling book called ,War is a Racket.
I don't know of any technology that was supposed to save people from cancer. Cigarette filters? Those are an improvement but not a solution. Are you talking about vaccines? Those work. Genetically modified organisms? There have been laudable successes. Seatbelts improve survival outcomes. Diabetes is a disease of capitalism.
I must be missing something.

AI cannot hold my hand or cry with me when my mother is dying. If people agree with this vision for the future of humanity, the world is in serious trouble.
Thank you for saying that!
Harai is IMO a brilliant techno-despot who envisions all of humanity being treated like nothing more than waking flesh with their minds, may even free will, controlled by AI ---
Never forget -- this utterly depraved person like Klaus Schwab and the WEF are pushing the mantra of: *You will own nothing*
And if they get their way, that will include your body, mind and free will.

This is very true about doctors and the medical profession in general, people have this extremely incorrect assumption that only low end manufacturing jobs or manual labor jobs will be replaced with AI/robots, but there are VERY many high end jobs that require 4-10 years of college that will be replaced as well, doctors, surgeons, pharmacists, stock brokers, accountants, bankers, etc, etc. All easily replaced by AI.
No its not, where is the prof of that? Watson only out perform doctors when you put the right symptons. How well will do this made up future were you get a body fluids analises everyday?
The actual doctors use a process: patiente feel the symptons, doctor discover the cause, doctor prescribe the cure. Will we have such advance AI that dont make errors on all this process too? Its a very simplistic view for a complex problem and thats not right when deciding the future.
Hangrid1
You seem to forget that doctors currently make errors all the time, yes AI in 20-30 years will make diagnoses with 10x more accuracy and 10x less errors than even the top doctors. Same with surgeons, even brain surgery will be done by AI, automated brain surgery.
Exactly. Even the best human surgeon in the world can't see at the micro meter scale, nor move their limbs at even the millimeter scale with repeatable accuracy.
Im a mechanical engineer and as far as i know there isnt a AI that grew a conscious to conduct her actions, meaning it always do what is program to do. It can learn with her mistakes like google translator does but cant evolve the language, for example, that said it would be possible to use the AI to do the simple and linear processes but never to use instinct to solve problems, unless it can simulate them. There are too much we dont know about our own body to program a AI to solve them, as for the self driving car is a simple process of going from one place to another in a safe environment so it have less potencial for errors. Being a surgeon or doctor is more about making the right decisions them to have the best performance so i dont see it being made in a near future.
Hangrid1
Doctors already have even worse limitations on their own brains with recalling memory and overall knowledge, as a computer can use a neural net of all knowledge in existence within seconds. Also this video is about 20-30 years from now, that is comparable to going back to 1986, which only one year prior the very first domain name was registered, and in home desktops weren't even commonplace, etc, etc, etc. The advancements by 2036-2046 will be unfathomable.

Economists in the 1960's noticed that productivity was rising exponentially and predicted the leisure society because, at some point, most people could abstain from work because they could afford not to, but that only works if wealth is distributed equitably. Instead, wealth continued to concentrate into a few hands and the benefits leisure have accrued to an opulent class with the vast majority of people becoming all but expendable the eyes of those who now own the world, and they are being treated as such. good work, but it would be better if Dr Yuval Noah Harari appreciate the problem was not the machine and now the AI, but mankind leadership. In Nature most higher animal like elephants, the leader lead to better grazing area and resources like salt and water, but has similar amount as others for self. Their reward is respect. Not wealth. Mankind leadership used to be wise in the same way. but now those with power and leadership take everything they can and leave very little for others. This accumulations of power and resources is the cause of problem rather than AI or machine. The Future of mankind is governed how much wisdom the leaders exercise. Not what aid mankind use to do routine jobs. MG1
how come comments like these don't make it to the top of the list? aah, the algorithm selection moderating the comments must have been programmed to select real world dumbed down entertainment variety comments to the top of the list. very insightful perspective however!
With due respect, sir, I might wonder if you're really seeing the big picture here. Why would mankind be governed by a human, a governor, a president or a leader, when there are algorithms that can make better calls or judgments, and in a faster way?
To me, Dr Yuval Noah Harari's thoughts and studies made me realize that, in a very short period (considering exponential growth of technology), humans will not apply for nothing. Not evening the high ranked jobs. That scares me and, at the same time, makes me curious (it also makes me wonder what type of drugs were Aldous Huxley using in order to precisely predict this future of ours, but that's for another story).
I agree but Dr Yuval is trying to warn us on the possible ramifications of AI development, mankind leadership's method won't change before the effects of AI kick in, so our best approach is to maintain our usefulness not to try to change how the leadership functions.
Yeah, I love Metal Gear Solid V as well.
In his book and other lectures, he does talk about authority and how it shifts from centuries to centuries and the impacts of it. In the latter stages of the last century and the current one, humanist philosophy or humanism has come into good effect where one is told to ‘love themselves’ so we end up choosing and deciding things individually which gives birth to sayings like ‘the customer is always right’ because he knows best. From politics where its said ‘the voter knows best’ to economics where ‘the customer is always right, its all served right back to us. The leaders will do what they have to do to be in power and we keep on choosing leaders for us one after the other. Its become a viscous circle.
emotion is what makes us human! AI has no compassion
He is so right about doctors. I had a medical condition which my personal physician and specialist could not diagnose. I found it myself searching internet. It was only a food which made me sick whenever I ate it.
One thing he completely misses with the "economically useless" rhetoric: without the middle class, there are no buyers for all the products created by the elite-controlled robots. The entire economy relies on labor. Capital is just a temporary means of facilitating exchange.
Universal Basic income is mandatory so that people can spend money and the money flows in the economy. This will give people a little comfort to take risks and do what they wanted to do instead of worrying about the food.
Which can mean only one thing: there will be a radically new economic model, based not on mass consumerism, but on creative utility.
"The entire economy relies on labor."
But human labor is going to worth nothing. You won't be able to rationally "convince" a company to sell you a product because you won't be able to give anything in exchange. It's just not worth it for them.
So either humans will have the inherent right to claim products for free or we just go extinct and robots open restaurants for themselves.
@@danielkatona8778 The latter, I think. Robots will take over our jobs and then take over our consumption habits. The perfect capitalist economy. Humans need not apply.
In my opinion crimes and cheating will increase parallel to this massive unemployment.... So people with money will still be there just below the elite class.. Because of this cheating.. But the problem is humanity will be at its peak of destruction.. Where slowly through evolution humans will forget to be kind or empathetic.. Or to be with any kind of human values.. That's where a lot of other aspects like religion holds on.. Because with that much of people in a large scale believing in a conception.. Or any kind of metaphysical aspects.. We still can manage to hold this under the water...
It's great that more and more people are talking about the coming Labourpocalypse.
The problem, as Harari put it, is not in the loss of a job but in the tremendous shift in political power it will bring, In the creation of a vast useless class and the social revolution or mass culling, it will unavoidably bring.
The communist upheaval together with the french revolutions will seem like a pleasant afternoon in the garden compared with the chaos that is coming.

Agree!
I'm a little skeptical about AI being able to provide us with emotional support in the future.. Wouldn't the knowledge that something is programmed to support you take the comfort out of it?
Perhaps the element of empathy comes into believing something/someone has chosen to help you. Humans are social animals - we find solace in knowing other members of our species are rooting for us. I don't think emotional bonding can be replaced so easily.
Arjan Engelen Good point. But bear in mind thats also because we have grown up in this environment and use this frame of reference in making such a value judgement. Imagine a child born in 20 years from now interacting with an ipad like device from the age of 1.5 to 2 years, having it respond with empathic inputs and talking that way. The childs reference will incorporate that the machine (AI) and their parent/human can deliver the same kind of responses. They will be indistinguishable to such a kid and he'll be comfortable with both. No to mention the AI will ALWAYS be beside him giving him its full undivided attention, unlike a parent or friend or human can! Its something like kids today saying why do i need an alarm clock, watch, dictionary, address/contacts book etc when i have it all on my phone.
Arjan Engelen - there are mri studies showing that a part of the prefrontal cortex has a neuron type and distribution that activates when humans, dolphin, whales or primates determines if an event/cause is from inanimate or animate means. So depends on how a human views their computing devices (E.g as artifical intelligence or complex algorithms). A humans ability to bond with the inanimate and give it animate qualities to empathize with abound (a child's loss of their teddy bear, an adults loss of a beloved possession, swearing at the bed when you kick it). So human capability to adapt is rapid. Heck people attribute small squiggles on a screen with meaning etc

There is a beautiful book by Silvano Agosti: Letters from Merryland (in italiano originale Lettere dalla Kirighisia) a poetic image but not only poetic about how human been , artificial intelligence, politics could harmonize themselves and leave room for a serene life even for us human beings.
When asked: "what to teach children ?"
At the moment the key words that comes to my heart are : presence, art, knowledge, and certainly the ability to invent yourself continually. I can imagine an artificial doctor, a driver, an artificial lawyer, and so on.
But I certainly can not imagine an artificial intelligence that plays a piano and invents melodies you never heard before or a dancer who paints space with his body and his emotions.
Imagination and creativity are powerful tools. Science itself needs visionary beings that go beyond the already known;
So the answer I can give myself now is that a future possibility is to be HUMAN BEING ( as the word itself says , being ... not human making human will ......) in full presence of his creative abilities and why not, maybe even with the biological changes needed to make it last much longer
I would like to hear more about his take on world without money. Late Jacque Fresco spend his life designing society and whole city structure around idea of Resource Based Economy. This work is called Venus Project and I strongly believe it deserves closer look by bright minds like Mr. Harari.
As with most utopian ideas, RBE self-promotion makes itself sound great, emphasizing things it claims (with little proof) it would do better than patching up and extending the current system into an increasingly jobless future.
Supposedly RBE will have experts (somehow) put in charge of all resources, and (somehow) determining the best allocation of resources to meet all human needs, and (somehow) avoiding telling people how to live their lives (somehow) without using something like a monetary UBI to constrain consumption.
MAYBE a super-intelligent, all-seeing AI might be able to anticipate global human wants/needs fairly accurately even as external conditions and societies change. Do we want that sort of monitoring? Would we put it in charge if it didn't first threaten us with extermination? And could even Saint Super-AI avoid telling people how to live their lives, without limits on consumption other than individual wisdom and availability of efficiently allocated goods ?
It's going to be the world with no personal resources of any kind, no food, water, or clean air. You will own nothing and you will be happy. They will own everything and decide when it's time to make others exit.

Dear Mr. Hariri , the school like Reggio Emilia now is teaching what is important , they teach kids how to learn!
What? Where? In what country does this happen?
According to the RI-lecture of Roger Penrose the world needs fantasy in order to come up with solutions to various problems. At this point, as a developer of AI, I cannot imagine the AI being able to fantasise as the humans do, even though I strongly believe in the replacement of human labor through outperformance achieved by AI. Thus will the position of fantasising about future worlds for the AI to yet create always be available for humans to occupy. And without fantasy(without humans so to speak)...the world would at some point never evolve but always stay the same.
In a world of ever increasing complexity, witch the mind has trouble to fully grasp, man feels not as a god, but humbled in awe and frightened for his insignificance.
Hey guys instead of praising him mindlessly lets put forward counter arguments , i think that is much more intellectual

'Billions and billions of useless people.'
Yep, that just about sums up the world-view of the WEF. Just as in the Terminator movies, we must battle against AI and the rise of the Machines or we're all doomed, and the time is NOW, not next year or the year after. Just look at what's happened over the last 3 years.
Time is short my friends. 'They' don't want or need us any longer.
You'd have to eliminate the monetary system, which we should. Then everyone can learn/do what they want.
I disagree with Yuval over not knowing what to teach kids. I think its almost quite obvious what to teach. Maths, Speed Reading, English Literature programming and training kids how to learn independently and think critically. Also it's important to teach children that religion as literature rather than reality of an earlier time. Kids need to be able to critically see the flaws in past religions yet still admire some of the facets from it. There should be an emphasis on philosophical thought and communal and universal cultural identities need to be born. Also SPACE...there is so much in space that we do not know and we will always need to engineer and develop new ways of travelling and exploring the stars. So the sciences will always be useful. Robots will take over many of the mundane jobs but as a species we can come together and find ways to explore the galaxies. We also need to get it to a place where it's economically viable. The biggest danger in a life of smart robots is religion...in particular Abrahamic religions and most especially Islam. When people lack purpose or are in tough situations they can often turn to religion and become more fundamental in their belief. Now if your religion tells you you can obtain Jannah and 72 virgins if you wage jihad against the kuffar as the quran and authentic hadiths explain then the world can quickly become a more volatile and dangerous place. Its important to raise our kids aware of religion but to see through the bs of it. Maybe we will need wealth redistribution and a basic income. However the main thing is we must create purpose for people, we must enhance spirituality without the dogma of religion. Maybe purpose will become more of a social duty to help the community or raise a family well or explore...i don't know but people in power need to think about these things and think about it fast.
But what good is knowing how to divide and subtract if you could never, ever compete with a computer. What use do you and your Math skills have, in that case? Speed Reading is pretty much redundant if you have a Program that reads the words out loud for you. Languages and Literature may develop your cognitive capabilities, but in the near future Apps will be able to translate every written or said word better and faster than any human being. Maybe it is only dedication and creativity that matters. And that is what he means by not knowing what to teach.
I agree with you when it comes to religion, since it can give you dedication and a purpose. But that only means that we have to remember to find us a purpose.
In his book he mentions the "fusion" of technology and humans, which could give us all the wanted and truthful answers we desperately want. But it could also make us a aimless and neutral society.
👍
I suggest you to study Islam yourself instead of depending on mass media,
Quran just allows Muslims to defend themselves. It states that religion can not be forced upon someone. Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood. Here is the ayah 256 from chapter 2.1 So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Don't judge Islam by looking only to a small minority who misinterpret Quran.

Teach those kids history, survival, living without electricity, fighting, hunting, making tools, building huts and growing crops, smelt metals in case everything go to hell and have to be invented again. And the cycle restarts. Forget about jobs and focus on being able to live independent from ancestors' creations.
MahrCheen I agree. basically teach them hunting and gathering techniques humans used many years ago. the average person cant start a fire without a lighter, spend one night alone in the woods without tons of manufactured gear, or catch a fish/hunt meat or know what plants are edible. funny how most ppl today think they are much smarter than a human 30,000 years ago. it's all relative. and finally good advice for everyone, think before you speak/act.
And become primitive again ?
Theres a reason you arent taught how to ferment your own shit and use it as fertiliser. Because you can buy it. I think one of the biggest issues with the human mind biologically (which applies to all earth dwelling life, its simply our evolutionary track) is the innability to see themselves as a collective, part of the hive, instead of an 'all important' egotistical individual. The only time in history from today forward, where individuals will need to know how to be independent in these ways is if humanity fails and we will need to rebuild. But you seem to forget, as a collective race we have (and will develop far better) methods of rebuilding which will still not require people to know how to survive. Think about a future where people do not need sustenance, and cannot break bones, where people can build houses by speaking the word and smelt metals by a wave of the hand. It may seem magic, but its rudemantary technology which we are ALREADY on the verge of developing. To think we will need those skills EVEN when we are stuck out in the woods alone without human civilization to fall back on, in the next thousands of years, is naive.
+Corey Mckay it's not naive. There are forces and agendas at work that will and even ARE seizing these technologies, and when they do they'll turn your utopian ideal on its head. The realpolitik and economic realities of our era all but guarantee it.
If you think this is all going to go off without a hitch, and that we're all going to benefit, then you're the naive one.

The answer is Resource Based Economy. Google it. Watch Zeitgeist Moving Forward. Then create a facebook group called "Build an RBE City + -name of your city-", add a description explaining this plan and share the link for that group in other facebook groups and pages that have similar interests and are from the same city. Also tell about the group to all your friends and people you know who might have and interest. Then, as people start joining the group, start making weekly meetings and discuss first what the goal of the group is, cause the more on the same page everyone is on the group about what the group's goal is, the more efficiently the group tends to work. After defining the group's goal, the next step is to create a strategic plan for achieving that goal.
A city modelled on a resource-based economy is being developed by The Venus Project. If you're interested, check out their website or watch their documentary "The Choice is Ours (2016)" on YT.

In the medical aspect, what Mr. Noah is saying is far way more complicated; when he speaks about watson as a short term possibility he may not be considering all the complexity of the matter, that is not just scientific accuracy or whatever; the machine would have to deal also with insurance subtleties, semantic differences among different "schools", different ways in which persons deal with their emotions(when he speaks about some pattern recognition that can trace your emotions correctly), and of course the human interaction is also important for the patient well being (who wants to speak with a machine about how ones feeling? of course not everyone).
All vehicles connected to a single network Master algorithm, what could be wrong with that?...
One problem = Everybody crash ?
I did expect something better from this talk, given who is speaking and where.
The moment money is out of the equation - we are then facing a future where true skills are being displayed. I will assume that 5 more years - and we will only see barter as the trading currency... i have been right before
barter??? what about cryptocurrencies ??? u think professions will be meaninglessness?
You are telling a good new story to believe in.
I'm glad that I will most likely live to see such robotic time in the human era , but I feel pity for the people who will not experience my Childhood and all of the HUMAN experiences. It seems that everything on the future will be stimulants and robots telling you what you should do.
I like technology but I wouldn't let it control my life, the robots idea is good but at the same time bad, what if the robot goes out of control or it goes on fire who knows I am excited for this new technology is just that I am trying to be conscious and careful

In the coming years, medical examiners will be replaced by AI and there will be high demands of the operators of these AI medical examiners. Those machine won't be readily available to everyone therefore human will still work as the operator.
Human can focus more to discovering medical solutions instead of doing repetitive medical examining jobs.
It is interesting to see brilliant people like Dr. Yuval study and understand where the likelihood of human existence
are heading towards. Now, the answer to his dilemma in technology taking over human labor is
resided in the shear human capability to connect in what we call creative recognition.
It took to my attention to see whether there was made any good study on creative formulas. Since a formula to creativity
will be one of the most important possessions humans will provide in understanding technological advancement. The fear is that technology will surpass human intelligence and to cope with this dilemma we need to study how creativity and ideas works. Because if everyone can use this formula it will provide deeper and further knowledge in all possible way.
It will also help recognize the important to divergent & holistic thinking through all school systems throughout the world.
The most recognized formula I found was the Ruth Noller's Creativity formula which makes the equation:
K (knowledge) - obtained through our life experiences.I (imagination) - ones ability to generate ideas or make connections.E (evaluation) - examining the advantages and disadvantages of a particular idea or
I was astonished to witness how primitive this research have been updated.
which clarifies that no one has really intervened the necessity in solutions. I am very sure that the formula is far more exterior and complex than these 3 simple words of human condition and only a individual who possess a great deal of knowledge, imagination and evaluation can solve this problem. I am interested to work further in this field because I truly believe this will create no other than a small kind of revolution in human history(In all respect of Ruth Noller's great work and field in creativity.) I see formulas like these and what is so puzzling is that many think psychological formulas should be written in a mathematical sense of fashion. I am incapable to understand why it should be made in this manner. Because the brain is organic and can not be solved with logic alone.
That doctor example went WAY too long and dragged on. He was kind of beating a dead horse and going into excess detail for a simple conclusion. Good video otherwise though.
Yes, and the story I want to hear is the end of his narrative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
scariest part starts at 24:55
Maybe Watson will be giving this lecture in the next 10 or maybe 20 years and other Watson will be listening to it on youtube.
Other Watsons will be reading this comment and giving thumbs up.
Awesome!!! The future looks bright!
Unless computers somehow become self aware, emotional and spiritual they will never be able to replace humans in one area at least. Creative arts. A computer will be unable to compose a piece of music, write an epic poem or create a thought provoking film. So I can see a future where mundane jobs are done by computers while humans lounge around all day and create amazing works of art. Also keep in mind that if you can develop a computer that can do a doctor's job better than a doctor then the cost of going to a doctor drops to almost 0. Same for most other industries. If a computer can drive better and safer than a human then public transport becomes a better option than having a car so I don't have to buy a car anymore. So in a world where almost everything is done by computers the cost of living should be extremely low. If not then obviously corporations and governments will be to blame for their greed and corruption and well, we'll just chop off their heads. Never underestimate the potential for violence a hungry nation can have.
I think everyone will become a streamer or youtuber or webcamgirl........ This process kinda've already started....
Yeah just started and we are already tired of youtubers lol
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Proverbs 1:7 CSB
No Empathy or Time....sounds familiar, i think my GP is an AI, that would explain how i can explain my symptoms and then be ignored, that and 7.5 minutes per appointment
I think that's usually a private education 'thing'. There is no profit in a bedside manner
With AI there will be time with empathic coding there will be empathy.
mastertheillusion not from me to AI. its an inanimate object, i can only be punished for criminal damage when i kill it :)
Excellent human Responses...I Love you all and feel what you do....we are one
Stewart Savage Exactly they have already become Dr Watson. Just plug us in. My Dr didn't know that a certain medication had a certain side effect I was experiencing and had to look up the Internet to see what I was talking about?
Why is everyone so excited about being turned into the Borg?
The fact that I now live in an artificial, man-made world, depresses the F out of me. I can't imagine the despair I'll feel when even my thoughts are artificial and man-made.
Bravery will be but an algorithm in this New World.
I like this guy. Thank you to Sam Harris for bringing me here. The future is looking bright! As long as we can avoid a nuclear war that is
Compared to his books ”Sapiens” and ”Homo Deus” this short talk/lecture is some what diluted. If you really want a better basis for understanding the presented ideas and identified possibility for our futures read the books. Yuval Noah Harari is a
excellent story teller and they are actually a fantastic adventure to read.
Concerning what is understood about consciousness (veryfew things) and what is not understood about consciousness (many
thinks), would recommend Sean Carroll's book “The Big Picture”, at least as an introduction to the problem of consciousness.
worst thing that could happen: we teach the machine to act and think "human".
...says someone called 'ReichsfuehrerSS'.
let's say it
Nothing bores me more than a human degrading humanity, as if the human doing the degrading is above being human.
In relation to history, mosses do gives a hint of how knowledge and wisdom evolves and exist on a complex society. knowledge is not in history books but rather a cognition of symbolic displays extremely well timed with a verbal information transmitted directly from the father & mother to the child. This fact is what creates the difference between temporary power and permanent power, and does state the materialization of what power is all about on what the human consciousness is concern.
I think the opposite is true regarding the statement on billions of useless not having political power. For example of the taxi union going on strike. Some of us are not taxi driver but we may sympathize and support them. Now imagine that billions on strike irregardless of their jobs having one common goal which is survival, there will be a revolution if we are not careful in putting a system in place to economically support human either by stipends or making goods freely accessible.
Stone Lands Billions of votes is the political power. That is revolution.
Stone Lands i think you are on a different subject matter.
Ask John Connor or his mom
phu nguyen A revolution is often a way to get a bunch of people killed as one faction battles another for power. Usually, the very poor are too weak and helpless to stage an uprising. Revolutions usually are staged by relatively well-fed, well-educated people. They are usually guided by an ideology that's pretty vague about the future. And in the turmoil that always accompanies a revolution, any questions or doubts or concerns are usually interpreted as opposition. Opposition, real or perceived, is grounds for destruction. In this sense, it's kind of like religion or "love": questions or doubts are seen as signs of unbelief. Revolution, therefore, brings about largely unknowable results. History teaches us that when things settle down, the best the vast majority of the people can hope for is that they won't be worse off after the revolution. This is because revolutionaries are better than their predecessors in one crucial respect: after defeating the previous regime's repressive mechanisms, they usually replace it with a much more effective model.
Revolution is more effective at killing and destroying than the regime it replaces. To the advocates of revolution, I say, "be careful what you wish for, because you may get it."
+Ci Ci I think you're right. Which means pre-emptive action is called for.
Love ur closing statement though.
I'd love to see how an AI driven car could navigate the extremely narrow , winding back roads of Donegal , btw for some people a leisurely drive is a form of relaxation, it's not always about efficiency and technique , it's about the journey not the destination, and it's only in a world where everything is commodified that you would have a person calling other people " the useless class", those people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
This is the Legend. Hated by all doctors across the world...
"The Useless Class": Those that reject smartphones and injections...
The deplorables, average IQ, handicap, the majority. Liberals are building a world for an elite and will get rid of the rest. I think they dream with a world with at least half of the population and plenty free space to enjoy the landscape, abundant natural resources. That is their idea of paradise server by artificial intelligence and human without emotions.
@Obby Zerk You are right, I see that everyday and I'm appalled!
@Obby Zerk a not peaceful way requires action and I don't see people willing to do so. Sadly to say but I believe that submission will be!
@Obby Zerk Very unlikely! Liberals control the world maybe with the exception of Rusia and Brazil in this moment .

Yes. I want to completely eradicate people with a myopic mindset and low intelligence. And then improve from there.
A life has value outside being «economically useful». Most of our days are spent just being human: Playing, eating, creating, talking, loving... So an unemployed human is never «useless». That said, there is an unsolved challenge in how to pay for the necessities in life. In Star Trek this this is solved by removing the need to pay for necessities. But you can work and pay for the extras that make life fun.
Nossa, que maravilha eu ter vindo parar aqui. Grata! Ótima reflexão.!
Organic life units are matter too, just like a rock. You are the God who is creating or giving the livingness to the matter dude.
There is only one name by which man can be saved the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY NAME TO SAVE A HUMAN SOUL!!!!! HE IS THE RESURECTION!!! !
He is very good. One from Brazil.
Is this the very room Humphry Davy would give his lectures in the early years of the 17th century?
It is indeed! It was more the 19th Century for Davy, but this is the same lecture theatre that Faraday, Davy, and hundreds of other brilliant scientists have lectured in over the years.
+The Royal Institution
Oops, typo on my end! Yes, I intended early 19th century. There is plenty of history behind The Royal Institution.
“For though they knew Adonai, they did not glorify him as Adonai or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools” Romans 1:21-22 CSB
A great book. A hug from Brazil.
Excelentes sus libros el Ted talk. Digno de seguir...
This video should be required viewing for teaching misconceptions and mythology about AI. Almost nothing that Harari says is actually correct.
I hope that I will have a real human doctor, who consults with the AI to check his/her diagnosis and treatment options. The human touch can not be replaced, unless it is an emergency and only AI is available, in which case I would have to treat myself.
Why not
This is a great talk. Well done, very informative and useful information. Thank you
What will THEY do with useless people who need to drink, eat ,sleep in a secure, temperate environment...- all of which has a cost ? Will suprahuman intelligence produce monney for the care of a asymptotically growing number of costly useless human beings?
The next logical step is to get rid of them, that is,depopulate the surface of the earth, as soon as possible, by means of the suprahuman intelligence for dissolution of humanity.
We don't necessarily need to have a job, but as humans, we need to realise a purpose.
Good "ADVERTISEMENT" for google, Tesla and IBM :) hahah
children should study philosophy and critical thinking exactly to deconstruct the rethorics of this smartass sold to corporations
I would think that machines would really struggle to compete with us in creative pursuits. Naval Ravikant addresses this issue in his Tweet storms as well as his podcast.
Why don't we just not make robots
Because it’s anti economic
they just couldn't stop. ozzy osbourne looks like he could stop. but they, they could not.
they made them in a secret area, LOL
Because we need machines to show us how stupid people really are.
