- This is the best car collection in the Netherlands, and when it comes to Porsche, Audi and VW, one of the very best in the world! Let's visit the private garage at Porsche Centrum Gelderland for a tour of the rows of special, rare, limited, and exclusive cars. Plus there's quite a story for me personally about one of the cars currently in the showroom!
Each and every private collection is unique, often forming around the interests of the owner and in this case a them very much focusing on the VAG products, from Herbie moviecars and Dutch 911 Targa police cars, to all the Golf GTI variants and just about every Porsche you could want to see.
Then there are the modern Porsches; the likes of the 918 Spyder Weissach package, 911 R, Turbos Exclusive Series as both Coupe and Convertible; the latter which was only ever sold in North America. In addition there are the Audis from the RS2 to the various RS4, RS6 and S8 models, the R8 GT Spyder, A1 Quattro, and an awesome line-up of VW Golfs including the highly sought after Clubsport S. Then there are cars you don't normally see in a collection, like the VW Polo Harlequin, the VW XL1, Beetle RCI, and so much more to show you through.
As this is a private collection, I cannot thank the owner enough for the opportunity to visit, explore, and share it with you. Of course all of the cars are in running order, mostly with exceptionally low mileage and in immaculate condition in the rarest version of the different models.
Then in the showroom, a certain Porsche 991.2 911 GT3 in Viper Green... a car that has a story from my side that you'll hear all about!

I can answer your question why Dutch highway police drove 911 Targas. Back in the day, there was no such thing as traffic jam warning signs. As a driver, you would stumble upon one by accident and then you had to save yourself. In order to address the problem, the police was looking into a solution of driving in reverse over the hard shoulder to warn oncoming motorists. One police officer would drive and the second officer would stand on the seat in order to give warning signals. So they needed a solution with an open top. Secondly, they would reverse for longer distances making cars overheat. The only model which did not have this issue was the air cooled 911. Hence, they have chosen the 911 Targa. Spotting a 911 in police trim is a bit extraordinary, not many are left.
Later on, traffic jams were more common and warning systems were available. Dutch police switched from the 911 to the Volvo 850 Estate. Nowadays it is something fast built by VAG, BMW or Mercedes.

Maybe you could pay a visit to Andre Boer Corvette in Wezep, Netherlands. He has Europe's largest Corvette collection in his own museum.
My grandfather was the first porsche dealer in the Netherlands, the first Volkswagen beetle that he sold is there along with the Porsches of the police.
Turbo S Exclusive series were also available in RHD in South Africa ✌️🇿🇦

There are so many vehicles in there that a sixteen and a half minute, breathless whirlwind, camera scan around, cannot do it justice. We need lingering video shots of the split screen Type 2, the BMW cop bike, the 928s, etc, etc. If I had the spare cash, I'd go and see for myself...

We had a school trip to that place when we were in sixth grade, my teacher is part of the porsche club of the netherland, eand we were allowed to look at thart coleection, although it has grown alot.
As an 80s teenager who grew up 20 minutes away from London's Canary Wharf, where the term "yuppie" was created, I'd have liked to have seen more on the entry level 924 and 944. Red 944's were everywhere, driven by the rich young yuppie stockbrokers. I also have an affection for 928's. Porsche isn't just 911 shape models!

Said to be the oldest car collection in the world, with over 250 masterpieces from well over a 100 different brands spanning the entire history of the automobile, both road and racecars. And their dealership represents DeTomasso, Lamborghini, Maserati, Pininfarina, McLaren, TVR, Morgan, Bentley, and others. Although the collection primarily shines in terms of older cars, which i know are not entirely up your street, i think it's definitely worth a visit for every petrolhead. And the beautiful museum setting might give you some inspiration for your own future Shmuseum!
I'd love to spec the Sepia brown with a cream or tan interior. What a great collection! The original Herbie beetles too!

A Porsche collection of this caliber and no 959! Possibly the most significant Porsche ever made.
You should come to Romania, Bucharest and vizit Ion Țiriac collection. Really rare cars, movie cars, cars owned by well known celebrities. I think it would be interesting.

The/a largest Porsche and some other Volkswagengroup cars collection in the world, including some 'USA market only' ones that surprisingly ended up in this Dutch collection. I'm [I initially made a pun here on the name of the family I proudly, presumably correctly guessed to be the owners. But deleted that pun out of respect for you having chosen not to name or hint at them. Great people as far as I heard btw. Awesome they showed this to us!] who might be the owner..🤔🤔🧐🤔😉😊 Nice! Cool to have taken a look and once again, showing how you rightfully deserved your place ending up in the heart of the automotive world.

The Belgian gendarmerie (now fused with the federal police) also had 911 targas. I assume they went for the targas because of the very strong structure that could take the police lights and accessories better than the roof of the coupé.
