I'm of Greek ancestry, but some of the pronunciations I'm used to are a little different from those you give. (Maybe they're a bit old-fashioned or dialectal. My grandparents were from Αιτωλία and Ακαρνανία.) I drop the "ν" in "την" before a consonant, pronounce "Πέμπτη" as though spelled "Πέμτη" (with a full "τ" sound) and palatalize my λs and νs before an "ee" sound. I also say "ημέρα" instead of "μέρα" and "εχθές" instead of "χτές". (A translation site backs me up on both of these.) I'm curious to know how these usages are regarded. I suppose I might get different answers from different people. (I've already gotten some for some of these.)
I guess people originated from Αιτωλία and Ακαρνανία have some local accent. I'm a native Greek speaker from Athens so the pronunciations are the official one. Also dropping the v before consonants is partly correct. Its wrong to drop it before any consonant. The word Thursday is spelled Πέμπτη not Πέμτη amd pronounced Pembti. Ημέρα and μέρα is the same and εχθές is a little more old fashioned than χθες. Hope I helped!
@@bettergreek I believe that palatalization of λ and v before "ee" vowels ("lyee" and "nyee" rather than "lee" and "nee" used to be more common than it is now. I was in Athens in 1966 and 1971. I heard palatalization mostly from older people. I attended Dora Stratou's dance show on both occasions. In one dance there were two groups of men, one younger than the other. The older group sang a phrase that was then repeated by the younger group. The older group palatalized; the younger group did not. Ms. Stratou (an Athenian born in 1903) palatalized consistently.
