Amazing! Newell Banks was my Dad's uncle. He was the world checker champion who wrote a book called "Scientific Checkers." As a child, Dad thought he was playing a magician, because he never looked at the board. His blindfold checkers simuls were said to be amazing.

5:14 -- Banks' idea wasn't unsound, he just blundered by lifting the wrong rook to buttress his file-blockading bishop. Retreating via Be2 (after Capablanca's Re8) is not only not the only good move, it may possibly not even be the superior move. For example, Rd3 (instead of Rf3 or Be2), Re4, g3, and everything is fine and headed for an easier-to-obtain draw than with open files. -- It should be noted that Banks has no chance of securing more than a draw with optimal play at this point, particularly against an opponent of infamously fearsome endgame skill in positions of equal material. Capablanca's pawns on light squares may indeed be immune to Banks' powerful bishop, but such only remains the case if he refrains from advancing them. IMO, if Banks had offered a draw after Rd3, Re4, g3, Capablanca might have been inclined to accept it (especially as Black), since he would be undertaking more risk in loosening up the board and permitting the opponent's bishop to roam freely versus his slower knight.
