#suggestion Capablanca didn't lose for 8 years. We should definitely see some games from this time period, though all would be too many. I'd like to see some of his brilliant victories and also some of his best escapes or near losses.

This is fun. In The Guardian chess column Leonard Barden says that Carlson's win in Grenke is "..triggering a debate on whether he (Carlson) Fischer or Kasparov is the greatest of all time". Surely he's heard of Capa (never mind Morphy, Tal etc etc..)

after ...Rag8, I think a better move for Chajes would have been Qxb7 and not g3. after trading the two rooks for the Queen, Chajes would be 1 material point up and van easily pick the c3 pawn.

I am watching this saga a year and a half after it was created. I'm enjoying it, but I have to say I'm glad seem to be done with vastly inferior opponents for a while. Everything up through the St. Petersburg 1914 tournament was great. And maybe a few of the games from his simuls and wins in the Rice Memorial would have been good, but 10 was far too many.
Capa had already established himself as possibly the strongest player in the world and certainly among the few best. Wins against the likes of Rosenthal and R. Lopez do not further his story.

  • @jackietsaah

I haven’t seen the entire video through, but could have Capablanca avoided complications after h4 at 5:20 with simply blocking with h5? Sure, you concede a hole for the white knight on g5, but I don’t think it’s all that scary, actually. I wonder what engines say about h5.

I was thinking take the pawn with the Bishop if you're going to loose it anyway. Maybe he could of drawn the game with the Knight. Plugged it into stockfish from before the Queen moved and the second I moved to f5 stockfish said he was down 50 then a few seconds later said mate in 18 so guess it was hopeless. Maybe a mistake was possible but better to just shake hands and congrats, good game Sir
