Nursing School : Clinical Simulations 🩺

- Thanks so much for watching & sharing!!! Thinking back to my clinical simulations, it's always so fun but also SUPER stressful having to "act out" different scenes. My favorite roles to play were always the patient or family member. How were clinical simulations for you?

We did...um we all did wash our hands. Just so you know, they are washed “looks at instructor.”
Or as we say in EMS training, "BSI, is my scene safe?"
So true 🤣
Instructor: you didn’t wash your hands”
Student: “I said hand hygiene” 🤷♂️
The awkwardness... so relatable. Ugh being a nursing student was so brutal lmao !
Yes!
Soooo relatable for vet students too
We did our first simulation last night. It was brutal. No grade. Mind went blank!
Yes I’m a student now and I’m catching **** 😂 I forget everything when my instructor shows up 😂
Nurses, we know
studies with a full time job is hard. We can help you !!

Funny how the patient has the stethoscope HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
first name: blanche
Last name: Rose
What's her middle name? Dorothy
Matthew knight nickname Sophia
Secret identity: Miles
OMG!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Like a sprained ankle she ain’t nothing to play with 😂😂😂
Golden!
“Welcome to the hospital. I’m sorry that you’re here.” 😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
This is going to be my nursing students tomorrow on their first day hahaha
David Robinson be gentle on them.. you know for the first day, then scare them! I don’t miss doing OSCEs! Lol
Agree. I’m so glad that those days are way way behind me.
😂😂😂
Wishing them good luck!!! (hope they took a drama class in high school) lol
@@NurseBlake FR!! 😂
The worst feeling is you have to act like you are talking to someone and the person evaluating doesn't even talk to you... so you are basically talking to yourself infront of someone else... glad those days are over!!😂😂
Accurate 🤣
lmao. I felt that part of it is to have basic acting skills. And since none of us are skilled in that area, the results are atrocious 🤣
Yesss 😩🤣🤣🤣🤣
And having to answer for the PT so you are taking for two people 🙄
But why is this so hilariously accurate? 😂 I remember OB simulation, "are we supposed to pretend to see the rupture of membranes?"
Just record every nursing simulation from every school and we would make a hit comedy show! 😂😂😂
I've literally played every single one of these roles during my simulations invoking my inner actress just to pass... and I still can't believe how these instructors don't burst out laughing with all the crazy stuff that we say.
Omg I filmed the last one I did and it was so embarrassing and hilarious to watch back. Especially because my friend filmed it in the board room where my group was watching so I got to hear everyones commentary. My pt coded and and we were so awkward and slow to react. My parter began to do compressions and I was supposed to get an oxygen mask but it was in a bag with so many pieces and I had never seen that. So I whispered back to my friend I don't know how to do with this. so we had to switch.
You guys are lucky because we couldn’t record our simulations 😓
@@chachuuuuuy It was done secretly lol. We arent allowed either
Haha, so true!! Just gotta act super dramatic! lol
oh we (instructors) do..... (burst out laughing..) in the most loving way behind the controls ;0) Just kidding. I love how accurate and funny Nurse Blake's video's are.
oH mY... *fAmiLy MeMbER!*
The panicking is spot on😂😂
One time I was playing the home nurse and my professor was playing an exhausted mother with her newborn. She said, "I'm stressed with this new baby but as long as I can function enough to put on matching socks...." I look down at the professors feet and say, "ummm...your socks aren't matching." My professor looks down, pauses, and loses it. In fact, not only were her socks not matching in real life, but they were joke socks with the word "a**face" written everywhere. Best. Sim. Ever. I'm so lucky most of our sim. professors just roll with it and let us deal with the awkwardness in our own way.
My eyes were 😳👀👀 when I heard that BP 180/100.. 😂
We always get mental block in any clincal exams. 😂😂😂💔
I once asked a male role player in clincal exam if he is pregent or not 💔🙈.. my examiner was trying so hard to keep his mask face while reminding me that this is a MALE pt.😂😂😂
sara ibrahim lol
sara ibrahim 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahhaha
180/100 isn’t that bad ...give 10 mg of hydralazine and it’ll be a ok
@@coconutsciencegirl9232 are you a teli nurse? 👀
“Wait, those are expensive. Am I in an Aldi” 🤣
Pass or fail kills me 😆😂
we have sim in a couple weeks - I hope I will get thru it w/o that crazy thing where you feel like you can barely talk because your mouth is so dry! I really hate the anxiety of clinical ! I have aged 5 years! haha
When you got that boogie school and you get to use those fancy mannequins
Edit: thnx for the correction I am horrible at spelling lol
"boogey"
Bougie
I was gonna say... we only have mannequins omfg
Also when in doubt just mention hand hygiene 😂👏🏼
LOL
It seems that our machines cannot detect your vitals.
But that's ok because we did wash our hands.
It was always one person that didn’t have the stethoscope when it was time 😂😂
Yep. Always that one person in every class.😄😄
That instant fail for forgetting it was so accurate too. 😂
The moment everyone on the team doesn’t like the instructor, if they even did b4
That would be Becky the hot mess nurse from a previous Nurse Blake video.
Just graduated from nursing school a few weeks and just passed my nclex a few days ago. This video tickles me so much by the accuracy. Especially looking at the instructor for approval.
IKR. I remember one sim the instructor was on the phone being lab and dealing with another member of the team and I was trying to give meds. Since she couldn’t answer name and DOB for med verification, I looked at the camera and just blurted out “ I verified name and DOB” and then gave the meds. When we went to review our sim everybody cracked up because I had been staring straight down the camera when I did it but they all knew it was done, whether the instructor could hear me ask about it or not. Lol.
I had my first Simulation TODAY and I got assigned assessment nurse and it was terrifying. I wanted to cry. We have a simulation dummy instead of a student, our class watches through cameras in the next room, and the simulation dummy is being controlled by someone in a room behind one-way glass. I hated knowing I was being watched and judged by 20 people that I couldn’t see
Sounds like you’re a west coast student
Are you in my school we do the same thing
My school does the same lol
@@danooshs8035 That’s what I was gunna say 😂
My school is the same
Blanche Rose was so shocked when he failed😂
The patient’s history: wife has been dead for 20 years
The patient, disoriented: where is my wife?
My clinical group: *stress*
... it was our first simulation, and we all froze
In my first simulation, I’d forgotten the husband was dead and went to ask the family member where the husband was 🥴
Man nursing school was stressful. I am glad I made it through. Thanks for the video Nurse Blake. Love you. You are so adorable.
In my 2nd semester of 6 and idk if i will make it!
@@rachellegutierrez5258 TAKE A DEEP BREATHE. YOU CAN DO THIS. IT IS DOABLE. Where exactly are you struggling? I have been a nurse for 12 years and I am currently in nurse practitioner school. I would love to give you some studying tips.
@@queentinadoire6931 right now with fundamentals and pharmacology. There's so much reading and assignments, plus work for the clinical class. Trying to find time for the assigned work and studying.
@@rachellegutierrez5258 Okay. Breathe. I know it is a lot of reading/ chapters. But practice selective reading. Read the introduction and summary of the chapter first, then skim through the entire chapter and highlight the important points from your handouts/ lecture notes and make flashcards. Keep those flashcards with you at all times and read them whenever you have time here and there( for example while waiting in line at the store/ work). Also, if you work, you may want to consider cutting down your hours- I had to cut down my hours in nursing school. Also, surround yourself with positivity. Study with students who have positive attitude- negativity is draining. And lastly get a good nclex book and start practicing nclex style questions on fundamental and pharmacology. This will sharpen your critical thinking skills. Most exam questions in nursing school demand critical thinking. I hope these tips will help you.
@@queentinadoire6931
thank you! I appreciate the suggestions! Is there a particular NCLEX book i should get for fundamentals and pharmacology
The fact that he can make hilarious videos with himself being the sole actors is so wholesome. 😂 Great video!!
I hollered when he said, “A foley! Please help me a foley!!” 🤣🤣 And having the clinical instructor send me home for not having my stethoscope is the reason that I’m now the proud owner of 4 stethoscopes. 1- fanny pack, 1- car, 1- book bag, 1- a spare. 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I’m traumatized. 🤣🤣 #FutureLPN2020
OMG YOU GOT SENT HOMMEEE???? I forgot mine last week but my instructor didn't notice. Are you in the states? I feel like they are more strict with nursing students over there.
OMG! You're so prepared with all your stethoscopes! (good idea!!!) lol
Sura S Yes, I’m in the states. And from what I’m told the state that I live in (NC) has some of the strictest rules for licensing nurses 🤷🏽♀️. I just wanna be a nurse. I didn’t want to have to seek therapy for PTSD🤦🏽♀️🤣
@@BruteDragon321 the mental health aspect of nursing school is real. Im so overwhelmed right now that I feel like my brain is not committing to studying. Its really nice that you guys have RN without a bsn and with a bsc. We only have rpn and rn.
Pn2020 in the house.
Me in sim lab in a couple days 🥴 Pro Student Nurse here! 🤣🤣🤣 & 3:01 is me 24/7 🤣
"No stethoscope? See you in retakes!!" So many good memories 🤣
No stethoscope! Fail!!!! Mismatched socks! Fail!!!! One minute late! Fail!!!!! Flat tire caused you to miss clinical? Fail!!!
These are the nightmares I lived with my first 3 semesters of the program. I graduate in 3 months and still occasionally feel the stress of these emotions, even though I have somewhat been able to move past it.
Can’t wait to be done with nursing school.
It’s always handy when the patient has an extra stethoscope!
😂 A three ring circus 😂
I can't 😂😂😂 im not ready for this in my nursing program
I am so anxious about making it in nursing school. Ahh
You got this!! :-)
Don't worry, you got this! My sims are actually a ton of fun. We all understand how awkward they are and embrace it as awkward. By the end of simulation we (professors included) are usually rolling around laughing.
@@BriarandSpindle Agree. As faculty, we know the awkwardness. It is stressful to be expected to "act" when you are supposed to be learning to be nurses, not actors. We get it. Just talk about your mindset and use your team. It's about learning to use the nursing brain, not perfection. You got this!
Omg hahah so accurate “ pass or fail” 🤣🤣
Literally our first simulation last week!!! I chose to simply observe
When I was a student nurse, there was an ice storm therefore we had to spend the night in the nursing school next to the hospital....it was too dangerous to be on the roads.
We took the training manicheans out of the beds and climb in for the night. About 3 a.m. the security guard came through....I rolled over and he ....well .....we thought we were going to have to start CPR on him ! He had not been informed that the classroom had been turned into a dorm for the night.
The storm continued for 3 days, so there we were in the same uniforms ....but comfy and warm in the training beds at night.
Oh my that sounds interesting..did you have food and water?
@@shadowcastprime2100 Yes, the hospital was a block away ...so we had the benefit of the cafeteria and the hospital administration was glad to give us meals since we were covering for the staff that could not get in to work because of the storm.
@@ithacacomments4811 woah silly but awesome clinical experiences.. I'm glad were going back to clinical even if it's 4 hrs...
omg this was my group during our practice clinical simulations our lecturer would just leave us to act out and tell us he would interregate us with questions and randomly ask the rest of the group questions or statements
I have simulation on Monday and this is giving me anxiety already.
You got this!!!
Do new grad interviews after graduating .... 😆
Haha I feel this on a deeply spiritual level. The only difference is our sims are done with mannequins and it's not pass or fail. It's just mandatory that you be there and participate.
We have a doll and it’s all fancy, you can take a manual bp and pulse on it, but we have one of the educators watching us through two way glass, yelling at us pretending to be the patient haha
Love your videos. Always so funny and true. I work in a hospital as an RT. Also a new youtuber. Your channels the best.
Thanks!!! My dad is an RT!
Can you do a video on med math?? Like I still mess up the math haha
i used to love clinical simulations... acting was fun
Um we have mannequins.... I wish this was how our sim went lol we go in a room and they watch us through a one way window
"Can I start acting?" Lol
Oh yeah this is spot on....the bad acting, the chord, etc...lol!
Lmbo! Just like class....hahaha.
Starting clinicals in March and I’m on the ortho floor. Super nervous about the pass or fail portion 😭😭
You’re going to have a great clinical.
Oh my God the patient cracked me up
“I have a stethoscope
LMAO nursing school was stressful. During simulation everyone was guilty of vocalizing every single movement "okay, I am about to wash my hands now"😂😂. Please Subscribe to my channel for more helpful nursing videos and to see my nursing journey !
As an instructor.. I approve this video! 🤣🤣
As a retired instructor, so do I!
Please please please keep the videos coming. I look forward to them and they really make my day. You’re hilarious. 😆😆😆
1:43 Blanch Rose 😂😂
As a nursing student during COVID-19, we were supposed to be in clinicals 3 months ago, but it got canceled thanks to the virus. Now, all our clinicals and sims are on virtual websites. Do I enjoy the virtual websites? HELL yes, but am I jealous of students in ACTUAL clinicals? Obviously....... so sad
This wig is so itchy..
Hahaha. Gosh Blake I love your personality. Pls work with me. Your fan from Canada.
OMG so accurate. "I'm providing for privacy" (pretending to pull curtain)
So accurate. i got told by one of my clinical instructors I did my patient assessment exactly the way he would, but that I missed a lot only because I wasn't telling him everything I was doing overtly for him. lol
// The stress of nursing school simulation is real!! Oh God! 😆😂 this video was funny
I fell so bad, I just fell like I can't do this, like this is not for me I failed in my simulation so bad when I was putting the foley, and + that my grades are not that good. What can I do? Because I want to help people not to kill them.
Non nursing student will think this is so unrealistic but little do they know. That shit was a mess and felt so pointless, it's a wonder how we actually learn shit in nursing school. Everything was nerve racking with the whole pass or fail. And if you fail twice they kick you out of the program.. like WTF.
180/100 😂😂😂
So?
Nurse Blake do a video about nurses during shift report! Especially giving a shift reports and updates! Would love to see one 😂
I just had clinical sim yesterday, it was the most awkward thing ever
Haha I worked as a standardized patient for a side job! It was super fun, but really hard trying to keep a straight face.
“I’m sorry that you’re hear” is so accurate
Good morning 🌅☀️🌞
I love Nurse 👨⚕️ Blake!
Another great video. Thanks for the laughs! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much for watching!!!!
😂😂😂😂 Retired nurse here! Love you Blake!
PT: Blanche a/k/a Rose rocks!
When the RN forgets the stethoscope- signals Presceptor - “Catheter” 😂
😂😂😂 Gaspar ..catheter!
Karen D: Yes!! Indeed 😂 Exactly
yes, simulations were very stressful, and never fun like your videos!!
I wish we had the recording for our sims. I’ve said some pretty funny stuff. Most recently, “she ain’t dead yet!” and the “family member” in the room started freaking out. Glad I only have one more of these left before graduation.
So truuuueeee hhhhhhhhhhhhh 😭😭😭😂
Flatlined🤣🤣🤣🤣
The accuracy is so REAL..I FREAKING LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!!!
LMAO the family member is the most awkward role to be and some people are NOT on your side when they have that role. They ask all the accusatory questions like fam we in this together come on
I don’t get how people seriously dislike his vids lol it’s hilarious
🤣 what in the hell am I watching? 🤣🤣
I am so happy we have an incredible sim lab with mannequins lol
THE ALDI VS WHOLE FOODS HAD ME CRYING 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 the accuracy is REAL lol 💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All they have to do is put a foley haha
Please keep making videos for like the rest of your life!! You’re awesome 👏🏽!! 😂😂🥰
Wow I had my skills and written test the day this was uploaded 😂
LOL!
Guys I need some advice plssss.....I'm a first year nursing student and I'll be having my 3rd simulation this week. I played the nurse role last time and I did so bad, my dummy kept screaming and I wasn't sure what to do, I feel so bad at the end of the day, and I'm fairly socially awkward too so that doesn't really help for bed side manner, and I feel that all the students think I'm awful......any advice on how to overcome this guys? :(
I had to be a teen with MDD on suicidal and elopement precautions for my first one. That was fun.
this is so relatable it hurts
LOL "We're gonna put a Foley on you!"
So in patho we had a role playing exercise where classmates were supposed to guess the diagnosis after watching an examination,me as the provider was supposed to do assessment and break the news to the patient that they had a condition BUT without saying the name of the condition so the class could guess first. Whelp…. I got all caught up in the moment and f’d up and ended up saying the diagnosis at the end by accident😮🤦🏽♀️. The professor was pissed and I was like wtf… how did I just f that up. 😂
Literally got my simulated clinical group today.....the timing
Look at the sterile glove the wrong way, and….BAM, FAIL RETAKE , take .25 seconds to answer a question and BAM Retake lol, getting flashbacks y’all…but it was all worth it in the end 💕
I’m going to get exposure therapy for my phobia of public speaking. Luckily my nursing program doesn’t start until Jan 2023.
Not the vitals (Only BP 🤣 taken) being 180/100. That’s a failed situation in real life 🙄🤦🏾♀️. So accurate!
Haha favorite was the patient, with stethoscope and all, but quite in character otherwise.180/100 BP 😬😬 ... looks like someone got their exam answers from Quizlet .
Lmaooooo loved this! My personal favorite during our OB sim was MASSAGING THE FUNDUS!!!
This just popped up, I started not to click, so glad I did! I am cracking up at Nurse Blake!😂
Hilarious dude!!😂😂😂😂😂
You are so hilarious!
I always loved getting family member! Lol
I had to do my final simulation a few weeks ago. We only get to use the simulation dummy in the last semester since it’s so expensive. They don’t want people destroying it when they’re just learning. Never dawned on me to check the pupils 😂😂 especially since the patient was hypoxic. I had other priorities. Lungs and oxygen being my first since patient had a possibility of pneumonia and we were waiting for “x-ray results”. Want to hear something even funnier? My dummy had the crackles in the lower left lobe and the right lower lobe was clear. However… when they gave me the x-ray results, the lower right lobe had the consolidation showing pneumonia 😂😂 they set the crackles in the wrong lobe 😂. Needless to say, it boded in my favor.
I'm so nervous for simulations!! But I will do my best not to forget stethoscope thank you Blake. (Currently LV3)
"I'm sorry that you're here" NSJDJD IM DEAD
I would love to have you as my nurse. I watched all your little skits and I think they’re fantastic
I had to be the lead nurse during sim every.damn.time. My thought during each sim was "I signed up for nursing school, not theater classes." Now that I think of it, that's probably why the instructors kept assigning me to be the lead nurse. They probably got a big kick out of my horrendous acting skills. Towards the end I couldn't even hide my frustration anymore. So glad that part is over!
You are amazing...! 😅❤🌟
