I understand that Tesla is breaking ground with the technology it's developing with Teslavision. However, as a consumer, I don't like that my 2023 RWD struggles to help me park. I'm coming from a 2012 335 and that car, though 12 years old, had 360 camera views that effectively helped me park. I never hit a curb having a 360 camera view but yet, I hear about wheel rash on much more modern Teslas because the parking system is not great. Instead of reinventing the wheel and pushing out blobs before the new wheel is invented, Tesla could easily place cameras in the front bumper and below the mirrors to give us proper 360 camera views. At least in the mean time. I mean does anyone really prefer blobs, parenthesis, or models jittering around instead of a live camera feed? Take the coolness aside and think practical, when it comes to assisting you to park, the optimal solution already exists but Tesla refuses to provide it because of a bigger picture goal. If Elon were my personal freind, or I was a Tesla employee,(maybe even of I owned a lot of stock), I would say yeah, Tesla vision is the future, lets all tolerate the now for the greatness that is coming later. But I don't really care about what's coming 5-10 years from now, I'm trying to park my car that I paid for with today's money. I love my new car BTW, but I can also be objective. Rant over 😊

of course they could add additional cameras and bring back the senors but I guess they wont since their main goal is to save money.

what you are seeing is the raw output of occupancy network. it looks less refined but it is far more accurate to where things are in relation to the car. this is more important for fsd or seeing lines/curbs on the ground for parking

Getting rid of ultrasonic sensors was a mistake, imo. Cameras can't see if they are blocked in snow, ice, fog, heaving rain, especially at night. Might be better if instead of 'blobs' you actually see a live feed on the display, especially when parking in forward movement.

    Interesting to be sure.
I have a ‘21 M3 SR+, so it has the sensors and radar.
I’ve always figured the cameras are an integral part of what’s shown on the screen. The radar and the sensors don’t “see” trash cans or cones or vehicle types or pedestrians - all of which have always shown up on my screen, driving or parking. Those details must come from the cameras.
Also, as you have a ‘19, do you know if the radar is still functioning in those Teslas which were equipped with that hardware? Or did Tesla “disable” radar with an OTA update?
Great video! Thanks for showing us the blobs/sonograms!

The “blobs” visualization is fine. I’m not sure what people expect to see, it’s not like they are going to make icons and sprites for every object in a garage. The switch to remove USS before vision was on par is total crap. I was considering trading my 2021 MY LR for a performance but this alone holds me back. It’s fine if they think it can eventually reach parity but you can’t rip out the sensors prematurely just to claim a cost reduction to bump the stock price for a quarter. Sigh

I hate the blobs. I did like when it was more refined. When driving into a parking spot my model Y will tell me to stop. But when I look in front of the car. I’m about 24 inches from the curb and the butt is close to the end of the white lines. I hate leaving my car sticking out that much.

My understanding for the reason for the lack of a true birdseye (360 view) is that the feature is patented. I believe Nissan owns it. Tesla is loath to pay licensing fees when they have so many of the best engineers. So they implemented birdseye as an animation, but still needs refinement. Also needs a camera on front bumper.

Cars with HW v4 have cameras only, but the cameras are 4K, whereas HW v3 has 1080 cameras and sensors. For the cameras only, the system is using real time video analytics to analyze each frame and run it through a machine learning trained model to make decisions. Tesla is pushing this envelop far more than anyone else in the analytics industry (my small company is doing the same analytics but for security cameras). My personal feeling is they shouldn't have dropped the sensors (LiDar iirc), but I understand the reasoning to drop them. Chip shortages are a real issue for the EV industry, and removing the sensors solved the shortage issue they were having in 2021-2022 (6+months delayed deliveries). Yes, the models need improvements (blobs), but this is all software. Training models in my industry takes months for a new analytics model (we have early smoke detection, loitering detection, PPE detection for construction sites, etc), and these are working with static cameras (security cameras mounted to fixed locations). Having a model that works with moving cameras is extremely difficult (we tried to train a drone camera feed - being a small outfit it was estimated to take ~2 years given the compute resources we have available to us).

In other words, the product is not ready for use by the public. Once the shortages eased, they should have resumed production of vehicles with the appropriate sensors that provide the experience the customer expects nowadays, while simultaneously continuing to collect the data from all of the cars' cameras, further developing the Tesla Vision models (possibly even using the lidar sensors to help refine the accuracy of the visual-based system), and only switching exclusively to cameras only once the system was really sorted out. Instead, we have this approach, which damages Tesla's reputation with the mainstream, who are not willing to be used as beta testers, and actually holds Tesla back from quicker development to stay ahead of competitors and move the game ahead even more. Sorry for the rant, it just frustrates me.

Tesla vision doesnt work properly. It is totally useless.
Try this: park your car, leave the car, put a large barrel type of stuff front and rear of the car. go back the car and start it. it needs to move to see the obstacles. what if it is too late?
11:29 that's not wierd. that is tesla vision's normal.
it is almost impossible to parallel park the car to a narrow spaces.
By the way why everyhing -blobs- around vibrates? are they moving ? is it an earthquake ? :)

My current car has 360° camera view, and depending upon the relative colours and ambient lighting, it's difficult to assess my cars positioning when parking, and my USS system can't detect curbs at all.
Tesla's new system clearly outlines the nearby objects that matter which is all I need to know about, and seems capable of doing so in the dark, whereas my current car's camera system is essentially blind.
More detailed graphics would be nice, but IMO don't really add functionality.

Tesla removed the ultrasonic sensors to save cost and to keep production up. That is all it was.
Most Tesla fans refuse to acknowledge that Tesla would do something like this.
These decisions were made during the covid 19 supply chain crisis. Tesla did not want to stop manufacturing cars when parts became unavailable, so they simply removed radar and ultrasonic sensors in order to keep production up.
They then tried to place all the functions of radar and ultrasonic sensors on the vision system. It has been catastrophic ever since.
