    CHALLENGE ACCCEPTED!
    While watching your video I thought to myself, surely there must be a way to achieve more track length. So I started a small test setup and checked what is possible.
    In fact, with a small change to your design, I managed to achieve a total length of 17,288 meters. Surely not much, but still 52m more than your previous record.
    For this I replaced the big flat curves of the helix with a short straight, a small curve and again a short straight.
    Perhaps by small changes in the upper and/or lower range of the roller coaster again 2-3 meters can be brought out. However, I have not yet tried this at the current stage.

    I feel like "longest 10x10 coaster with excitement above 4 and intensity lower than 10" would be quite an interesting challenge, given how complex the intensity and excitement calculations can get. There would probably not be a decent way to approach that theoretically, though, so it'd be more art than science, in a way.

      Except that coaster type is forgiving enough that you can have a stat penalty for lateral G's for example and still be under 10 intensity. Requiring it to be under 10 intensity and requiring it to have "no red numbers" are therefore completely different requirements. I don't think requiring it to have no red numbers at all would be that good of a requirement, as you just wouldn't be able to make something anywhere near as long.

    • @Pystro
      @Pystro 2 роки тому +4

      In the 6x6 helix tower, instead of the level 90° curves of size 3x3, couldn't you use the same level 90° curves as in the 4x4 helix tower? Argh, no!!! My idea was that it'd give you single-tile gaps where you can put brakes. But those track pieces are banked, so no brakes, right?
      This trick would only add little a bit of length. Which would help with the record, but not the g-forces.
      I guess any coaster with no lateral g penalty will have to switch more often between the helixes and the lift tracks. Any continuous run on the 4x4 helix will just kill you - at 4.07g almost literally.
      You could start ascending 1 section on 10x10, 1 down on 6x6, 3 up on 8x8, 1 down on 4x4, 3 up on 10x10, 1 down on 6x6, ... (alternating between 3 up and 1 down).
      And on the way down you alternate between 3 down and 1 up, ending with ...1 up on 8x8, 3 down on 6x6, 1 up on 10x10, 2 down on 4x4. Note that the sections don't have to be the same fraction of the 42 levels, so that you could optimize their heights for minimum g-forces.
      If you can get away with sections that are 1/5th of the coaster height, the only parts that need to go between the parts of the ascending and descending sequences that I've explicitly written would be: "... ascending 1 on the 8x8, descending 2 on the 4x4,...". This would mean that you never descend more than 2 sections on the 4x4 and only descend 3 sections on the 6x6 helix.

    What's the theoretical maximum for 10x10? Like what's the full possible (height / 3m) * (length/trackpiece) * 100?

    • @MarcelVos
      @MarcelVos  2 роки тому +31

      That's a very good question! A single straight track piece is 4.26 meters long and you can stack 42 of them. 100 tiles * 42 high * 4.26 = 17,892 meters, which is only barely higher than what I had.
      The dense helix towers and bumpy tracks are denser than this theoretical calculation, the max is a bit longer than the answer we just got.

    • @Graknorke
      @Graknorke 2 роки тому +1

      I think that's a difficult question to answer without some in-depth knowledge of clearances and stuff, since if you're talking purely abstractly, you can draw a line of any arbitrarily large line inside any volume, the thing that would limit it is how close the track can be to itself. The (in my opinion) intuitive answer would be to try and treat it like a block system where the maximum would be traversing every "block" once, so the support limit times the number of tiles. But that obviously doesn't work, since 128m * 100 is 12.8km, less than some of the coasters in the video.

    • @tifforo1
      @tifforo1 2 роки тому

      The answer depends on how the game decides whether you've met the 3 meter clearance requirement. I don't believe it is necessary that the upper layer of the stacked coaster is 3 meters away from the layer below when measuring the distance at any angle (such as perpendicular to a sloped piece), only that the VERTICAL distance is 3 meters.
      Basically, not counting the parts where each "floor" of the skyscraper coaster connects to the next floor, the total length is the length of track on each floor, times the number of floors. The number of floors is basically just the support limit divided by 3, with a slight reduction if there is height variation within each floor. But how long the track on each floor can be is a bit more complicated.

    • @tifforo1
      @tifforo1 2 роки тому

      Hey Marcel, is there any way to get the horizontal clearance between two track pieces at the same height down to less than 4.26 meters? Or is the fact that the tiles are that far apart and you can only have one piece per tile a hard restriction on getting that down? Can the curved pieces overlap into the same tile in a way that allows more than one parallel track per 4.26 meters?

    Loved this video! I know very little about the fan community of rct2 and what's done in it, so love these little windows into both that & pushing the elements in the game to their most brutally efficient use to get xyz result, whatever "xyz" may be.

    RCT is a Legendary game, I grew up playing it. Seeing the stats of the coaster after you spend your time creating it is so very satisfying. Seeing the riders get sick is even better.

    Is it weird that I can almost imagine the ultimate 10x10 length coaster as an actual attraction? It's a ~30 minute ride, which would be just long enough for a short but narratively complete movie that maybe you should show during the ride, timing the first and second climaxes of the movie with the descent helices?
