Let me know what you thought about this easy watercolor foggy forest for beginners tutorial (aka me learning from my own mistakes).

I loved that you shared this tutorial of "mistakes." First of all, the finished product was awesome. Second, I have a stack of failed attempts that I never completed, because I didn't have the bravery or insight to try to save them. Your brilliant save of this painting gives me a push to keep trying on those incomplete projects.
A question: When you film a tutorial, are you doing so first-time, or have you done a similar painting before as practice? If the answer is first-time, then I am even further in awe of your abilities.
Keep doing what you are doing!

Julia, I find you charmingly human. I know that sense of panic when it doesn’r seem to be working out. I love your result btw. Thank you for sharing. I learned some new approaches from you. I’m 81. Nice to know I'm not too old to learn new tricks.

I love your misty painting and wanted to say don’t be so hard on yourself. It is the nature of watercolor to have a mind of it’s own. The surprises is why we we love it.

I love that bit of the "mistake ". You didn't make a big deal and fixed it with out editing that part out making it seem that you are perfect and can do no wrong . It helps us beginners that have anxiety with starting and making mistakes. Great, great video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Nothing wrong with making mistakes! It's not like your life depends on the success of your painting ;)

Speaking as a beginner I love watching a professional painter make mistakes and then fix it with an explanation. I think that’s just as important in the learning process. It also gives me the incentive to not give up knowing that experienced painters don’t always get the results they want the first time. 😊. Thanks for sharing that Julia! 👍. Love your “moody” paintings.

“A girl can hope” 😂. Love that. I’m not sure what you did that was so wrong except maybe went too dark too soon? Thanks for this though. You’re correct, we must persevere with a painting, but accept that we still may not like it, BUT someone will. I’ve posted many paintings I’ve done on IG that I absolutely did not like, but someone did. It’s quite funny when it happens. Blessings to you!

I'm new to your channel and I'm so glad that you showed your frustration while trying to paint this picture, it is refreshing to know that even a seasoned pro like yourself still makes mistakes and isn't afraid to show them to the world!...you really don't see many artists talk about their mistakes !..Big 👍 to you!....keep up the good work!....I learned alot from this video !....

Good work on rescuing this painting! Thank you for showing this and letting all of us beginners that all is not lost if you make a mistake. I think it turned out great! Heck, I thought it looked good at the 18:30 mark. The brownish color made it look like a cliff. IMO you could have stopped there.

Have to agree with the others that its very nice to see that its not all simple and stright forward every time. That makes this the best and most important step by step video I've ever seen, so thank you so much! The painting turned out amazing as well.. thumbs up🙏👍

I have some Kuretake water-soluble graphite pans in muted tones that would be perfect for this. Have wanted to use them for a while but never seemed to find a project that they'd be right for. Think this is it. I've learned so much from you in the short time I've found your channel. Thank you 🙏🏻 Now if I can just find the time to quiet my mind to get on with it. Your work is beautiful!

100% cotton watercolor paper holds moisture much better than regular watercolor paper. As a result, it dries slower, allowing you do apply details without causing cauliflowering, but also allows color to spread out evenly for a perfect gradient.
